The Morning Briefing: The Tsunami

[UPDATE]: The whole of the Maine legislator has flipped to the GOP. Several people I have talked to said such a deep and thorough shift to any one party has not happened in one election in the past 100 years.
——————

This is an unusual Morning Briefing because you need to understand what happened while you’ve been sleeping.

Republican gains are massive. And when I say Republican gains are massive, I mean tsunami.

No, the GOP did not take the Senate and some races are still outstanding, but the Senate GOP has moved to the right. More so, the Republicans picking up, in the worst case, seven seats is historically strong.

But consider that as you wake up this morning the Republican Party has picked up more seats in the House of Representatives than at any time since 1948 — that is more than sixty seats. Ike Skelton, Class of 1976, is gone. Many, many other Democrats are gone.

That, in and of itself, is significant. But that’s not the half of it. The real story is the underreported story of the night — the Republican pick ups at the state level.

There will be 18 states subject to reapportionment. The Republicans will control a majority of those — at least ten and maybe a dozen or more. More significantly, a minimum of seventeen state legislative houses have flipped to the Republican Party.

The North Carolina Legislature is Republican for the first time since 1870. Yes, that is Eighteen Seventy.

The Alabama Legislature is Republican for the first time since 1876.

For those saying this is nothing because it is the South, consider these:

The entire Wisconsin and New Hampshire legislatures have flipped to the GOP by wide margins.

The State Houses in Indiana, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Ohio, Iowa, Montana, and Colorado flipped to the GOP.

The Maine and Minnesota Senates flipped to the GOP.

The Texas and Tennessee Houses went from virtually tied to massive Republican gains. The gains in Texas were so big that the Republicans no longer need the Democrats to get state constitutional amendments out of the state legislature.

These gains go all the way down to the municipal level across the nation. That did not happen even in 1994.

This was a tsunami.

I dunno, but here is my narrative for the next two years

Marcus_Traianus (Diary) Wednesday, November 3rd at 6:22AM EST (link)

The House passes everything s majority of citizens want. The Senate with Murkowski, Reid, clowns from Maine and “moderates” fiddle while Rome burns. In two years Democrats dust off the party of “no” meme and say that but for them the moon would have crashed into earth. GDP growth is at sub European levels- but growing; and that’s the point- isn’t it?

Meanwhile back in the states…..

- New York and California experience anemic growth, make superficial fiscal/tax changes and put a drag on the entire economy. Both states continue to bleed population and erosion of their tax base. Conversely New Jersey stays on its six step program to become model for others who still don’t get it.

At the Governors meeting, California and NY get seats at the kids table.

Eventually Jerry Brown gets caught bribing unions and is impeached. California finds the corpse of Jimmy Hoffa, props it up and elects him interim Governor.

Cuomo gets caught tag teaming porn stars with Elliot Spitzer. An investigation yields it was paid for with Teacher’s Union dues and arranged by the SEIU. Carl Paladino articulately opines “see, I told you he was a f****** jerk”. NY digs up Boss Tweeds corpse. Elects HIM Governor. The states with Republican governors all laugh. The last person in NY turns of the lights and moves to Pennsylvania- or was it Curacao?

“Both of our political parties, at least the honest portion of them, agree conscientiously in the same object—the public good; but they differ essentially in what they deem the means of promoting that good. …businessman in CA, he says CA has to go over the cliff and crash into the abyss before the voters there wake up. He told me a week before the election that Moonbeam Brown would win and soon after they would go over the cliff and there wouldn’t be a woman with R after her name or a GOP legislature to take the blame. He hopes there are enough people with some sense left to clean up the mess.

Also heard Charlie Sheen would be supplying the babes and joining Coumo and Spitzer in NY for the party. Chris Christie then invites NY businesses to cross the Hudson (they wont need no tunnel then) and set up shop in the new taxed less NJ, and Rick Perry sends the top 100 businesses in NY City letters inviting them to state income tax free Texas. Hat, boot, belt buckle and blue jean sales go up.up.up in Houston and Dallas.

Next TWO years are going to be fun. Cold Warrior fills out Precinct Committee positions in all 50 States and they nominate conservative-nouns to all positions for 2012 elections. Another back-to-back tsunami hits America coloring it red from sea to shining sea.

