Another Democratic bite at the Big Apple?

So, it’s reported that they’re trying to ease out Gov David Paterson of NY:

Democratic Party officials are putting pressure on New York Gov. David A. Paterson to resign from office as additional details emerge about his alleged effort to intervene in a domestic-violence case involving a senior aide.

The state Democratic chairman, Jay Jacobs, headed to Albany Tuesday morning to meet with Mr. Paterson and encourage him to step aside, according to a source. Mr. Jacobs declined to comment, as did the Paterson administration.

(Via AoSHQ) For those keeping track, this would mean that if Paterson resigns (and people are trying to get him to go) New York would have its third governor in two years, and its first completely unelected governor since… well, I think since William Tryon, Royal Governor of New York.  And next January, NY would have had four governors in three years.

The question is whether it’d be a fourth Democratic governor.  I understand that AG Cuomo is eager for the job (in a suitably deniable fashion), but at some point we have to ask: just how many politicians will NY Democrats get to cycle through before the electorate gets tired of the game?  We started this particular run with a crusading district attorney, and look what happened to him.

PS: Yes, yes, yes: Cuomo’s a shoo-in over, say, Rick Lazio.  He’s at Martha Coakley-levels of inevitability at this point, in fact.

*And one who needed a court decision to be seated.

New York state government is inherently corrupt.

And Massachusetts isn't?

Coakley levels of inevitability sounds about right. He’s leading Lazio by double digits because everybody is just irritated at Paterson and haven’t had the opportunity to examine him. Once he’s in the spotlight himself and has nothing more to say than “remember my dad?” he could fall to earth pretty quickly.

Rick Lazio meanwhile has been out doing the hard work. He’s got a good chance.

Sad part of it is, that of the 3, maybe 4 Democrat governors this state has had or could have, Paterson, the most hated, I thought of as the least objectionable. He isn’t great, and I never would have voted for him, but he at least tries to understand that sometimes government programs need to be cut. That’s a half-point better than the rest of the Democrats and half of the Republicans in this state.

Somewhat OT, but why are we still calling them the "Democratic" Party?

bannedtroll Tuesday, March 2nd at 7:32PM EST (link)

What exactly is “democratic” about them anymore? Voter fraud and intimidation? Seizing control and influence of every facet of the American economy? Finding invisible language in the Constitution or just ignoring it altogether?

I would suggest herein they are to be referred to as the “Jackass Party” if the name didn’t seem to imply little more than incompetence. I’m willing to give them a little more credit than that: they know full well what their agenda is, they just have no idea what their social utopia is actually going to look like when it gets here.

On the other hand, they did hold a filibuster-proof supermajority for almost a year and still haven’t pushed across their holy grail of government oppression. Maybe the moniker is befitting after all.

To be honest my state is on verge of becoming California and while Peterson has shown zero leadership I don’t think this state can take a Governor who is irrelevant ( a Lt Gov no one elected, the Gen Assembly never even voted to confirm him)

We are better off just having special election for Governor then at this point I don’t see how this state can wait until January for new Governor to be sworn in ( we need budget, we have serious problems with MTA, schools broke, everything is broke)

Actually the Dems control State Senate by 1 Seat now. A Senator was just thrown out for beating up his girlfriend ( A Dem in Queens) and he is running to reclaim his seat which is happening soon ( if Republicans win it the Senate will be tied again)

I left there near the end of the Pataki years, and it sure didn’t take the rats long to drive it off a cliff. I now hang my hat the formerly wayward red state of VA. I can’t tell you how nice it is to pull a lever and have it actually mean something.

It’s a tough situation you’re in. I happen to think NY (sort of like NJ and CA) is so thoroughly corrupt, a Republican gov can only block a liberal legislature so much. (Good to hear you at least have the potential for gridlock.) Part of me wishes they would just continue electing nothing but Dems to serve as yet another example of what actually happens when leftist ideas meet reality.

It’s so obvious: MA, IL, MI, CA, NY, NJ – they’re all financial trainwrecks and yet all they’re all strong liberal states. Gee, think there’s a connection? DC Republicans should be beating those numbers like a drum and contrasting them with those of strong Republican states.

Why, again, does Giuliani not want the job?

money

proudgop (Diary) Tuesday, March 2nd at 8:02PM EST (link)

He is making a lot money doing his financial stuff. I don’t think he came from money and his ex wife took a lot of what he had to be honest.

That actually makes sense

Good on Giuliani. He certainly wouldn’t be the man I think he is if he was making that much as a politician…

New Yorkers

Sadly, Republicans have lost state mostly on social issues. Plus states demographics have changed a lot; NYC will be a majority hispanic city soon.

I would love for Republicans to find some rich Hispanic who can self fundraise to challenge Gillibrand.

they have all changed demographics

There are two stories from the western end of NY. Some candidates are waiting in the wings to see what plays out with the big boys. With NY primaries so late, why show your hand so early. The other is that no one has the funds to challenge the big names, so why jump in.
This actually IS a (dare I use the term) historic election coming up for NY. November 2010 will see voting for a new governor, 2 senators, all House seats, all seats of the state senate and assembly. With so many positions up for grabs the lowly Republicans will want to place those willing candidates where they do the most good. Not all positions are viable, so the underdog party will do well to wait for the low-hanging fruit.

that with the boobs that run this state they are all not considered “low hanging fruit” . Take a look at this cast of misfits; Chuck Schumer, Kristine Gillibrand, Charlie Rangel, Dave Paterson and that’s only the national ones, locals are even kookier.

NY Gov Republican Primary

wiseburn Saturday, March 6th at 12:02AM EST (link)

RedStaters should take a look a Warren Redlich who plans to primary Lazio for the GOP nod. Redlich plans to eliminate several departments and unlike Lazio, supports the second amendment.

Redlich’s site is: http://wredlich.com/ny/

Lazio voted for the Brady Bill and the Assault Weapons Ban. Since he lost to Hillary, he’s become a bailed out banker with a bonus, and with Cuomo helped create the mortgage crisis.
