The Republican Study Committee’s latest video is available after the fold. Personally, the older I get the more careful I become about going too many times to the Ronald Reagan well… but the comparison here between him and the people running the government right now is both spot on, and stark.
Very, very stark.

PS: There is a habit in the land of using President Reagan as a handy rhetorical club with which to beat one or another faction of conservatives; mostly used by conservatives themselves, but even the Left tries it, when they dare. I may be about to do the same thing myself; but I really do suspect that if you could get a meaningful answer to the question “What would Reagan do?” from him it’d be something along the lines of “Well, what do you want to do, and why aren’t you out doing it?”

trt1 Tuesday, August 17th at 9:01AM EST (link)Don’t ever apologize for going to the Reagan well. The man was the most articulate and sincere voice of conservative principals in our lifetime. This video knocked it out of the park as far as I am concerned. Thanks for posting.
I agree ... I think these are helpful

some only know that Reagan was revered – but don’t really know why
these videos and other items help to show us why
they help teach and illustrate
my thanks for posting them

We Use Reagan too much
CTGuyton Tuesday, August 17th at 9:59AM EST (link)I agree that we go to him too often. And those of us who are too young to really know how great the man was, can get a distorted view of what Reagan and a Reagan Conservative are.
But this video is amazing, and I felt as though he was still here, guiding us. Thanks for sharing it Moe, and thanks to those who put it together.
Not sure who else we have to go to though (nt)

JSobieski (Diary) Tuesday, August 17th at 10:25AM EST (link)but we can’t use his speeches enough. If every American would watch his Time for Choosing speech straight through a couple of times, the country would be 60% conservative and people like Obama would be limited to fringe Congressional districts instead of the US Presidency

Rule #2: Vote for the R in the general.

Rule #5: If you are using the language of the left, you probably aren’t furthering conservativism
Rule #6: The priority is issues first, candidates second, and supporters third. Nobody is bigger than the issues. Conversely, if you spend your time focusing on supporters, you are wasting everyone’s time.

We are 60% Conservative already
mc80aea Tuesday, August 17th at 10:38AM EST (link)That is what is so mind bottling about what has happened to this country. Rush quotes a poll that comes out every year (I can’t find a link) and the numbers haven’t changed in 20+ years he’s been on the air. The question asks how do you identify your self and 60+ percent say conservative as opposed to liberal…
If only we had a political party who was interested in leading as conservatives. We used to when Reagan was around…
Every poll that I have seen pretty consistently has about 40% of Americans self-identifying as conservative
JSobieski (Diary) Tuesday, August 17th at 11:34AM EST (link)I listen to Rush and I am not familiar with the poll that you reference. I may do some looking around . . ..

In my opinion I don't think we can go to
deano64 (Diary) Tuesday, August 17th at 11:54AM EST (link)the Reagan well too often. Who did more to further conservative principles in the last century? Maybe there is someone but I just can’t think of one.
I did hear our dear Senator McCain say on the radio recently that he was a Reagan Republican. That made me want to puke. It wasn’t too long ago McCain thought the era of Reagan was dead. My how an election year can change all that…at least until after the election.

"Somewhat" conservative does not equal "conservative"
JSobieski (Diary) Tuesday, August 17th at 12:38PM EST (link)I’m sure that 80% of the country would say more conservative than liberal.
The point being that we are a center-right country, but we are not 60% conservative. 60% center-right is not 60% conservative.

callawyn (Diary) Tuesday, August 17th at 12:54PM EST (link)Best article, best news I’ve read in awhile.
I forget who said this, but: “Barack Obama ran the most successful moderate Republican campaign in history.” Think about that. He didn’t run on any of the radical stuff he’s implementing, he promised a tax cut for 95% of americans, energy independence and promised to ‘change’ Washington (transparency, crackdowns on lobbyist influence, etc).
They couched Obamacare in free market terms.
They’ve named their ‘card check’ bill the “employee free choice act” or some such, I refer to it as the ‘workplace intimidation act’.
They know Americans reject their agenda, so they hide it under a cloak of free market terms or language from the founding fathers, when they are in fact doing just the opposite.
The truth can make us miserable before it makes things better
dajeeps (Diary) Tuesday, August 17th at 10:16AM EST (link)I try not to think of Reagan now because, since I was coming of age back when he was elected, I remember what it was like to have him as our leader. It was truely a magical time in American history as men with his quaities are so rare, and he certainly left his mark on us. And now we have this nitwit ideologue and his cronies stinking up the place with delusions of utopia, treating us like piggybanks instead of human beings all the while claiming to be American. They are not my brethren.
I hate having to endure this tyrannical circus. It’s shameful, embarrassing, and depressing because these things have a way of leaving a lasting stain for the here on out. It would be so nice if we could, once and for all just wash our robes clean and start over with freedom as it was intended.

Going to the Reagan well
aesthete (Diary) Tuesday, August 17th at 2:19PM EST (link)is a good thing in an age of moral midgets, cowards, and quislings. Reagan was one of a kind and is name-dropped too often, but what the man actually had to say is all sorts of useful for today.
