Colin Powell Suffers Battered Wife Syndrome After Dealing With The Clinton Campaign

No sane person has doubted that retired general and former secretary of state Colin Powell is a Democrat for years. His shameful sniping during the last Bush administration and endorsing Barack Obama twice enabled him to use his status as the media’s favorite Republican to bash a Republican president and Republican candidates. Now the degree to which Powell is willing to act as a Democrat operative, coordinating with Hillary Clinton’s campaign, is on display for all to see.

It seems that Powell’s email account has been hacked and about 30,000 Powell emails from 2014 until early August of this year are in possession of the FSB-linked website DCLeaks. The media interest today is in the email in which Powell calls Trump a “national disgrace” (he’s right) but the interesting ones cover Hillary Clinton’s email scandal.

Clinton’s campaign and her surrogates have cited Powell’s use of a personal AOL account to downplay the former first lady’s email practices. But one major difference was that Powell did not host a private email server in his home, as Clinton did. He also used the State Department’s classified messaging system to send and receive classified information. Clinton was granted an account on that system but opted not to use it.

The federal government had also adopted stronger rules regarding the use of personal email accounts for work-related business.

The hacked emails show that Powell warned Mills, who had served as Clinton’s chief of staff, about continuing to link him to the scandal.

“You really don’t want to get me into this,” he wrote in a March 7, 2015 email. “I haven’t been asked nor said a word about HRC and won’t unless you all start it.”

Mills replied saying “agree and that message has been clearly shared.”

“so she will not nor will anyone she controls,” Mills continued, adding that “I can’t address folks who are beyond that so please ping or call me when you see anything that worries you.”

On March 17, Powell emailed Mills to flag comments from Clinton adviser James Carville.

“James is out there screaming away about me and Jeb doing the same thing and getting away with it. Not only is he factually wrong it ain’t working He is just throwing more logs on her fire. Not knowing if anybody is controlling him (unlikely) I don’t think it helps you all,” Powell wrote.

“Got it – not sure he will listen to me (he hasn’t in the past) buy I will reach out to him tomorrow when I land back in DC,” Mills replied.

And there is this gem:

“Spent last week with Cheryl Mills and the HRC team burying the email flap,” Powell wrote on Aug. 28.

“Sad thing it that HRC could have killed this two years ago by merely telling everyone honestly what she had done and not tie me into it. I told her staff three times not to try that gambit. I had to throw a mini tantrum at a Hampton’s party to get their attention. She keeps tripping into these ‘character’ minefields.”

What is noticeable is that for over a year Powell was telling the Clinton campaign that he wouldn’t speak on her abuse of federal laws about safeguarding highly classified information if she would leave him out of the fight. And even as the Clinton campaign relentlessly used him as the model for Hillary’s email use he continued to tell them privately that he would not talk about the subject if they left him out. Yet as late a last week the Clinton campaign was still using him as cover.

Powell apparently has some knowledge of this subject that goes beyond the nature of advice he may or may not have given her. His knowledge seems to be significant enough that he tries to trade his personal omerta for the campaign’s agreement to leave him out of the fray. He makes this offer repeatedly. And, in a truly Clintonian way, the campaign lied to him time and again. In the process they sidelined his criticism while pushing their story. And now he’s basically telling associates that he will endorse Hillary Clinton closer to the election.

Poor, deluded old Colin Powell behaved just like a battered wife who keeps going back for more because she knows he really loves her and he did promise not to hit her again.
