Give Obama Credit

Yesterday we did a brief commentary on the rather extraordinary swan song of Christina Romer, the recently resigned chairman of Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers, in which she admitted to not only not having the answers but to not fully comprehending the questions.

Today, there is some moderate pushback from the administration trying to counter the air of bovine incomprehension that is beginning to adhere to this administration the way lint welds itself to Velcro.

The Washington Post runs a front page called New Tax Breaks For Business on the Table. The story itself is pretty much a nothingburger in which we discover that “on the table” means “ain’t no way they’re going to happen.” Not a huge surprise coming from an administration that casts letting you keep more of the money you earn as a “cost” to the government.

The article does carry an interesting factoid. The administration believes Obama is not being given sufficient credit for the emphasis he’s placing on the economy.

Last November, Obama announced that he would turn his attention to unemployment, calling it “one of the great challenges that remains in our economy.” He declared the same intent two months later, telling House Democrats he would focus relentlessly on job creation “over the next several months.” Senior aides went on television pledging that the mantra would become “jobs, jobs, jobs.”

But other matters – health care, the BP oil spill – continually stole the limelight, creating the impression, some Democrats complain, that the president was barely focused on the economy at all.

His advisers described his attentiveness – noting, for example, that he discussed the economy with New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg (I) for 15 minutes before golfing – but got little traction.

“Obviously it’s going to be hard to get anything done before the election, but it’s really important for him to try, and to make the case to the American people that he’s trying to do something and the Republicans aren’t letting him,” said Steve Elmendorf, a Democratic strategist. “We are at the final moments here.”

I DID NOT MAKE THAT UP.

So I’m trying to rectify that problem. It the president talked to Mayor Bloomberg about the economy for fifteen minutes before golfing then let me be among the first on my side to give him credit for it.

“the Republicans aren’t letting him,” — Johnny won’t let me play with the toy car…

“noting, for example, that he discussed the economy with New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg (I) for 15 minutes before golfing” — It’s recess time so let’s do this quick so we can go play.

As for the rest, I really think they don’t comprehend even the barest of concepts of economics. I’m nowhere near cognizant on the subject but everything they’re doing is only going to give rise to a black market economy.

. . .from a Leftist perspective pointing out that Obama is not actually an African American by the accepted use of the term, but is actually an Arab American. (Which may be at best theory, I know.)

I’ve assumed for months that the onset of his endgame will be when the Left desperately and pathetically tries to resurrect the “First Black President” meme for later use. And it may well be underway. We’ve got to remember that for all the histrionics, Obama is a tool of the Democratic Party and their money machine, not the other way around. And they will abandon him when he is of no further use, with a degree of prejudice commensurate to his perceived liability.

I mean, I talked to my wife about the economy for 15 minutes last night before watching a movie, so I guess I’m qualified to lead the nation.

Standard-bearer for grouchy curmudgeonry since, oh, 1975 or so.

If your wife will vouch that at least 1/3 of that time was coherent talking,

I’d be willing to support having you replace any of his current economic advisers. Any amount of positive Clue beats negative Clue in my book.

Laser Light focus on Jobs?

wolfster38 (Diary) Friday, September 3rd at 11:27AM EST (link)

Laser Light focus on Jobs is what Obama said at the State of the Union address. And he hasn’t lifted a finger. He is so busy planning and taking his vacations there no time for work. How hard a life he must have.

“A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.”
The Declaration of Independence

I just hope that he didn’t miss his tee time.

What a GUY!

“Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.” – C. S. Lewis

as the tee time waits for you, not the other way around. Remember, our Dear Leader had LA traffic tied up for hours to attend a Hollywood fund raiser. I even heard it said that that while he was at that fund raiser he talked about the economy for 30 seconds when he was informed how small the collections were. Of course it was series of four letter words on those ungrateful Hollywood ingrates.

These folks truly live in another dimension. Small business is ready to burn down the Whitehouse and has been for over a year.

I saw Obama give his little talk this morning, flanked by Romer, Solis and Geithner.

What a sorry, clueless roll call . . .

I am giving him credit in November

Marcus_Traianus (Diary) Friday, September 3rd at 11:51AM EST (link)

it’s just not the attribution I think he is looking for.

Even publications like the WSJ are trying to will things in the right direction by highlighting the positives. Exempli gratia today’s unemployment news was headlined with “Private Sector adds 67,000 Jobs”. At least they get it. This economic situation is bad for everyone and we all need to do our part- even if it’s cheerleading.

The problem with Obama is his fundamental economic policies, invoked as a reflexive reaction to personal ideology, don’t give him anywhere to go. The country is broke and in a few months they are going to unleash a tax tsunami to try and close the gap. So we get comments such as the one you mentioned with Mayor Turd-crumb.

Obama is just biding time until the November elections come. Then watch what happens before a new Congress is seated or has time to act.

Democrats won’t be happy until the people surround DC like Frankenstein’s Castle- with pitchfork and torches in hand.

