Yeah, I don’t know where he’s going with this.

In part of his interview with the Associated Press, Trump says Democrats have only themselves to blame for the hacks that led to WikiLeaks revealing all their deep, dirty secrets to the world, ahead of the 2016 election.

According to Trump, the Democratic National Committee didn’t have the “proper defensive devices” in place to stave off hacking attempts.

Seriously, I don’t know if Hillary was using McAfee or Norton on her server at home, but…

As for WikiLeaks and Trump’s declaration of love for them on the campaign trail (which he now says wasn’t an indication of his support):

On Friday, Trump took aim at the DNC when asked about Wikileaks’ involvement in the influence campaign, arguing that the DNC did not have the same defenses as the Republican National Committee, which was also unsuccessfully targeted by Russia.

“You know, they tried to hack the Republican, the RNC, but we had good defenses. They didn’t have defenses, which is pretty bad management,” Trump said, referring to the DNC. “But we had good defenses, they tried to hack both of them. They weren’t able to get through to Republicans.”

Actually, I remember very well that Julian Assange… aka… WikiLeaks (because nobody believes there is anyone but him behind the organization), stated that they had hacked the RNC, but that the things they had on Trump were no worse than what he said openly, anyway, so they weren’t worth releasing.

Whether that’s true or not, I can’t say. FBI Director James Comey, however, has said that while there was evidence of past RNC hacks, there was no evidence of recent hacking attempts.

Further in the interview, Trump sought to put to rest any controversy over his support for a site that routinely targets America, but curiously, tends to leave other nations like Russia and Iran alone.

Trump praised WikiLeaks on the campaign trail last year after the organization had published hacked emails from the DNC and Podesta,saying “I love WikiLeaks,” at a rally in Pennsylvania.

Trump told the AP that he was directing attention to the information released, not supporting the organization for leaking it.

“When Wikileaks came out … never heard of Wikileaks, never heard of it. When Wikileaks came out, all I was just saying is, ‘Well, look at all this information here, this is pretty good stuff,’” he said.

“No, I don’t support or unsupport. It was just information,” Trump said when pressed.

This becomes an issue, now that CIA Director Mike Pompeo has blasted WikiLeaks as a “non-state hostile intelligence service” and Attorney General Jeff Sessions has called arresting Assange a “priority.”

The Justice Department inquiry dates back as far as 2010, when WikiLeaks released classified documents stolen by former Army soldier Chelsea Manning.

Trump told the AP that he is not involved in making a decision about pursuing Assange’s arrest.

“I am not involved in that decision, but if Jeff Sessions wants to do it, it’s OK with me,” he said. “I didn’t know about that decision, but if they want to do it, it’s OK with me.”

I told you guys last week about WikiLeaks sniping back at Trump over this particular comment.

Given this new, negative focus on WikiLeaks and Assange, I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that there were a new rash of hacking attempts against the RNC.

I hope they have a good firewall set up.
