Even if they eradicate all of them, there is still a Senate/Congressional majority (which has in the past included many Republicans who will still be there after November) that believes in “affordable housing” and federal involvement in the housing market.

If we’re going to fix this problem (i.e., prevent another disastrous government-made housing bubble), we must go to the root of it. The era of government-underwritten mortgages must end. If Fannie and Freddie (and the FHA) aren’t enough to change minds on that, I don’t know what is.

The law is very damaging to small to mid size banks and it puts us one step closer to nationalization of the banking system. Think “1st Statist Bank.”

is the negative effect on rentals. The people who were placed in houses they could not afford should have been renting instead. Consequently, I have seen numerous apartment complexes under-rented, falling into disrepair, closing, you name it. Say what you will about this type of housing, it has (had?) a role to fill, and the apartment owners have been adversely impacted in a big way by the actions of these agitators. Home-wreckers is what they are.

Saddled with a campaign manager that had gorged heavily at the Fannie trough, McCain took the path of least resistance and only in passing mentioned Fannie & Freddie. The result in 2008 was that the Dems got to transfer their culpability in the housing bubble to the Republicans.

David Price (D-NC), one of the hypocrites on the list, is in trouble, as he should be. A poll commissioned by the Lawson campaign in mid-August showed Lawson ahead 45.6%-45.1%.

A historical note: Price lost his seat in 1994 and regained it in 1996. He could be one of the few, if not the only Dem, to be unseated in the GOP tsunamis of ’94 and ’10.

I can appreciate your skepticism. However, in 2008 a Lawson internal poll that showed him trailing Price 56-31. Price defeated Lawson 63-37 in the general election. The DCCC cannot take Price’s seat for granted and will be diverting resources badly need elsewhere in an attempt to hold NC-4. Would those carpetbagging yankees invading the Triangle be any kin to those that elected Christie and Brown?

some of the blame for the bubble bursting. While Fannie/Freddie were loosening the rules for sound lending the industry was quick on the draw to get as many houses sold as possible at any cost. Most of the problem with the sub prime market was the fact that the rules allowed people to buy property they cold not afford. By that I mean through creative financing a person that could only really afford a $150K property was allowed to get interest only loans on $500K houses. That should not have been allowed. The crash came because the day came when these people that were paying the interest only payments of a few hundred dollars a month turned into a few thousand dollars. Generally more than they made per month. AS these loans were being called people began to sell off their property and instead of just a few thousand doing this 100′s of thousands of people were trying to get out all at the same time. “POP” goes the bubble!

Who lost in all of this? Not the Banks. While they will cry the blues they actually made out like the bandits they are. As people were losing their homes the banks were getting bailed out. Bonuses were being passed around and the economy collapsed.