“Both of our political parties, at least the honest portion of them, agree conscientiously in the same object—the public good; but they differ essentially in what they deem the means of promoting that good. One side believes it best done by one composition of the governing powers; the other, by a different one. One fears most the ignorance of the people; the other, the selfishness of rulers independent of them. Which is right, time and experience will prove.”.Thomas Jefferson

Economy got its 15 minutes of fame. What's next?

tngal (Diary) Friday, September 3rd at 12:04PM EST (link)

22 minutes with Buffett on the deficit? The man is completely devoid of the responsibilities that came with the job. He’s treating his term as if he were president of a company not a nation. But even presiden’s of companies know the more problems there are the LESS time you take away from office until some of those problems can be worked out And he claims to want to know whose ass to kick. Just look in the mirror, Mr. President.

I swear the next person who tells me they don’t even know how to play golf has my vote for president I don’t care who they are. And please refresh me on why he got a Nobel?

Oh by all means, he deserves full credit for the economy [nt]

Nervous Breakdown Coming?

whitman (Diary) Friday, September 3rd at 1:37PM EST (link)

I have been telling people since the election thatBO is not emotionally stable enough to govern. All his life he has had nothing but affirmation and easy success. But almost from the beginning of his presidency, his approval rating has been going down and folks have been critical of him. Yes he has had legislative success (albeit less than one would expect with so overwhelmingly friendly a Congress). But these successes have only made him more unpopular. Could his constant vacations and golf outings be a sign of a coming nervious breakdown? And what then? Will we be governed by Michelle, Rahm and David?

You’re not the only one to wonder if Mr. B.O. is unfit to handle political ridicule (I like to call “elections”). From the beginning, he has proven to me he can not handle everyday political dissent. What other president goes after citizens for merely disagreeing with him. I have stated more than once, for Obama “ego is everything”. He’s not on the ballot this mid-term, but his ego is. A symbol defeated carries more weight than the man, I figure.

Unlike Clinton, a Machiavellian genius after his mid-term rubbing, Obama will blister. We will see the worst in him and our Republic will be challenged.

Obama is too inexperienced, too thin-skinned, too-small to be President. But we knew that. Many of us chose to see skin deep and elected him anyway.

When you can’t tell their reporting from sarcasm, are they still reporting?

Srsly, does anyone think this is a valid statement in any way unless you’re making fun of someone:

His advisers described his attentiveness – noting, for example, that he discussed the economy with New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg (I) for 15 minutes before golfing – but got little traction.

If they’re *not* being sarcastic, they are way past the point of basic water carrying and well into insanity.

POTUS spent 15 minutes discussing the economy with Mayor Bloomberg. (He probably told the Mayor everything economic he knows in the first 30 seconds!). It could have been worse. Mayor Bloomberg could have spent the next four hours on the golf cart listening to POTUS expound on every thing he knows. (That would have taken at least one hole).

This is the rallying cry of the GOP.

Oh, how far the mighty as fallen. From a man who boasted to turn the ocean tides blaming a “dead party” of no ideas standing between him and greatness.

His economics were taught by liberal teachers

walter_hanson Sunday, September 5th at 10:13AM EST (link)

Rush Limbaugh has a great parody radio commercial on education. A teacher is talking to a student and even though the student is giving out wrong answers such as two plus two equals five the teacher is giving out gold stars and praise.

Obama has been praising himself believing that he has saved the economy and that we don’t know what we’re doing since we drove the car into the ditch.

Too bad he won’t listen to conservative teachers that have tried to tell him he’s wrong. He only listens to those teachers that give out the gold stars to wrong answers.

Here's some real credit due Obama..... No joke, no snark.

On September 21, President Barack Obama will award Chief Master Sergeant Richard L. Etchberger, U.S. Air Force, the Medal of Honor for conspicuous gallantry.

Chief Etchberger will receive the Medal of Honor posthumously for his heroic actions in combat on March 11, 1968 in the country of Laos.

He displayed immeasurable courage and uncommon valor – deliberately exposing himself to enemy fire in order to place his three surviving wounded comrades in the rescue slings permitting them to be airlifted to safety. As he was finally being rescued, he was fatally wounded by enemy ground fire. Chief Etchberger’s sons, Cory Etchberger, Richard Etchberger and Steve Wilson will join the President at the White House to commemorate their father’s example of selfless service and sacrifice.

Richard (Dick) L. Etchberger served in the United States Air Force from 1951 – 1968. Born in Hamburg, Pennsylvania on March 5, 1933, he was inspired to join the military due to his brother Bob enlisting in the Navy in early 1946. Upon joining the USAF on August 31, 1951, he proved to have a high aptitude in electronics and began long list of training and assignments that he would undergo to become a master in his career field. On April 1, 1967, he was promoted to Chief Master Sergeant. He held assignments in Mississippi, Utah, Morocco, North Dakota, Philippines, Illinois and the Republic of Vietnam.