31,200 absentee ballots were mailed out. But some of those and the questionable ballots won’t be counted for a week. and then other absentees won’t be counted until Nov. 17.

War and Bush fatigue, combined with Republicans getting too comfortable with Washington while in power, soured our center-right nation on Republican governance. Beginning with 2006, the voters gave the Democrats a shot, as the only other game in town.

It was a failed experiment. America never bargained for this size federal government – most thought it far too big before Obama’s expansion projects.

So we have another chance. The only ones who can screw it up are our own. The Democrats aren’t dead by any means, but they can only win if we mess it up, at least in the near future.

Why have a Massachusetts GOP, when they, still, can’t become a decent opponent to the ongoing Democratic Political Machine? I’m beyond fed up with this ongoing losing streak of the Massachusetts GOP! More than sixty years of a GOP losing streak for most political races. Many Massachusetts people and many Massachusetts businesses will be hurt, because of what happened in Massachusetts, on November 2. The political problems never end in Massachusetts, and I’m beyond sick of this! I would move out, if I could. I’m stuck here! I feel so hopeless!

It’s like the entire left is feeling orgasmic. They already picture him in The White House.

I don’t understand this! Schumer’s a lying, disrespectful toad – don’t forget he started the whole “tea-bagger” thing, and he likes to call little people doing their jobs (a concept unfamiliar to him,) b#@ches. What the hell has he done for anybody but himself in this state? And his puppet – Gillibrand? Did I miss the memo? Do the Dems like big tobacco, now? Last I heard, smoking was the tool of the anti-Christ, as far as they were concerned.

I can only ask of my fellow New Yorkers – why? Are we not already a laughing stock in a nation that includes California? The NYS legislature is inept, incompetent and indifferent to the needs of this state! WAKE UP!! There are no jobs here. There is no growth here. Businesses are leaving. There will soon only be the super-rich and the rest of us.

My only consolation in NY is that Scott, (I-spend-most -of-my- weekends-with-my-family-of-52,) Murphy is gone in January.

But I’m not going anywhere. I refuse to give up. This is my home, I was born here and I’m going to fight the good fight ’til they put me in a box. I’m not only going to toss down the gauntlet, I intend to ping it off the Democrats’ collective foreheads as long as I have breath.

The Key To NY Now Is The NY State Senate

IJB Wednesday, November 3rd at 9:52AM EST (link)

Based on current returns, I think the NY State Senate is deadlocked at 31-31. But there’s one outstanding seat that’s currently tied, with only 80-someodd percent in – if the NY GOP can take that one, they’ll control the NY State Senate again 32-30.

For NY’ers, that outcome is your only shot at sanity.

Believe me – here in CA, we don’t even have that!

NY - stupidest voters in the country

SKully (Diary) Wednesday, November 3rd at 2:56PM EST (link)

That is the theme of talk radio today. We missed the wave – again. In upstate, we can’t even blame NYC for the woes this time. Antoine Thompson is ahead by 258 votes for his state senate seat. He should have lost by a landslide because of how crooked and rock-stupid he is.
Louise Slaughter openly admits “I refuse to give those people a forum, it is beneath the dignity of my office”, referring to her constituents. Those same people send her back for her 13th term with 66% of the vote – the lowest margin for her in a long time.
Taking back the NY Senate would be the only bright spot in this dark blue place.
Please gloat heavily, you lucky non-NY and non-CA Red Staters. I am enjoying your wins and wondering where we’ll move to when all our kids have left.

Today, I will shed some tears of joy.

Tomorrow, I guess it’s back to work!

I was checking out the results here in Indiana last night and they were IMPRESSIVE. In any race where the Dem was in the lead, the Republican was close behind. I think the only one entirely undisputed in favor of the Ds was Andre Carson’s district. I’m not sure, but I think his opponent was also black, and that would have been an epic win for that district! But they reelected Carson because they *always* reelect Carson, just because he’s Julia Carson’s grandson, I guess.

Can’t fix stupid. But, apparently, you CAN vote it out! Really truly! Because Baron Hill got his backside handed to him oh so solidly… And in my district, the R won by 70% when I looked at the results before bed last night. This morning, a local news website is saying 69%, but it’s not as if one percentage point made a big difference to the results. They had him listed as the winner around 8:30 last night, since the polls closed at 6.

