Claiming to only know what they see in news reports, the Sanders’ family and Senate staff is not talking about an apparent FBI investigation into Jane O’Meara Sanders – wife of U.S. Senator and 2016 presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.

An investigative report by Seven Days, a news organization in Vermont, details what is known about the investigation thus far.

The investigation appears to stem from a January 2016 complaint filed by Vermont Republican Party vice chair Brady Toensing on behalf of Catholic parishioner Wendy Wilton, a conservative activist and Rutland City treasurer. Toensing alleged that O’Meara Sanders committed federal loan fraud by inflating the number of fundraising commitments she had secured to buy the 32-acre North Avenue campus from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Burlington. When those donations failed to materialize, the college defaulted on its loans — costing the church, which financed a portion of the sale, between $1.6 million and $2 million.

Yikes.

Neither the FBI nor the U.S. attorney for the District of Vermont would comment on the matter. But according to Carol Moore, who served as the college’s final president until it closed last May, an FBI agent who contacted her “three or four weeks ago” called it “an ongoing investigation.”

Moore said the focus of the feds’ questions was clear: “Was there any collusion between Jane Sanders and the bank?” Moore said, quoting the FBI agent. “Did she falsify records in order to get the loan from the bank?”

Well, that’s certainly not a good situation. What was it about Democratic presidential candidates and the FBI in 2016? For all those wishing they’d Felt The Bern instead of going along With Her, it looks like the FBI was going to be a looming shadow no matter what.

That’s not to equate the two offenses. Hillary’s was way worse. But still, the Federal Bureau of Investigation is looking into your wife’s shady business dealings, Bernie? Come on, man.

The investigation seems very young right now, so there isn’t a whole lot that’s out there. But, the speculation and the evidence in the article linked above do not paint a good picture. While it may be that she’s not guilty of anything other than being incompetent at her job at the college – also evidenced by the fact that they ousted her in 2011.

If there is something to it, this won’t be the last time we see anything about it. Keep your eyes peeled.
