For a surrogate of Trump to refer to anybody as “stupid” is a stunning display of gall.
That, however, is exactly what former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani did Monday night, while discussing the disastrous debate between Trump and Hillary Clinton.
Hillary Clinton’s decision to stand by her husband and attack former White House intern Monica Lewinsky when news of a sexual relationship between the two broke in 1998 prove that the former secretary of state is “too stupid to be president,” Rudy Giuliani said Monday night.
Giuliani’s first mistake is operating under the assumption that the marriage of Bill and Hillary Clinton is anything other than a union formed for political expediency.
Ok. I’m guessing, myself, but I and others have speculated about the notion of the Clinton marriage being one of convenience, in which case, what Bill does is likely only upsetting to Hillary when it threatens her political aspirations.
Her goals have always been firmly attached to her husband’s coattails. The ensuing drama around the Lewinsky case put them both in a bad light.
No, Mayor. If her reason for standing by her man is based in her ambitions, then she’s not stupid, at all.
Ruthless and disingenuous, perhaps, but she knows enough to know she’d never get anywhere on her own. She needed to be Mrs. Clinton.
“I sure would’ve talked about what she did to Monica Lewinsky, what that woman standing there did to Monica Lewinsky, trying to paint her as an insane young woman when in fact Monica Lewinsky was an intern,” Giuliani said. “The president of the United States, her husband, disgraced this country with what he did in the Oval Office and she didn’t just stand by him, she attacked Monica Lewinsky. And after being married to Bill Clinton for 20 years, if you didn’t know the moment Monica Lewinsky said that Bill Clinton violated her that she was telling the truth, then you’re too stupid to be president.”
Giuliani does bring up a valid point.
Hillary is painting herself as the defender of women. The catch is, if that woman is one of her husband’s paramours, all bets are off.
I honestly have no sympathy for Lewinsky, Gennifer Flowers, or any of Bill Clinton’s admitted lovers. They knew the man was married. They likely knew what a harridan Hillary could be. If they proceeded with the affair, knowing all of that, then they apparently felt the risk was worth it.
At some point, Trump will crack and bring up his pal, Bill’s affairs. He can’t help himself. Hillary will then, in turn, get to play the victimized, but stoic wife.
It’s a scenario with very low likelihood of victory for Trump.
Hillary has been playing this game for too long, so she knows the angles.
In the meantime, Trump may want to put a leash on some of his surrogates. He doesn’t need any help on his road to failure. He does fine on his own.