Sure, some Dems kept their seats nationwide, but ohhh, don’t retribution feel good? Would’ve liked to see Reid go down like a punk, though. Ah well.

I will now proceed to smile a lot for the next couple hours before focusing on the months between now and the day all the new guys show up to work. If only they could go in today, eh?

The Dems are gonna be scrambling for explanations. This will be good.

I love the smell of schadenfreude in the morning.

By the time we finish our morning coffee we should be done celebrating. The fact is that we need to really improve our ground game if we want to take the White House in 2012. In my state (NJ) our house pick-up, Runyan, won by about 6k. Given the make-up of his district he is going to have a difficult time holding on in 2012 with the increased Dem turnout when BHO is on the ticket. The RNC needs to get its act together and quickly. Overall quite happy though. Ohio and PA were huge for 2012.

My Take...

CJB68 Wednesday, November 3rd at 7:05AM EST (link)

My take on this election is kind of a mixed bag.  Like my dad, I’m a bit disappointed in Delaware.  Too many soccer moms with cozy banking industry jobs, union organizers with happy political ties and welfare brats with no work ethic living (or shacking up) in New Castle County, not enough small business owners, working Americans and responsible parents outside the other two counties to make much of a difference.  57-41 against us.

There’s a lot of work to do.  The entitlement mentality isn’t going to help us here in this Blue State.  I’ve actually considered moving out of town if the opportunity presents itself.

However, I’m not giving up on the Republican brand yet.  We made gains.  Delaware has a governor’s race coming up next time that’ll determine who seats whom in the party leadership.  Obama, his administration staff, and the Democrats still in control of the Senate could screw things up enough to make even their traditional supporters finally have to cut them off in ’12.  The tsunami is only a presage for a flood.

For my part, I’ll be keeping ties on what’s going on in the Republican party in Delaware.  I’ve got enough time in this world to get to it, if I’m not hired by someone in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, or North Carolina.  The battle is only beginning!

Knew I was going to like it the first time I crossed the border and saw the sign: “Drive Friendly, The Texas Way.” (First time I flew in to San Antonia for military and didn’t see the sign but liked it then too). It was nice to choose from Republicans who were in the John Tower wing or the Ernie Angelo wing or the Eddie (I’m mad) Chiles wing.

Get on down there, plenty of jobs. Houston is FOURTH largest city in US and in the summer we have air conditioning. In the winter we have golf. and in the spring, blue bonnets! No State income tax but high property taxes, sure wish Republicans would do something about that….it’d make Texas a lot more perfect!

Texas is a wonderful anchor, but it can’t fill the Congress all by itself, unfortunately. I’d get “a thrill” up my leg if it could.

We in the blue states have got to turn them red, or at least purple. It’s the only way to make sure the socialists don’t get another shot like they’ve had. If we are to destroy their hold on the country forever, we have to keep fighting them here.

In the meantime, thank God we can count on Texas.

A waste of time for trying that in Massachusetts!

It’s been tried for more than sixty years, with the same “The Democrats and/or RINO Republicans win big in Massachusetts!” crap, over and over again! More than sixty years of a losing streak for conservatives in Massachusetts is enough! It’s beyond time to move out of Massachusetts! Stay and “fight the good fight”? What are you talking about? It’s been tried in Massachusetts for more than sixty years, with the same “all leftist, all of the time” results, every time! Massachusetts is a lost cause, because it’s a lost cause! And everybody outside of Massachusetts telling me to stay and “fight the good fight”-your sick! I need out of Massachusetts, asap!

Nevada and Alaska Anger Me

The dropping of the ball by Cornyn and McConnell towards Alaska is an indication that they still don’t get it. Cutting the deal/caving towards a threat by Murkowski to caucus/not caucus with the GOP handicapped Miller greatly.
I’m also suspicious of the results in Nevada. What are they thinking? Unemployment at 14%, your Senator has approval ratings as low as the President and his healthcare bill, and yet their get out the vote effort surpassed the GOP in droves. I’ll always believe there were dirty dealings to get Reid re-elected, but the GOP should have been better prepared for this race.

