If Joe Biden Is Right, Then We Are So Screwed

Right now field of potential Democrat candidates is crowded, there are perhaps a dozen or so politicians making noises about running. Now one man has said he is the only guy qualified for the job:

“I think I’m the most qualified person in the country to be president. The issues that we face as a country today are the issues that I’ve worked on my whole life — the plight of the middle class and foreign policy,” Biden told an audience in Montana, according to The Missoula Current. “But my family and I need to decide as a unit whether we’re ready — we do everything as a family.”

Biden was asked about factors that may hurt him if he runs — his reputation for gaffes among them.

“I may be a gaffe machine, but my God, what a wonderful thing compared to a guy who can’t tell the truth,” he said. “No one doubts what I say, the problem is I sometimes say all that I mean. The question is what kind of nation are we becoming?”

This isn’t the first time Biden has run for president. He was a member of the 1988 Democratic primary field referred to as the Seven Dwarfs (when Gary Hart was forced to drop out of the race over having a mistress, one of the survivors said “We’d lost Horny”)

I don’t know that Biden is all that strong of a candidate. I don’t even think he’s the most qualified. Time in the US Senate is hardly a qualification for much of anything than a well-paid seat on a board of directors. Time as vice president is equally unimpressive, particularly when the vice president is on the periphery of government…I don’t think anyone but Biden ever saw Biden as being a key member of the Obama administration.

Who knows who the Democrat nominee will be. Hillary Clinton is probably going to give it another shot. Bernie Sanders liked the attention. The field is so wide open that CNN’s Jeff Zucker and Bashar Assad’s apologist Tulsi Gabbard are visiting Iowa. Joe Biden will probably give it a go. And he may win it…I mean, who in 2014 thought Donald Trump would be the nominee? But if he’s the best we have, we are really screwed.
