The conflict within the Trump campaign is even striking surrogates, at this point.

Former New York Mayor, Rudy Giuliani has taken issue with the word “intervention,” as it pertains to the efforts of insiders to reign in Trump and his break-neck race to the bottom.

Giuliani has been a loyal supporter of Trump’s from early in his candidacy. When news broke on Wednesday that Team Trump was in disarray, party officials were looking for an exit off of the Trump train, and that several of those close to Trump, as well as RNC chairman Reince Priebus were planning the aforementioned “intervention,” Giuliani was named as one of those who might be a part of the intervention team.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich was named by Giuliani as the source of the intervention rumors. On Thursday, Giuliani nixed those talks.

“That word, I think, honestly I love him dearly, but I think that word was used by Newt in a memo that got around,” Giuliani said. ” What a ridiculous word. An intervention is for a drug addict and it’s for someone who’s an alcoholic and I’ve had to do them with people at times. There’s nothing wrong with them, if that’s the case. Donald Trump doesn’t drink or smoke, by the way. We don’t have that problem.”

Ok. That very literal way of thinking doesn’t address the issue of Trump’s increasingly unhinged and destructive behavior.

Is it due to drugs or alcohol? I don’t think anyone, including Gingrich was suggesting that.

Perhaps someone could hand the mayor a dictionary?

For his part, Gingrich is now saying that no intervention is forthcoming, so we can all sit back and watch the world burn, one disastrous Trump tweet, rally, or interview at a time.