Not a bad night at all

fredrik Wednesday, November 3rd at 8:32AM EST (link)

Alaska and Nevada are big disappointments, but overall this was a great election. Happy to see principled people like Toomey and Paul win. Happy to see anomalies like Pomeroy gone. Happy to see unprincipled hacks like Specter gone. Happy to see disgraces like Grayson, Etheridge and Hare gone. And as a strong first amendment defender, I am happy to see Feingold gone.

The D’s victories in CA-GOV and NY-GOV will likely be of little long-term benefit to them: they will preside over these states’ continuing downward spiral.

Obamacare will likely remain a gift that keeps giving: I expect lots of D’s to retire in the next two years. Between that, reapportioning and redistricting, 2012 could also be a very good year for us.

I wish I could have confidence in our congressional leadership not to drop the ball though.

Surprised to see Toomey an Haley’s races be as close as they were. Hoping Buck pulls it out in Colorado and ditto with Dino Rossi.

Huge disappointed and stunned with Nevada’s result, I hope we get some kind of feedback from the people who were on the ground there. All the reports I read said that Angle signs were all over the place, enthusiasm for Angle was super high and polls which were tight generally had her up by 1-4 points. Has Angle herself made any comment about the election?

I kind of figured Massachusetts would stay deep blue, was hoping they’d wake up to their senses but wishful thinking I suppose.

Nevada Is Doubly Disappointing 'Cos It Looks Like We Failed To Take The NV Legislature Too

IJB Wednesday, November 3rd at 9:00AM EST (link)

I really figured the GOP would at least take the NV State Senate , but it looks like the NV GOP fell one seat short. In the NV State House, we picked up seats, but didn’t get all that near a majority.

It’s just lucky we won the NV GOV race, or we would have been shutout of NV redistricting, which would have been a disaster as NV is set to gain a seat. Even with NV GOV, our position is much weaker than if we’d won the NV State Senate too.

I worry what this election portends for both NV and NC – after this election, I’m not sure we can’t say that both of these states are now “Blue States”… :(

Is Florida now more conservative than North Carolina or Colorado?

Another Interesting Question - Can We Draw a Republican House Seat Out of ME?!

IJB Wednesday, November 3rd at 9:12AM EST (link)

In ME, the GOP wins controls the ME Legislature (the ME House just *barely*…), and looks likely to pick up the Governorship too.

So the question is – can a Republican leaning House seat be designed in ME?! Are there enough “Republican bastions” in ME to actually put together a House seat?

If there are, now’s the time to do it – we likely won’t get another shot to create a House seat like this in ME for a long time!

but there are obviously some very stubborn and deep, deep, DEEP blue states. I read the above comment about MA. The same can said of MD. What is it with this state? Mikulski again????? The GOP needs to take a look at these 2 states (along with others) and come up with a game plan to put some red in them. The Tea Party has done it’s work. We need more ammo. Other than that…a great night. And, Redstate…thank you for your work. You’re fantastic.

Disagree

mboyle1988 (Diary) Wednesday, November 3rd at 1:28PM EST (link)

I think the GOP needs to leave the stubborn states for dead and concentrate on two things:
1. The West Virginia/Arkansas problem–Democrats should never be allowed to win in the south ever again. Ever. Not a single statewide race or white majority house district or legislative district. It’s possible. No white counties vote for dems for president.

2. Swing states–Nevada, Colorado etc.

first and then cutting government down to size. It will help Virginia too. All you need to know about Maryland you can tell by looking at a road map, a passenger train map, and the Metro map. All roads lead to DC and a supra-majority of residents work for the government. Heck even Baltimore has the Social Security administration as one of their biggest employers. The primary reason Virginia escapes the same fate is they have enough land mass that they actually citizens who work real jobs as opposed to only government work. Even the “private” sector work is either government contracting or lobbying.

Actually, Prop. 25 Passing Is a *Good* Thing, Long-Term

IJB Wednesday, November 3rd at 11:46AM EST (link)

1) It eliminates any incentive for “squish” Republicans to vote for Democrat-written, tax-raising, fiscal-disaster budgets. That, if nothing else, will go a long way towards strengthening the GOP as a state party in CA.

2) If, Heavan forbid! the GOP ever takes control of the CA Legislature (yeah, that won’t happen for at least another 20 years – but I can dream, can’t I!?!) they’ll be able to budget all on their own, without any input from Dems in the CA Legislature.

3) Dems will now own *exclusive* responsibility/blame for what happens in CA from here on in. CA Dems can’t hide behind GOP “squishes” to deflect the blame anymore.

On balance, I think it’s all good… :)

But, in the end, super-majority budgeting was one of the “evils” that killed this state, IMHO.

I am most depressed about Ken Buck, but am still holding some hope for Di Rossi.

There were only two thing I needed to know about Carly

The_Gadfly (Diary) Wednesday, November 3rd at 10:14PM EST (link)

to know she was going to lose:

First, she was one of the people who helped John McCain lose to The Big 0.

Second, despite their liberalism, Hewlett and Packard created a smart vibrant tech company. Carly drove it into the ground and they still haven’t recovered.

But she won the state primary, and in deference to the California Republicans, I (mostly) kept my mouth shut after the primaries ended.

The Buck loss is disappointing but he was a good candidate. A little more clean up work on the progressive/socialist infrastructure they built up in the state and we can turn around the races there. It isn’t a blue state, just one that’s been hijacked.

Florida redistricting...

cwilson (Diary) Wednesday, November 3rd at 11:50AM EST (link)

R’s hold the state House and Senate (by huge numbers), and Rick Scott (R) squeaked out a win for Governor. FL is set to gain at least one more seat in redistricting…and yet:

Soros-funded state constitutional amendments #5 and #6 passed by 62%: “Standards for legislature to follow in legislative redistricting” and “Standards for legislature to follow in congressional redistricting”. However, the “standards” are nebulous (by design) and open to giant court challeges — plus, Florida is required by the federal Voting Rights Act to create a certain number of “majority-minority” (read: democratic) districts. It’s full employment for lawyers, and it’s guaranteed that judges — either federal or state, or both — will be drawing our districts. NOT the Republican legislature and governor.

Illinois - a mixed bag.

acat (Diary) Wednesday, November 3rd at 12:19PM EST (link)

Mark Kirk (R) wins, and will be seated to complete the remainder of Obama’s term. (no more Sen. Burris, and Giannouias the crook goes away..)

Governor is another story – Quinn (D) and Brady (R) are within 10,000 votes. Sounds like a big gap, but the Libertarian drew over 130,000 votes, and the Green broke 90,000. I expect this will go to a recount, and be stolen in Chicago since Cook County reported big numbers early, but still haven’t reached 100%….

This one was Brady’s to lose .. and he ran a decent but not great campaign. He seemed out of touch with the voters he most needed – the suburban “collar counties” .. they went for Brady, but not by enough of a margin to matter.

The “conventional wisdom” got this one backwards – Kirk’s coattails seem longer than Brady’s at this point – Kirk won all but two counties (Cook, i.e. Chicago, and Alexander) while Brady lost in four – Cook, Alexander, Jackson, and St. Clair. Other than Cook, these were all southern Illinois near the Missouri border.

The state house (Illinois General Assembly) was another mixed bag, but Repubs won overall. Repubs won 9 races for the Illinois Senate, Dems won 7 – Repubs won 44 races for the Illinois House, Dems won 27. (data from Chicago Tribune)

This appears to mean a Republican lower house in Illinois – it’s not clear on the Senate side, since Illinois State Senators have a very strange cycle. It’s also not clear whether this will be enough to get the state out of its’ current deep rut.

Kirk had the advantage

southernilpat Wednesday, November 3rd at 2:50PM EST (link)

There was no incumbent running in the Senatorial race. Quinn is a sitting D governor and the SIL counties he won contain East St. Louis, Cairo, and Carbondale, the home of Quinn’s running mate Sheila Simon. That doesn’t mean Kirk really has any coat tails to speak of, most people I know voted for him as the lesser of two evils.

And yes, I expect there is enough of the old Daley machine left to steal the governor’s seat even though they weren’t able to get the Senate one this time.

Yes, but the General Assembly...

acat (Diary) Wednesday, November 3rd at 3:39PM EST (link)

looks a lot more red than it did.

And while Quinn is governor, he’s also an ineffectual gadfly. I’d wondered what Simon’s claim to fame is – now I know – she’s able to bring the larger southern counties.

A turn-over in the general assembly will seriously dent Quinn’s ability to do anything… not that he needs much help.

p.s. yes, Kirk was the lesser of two evils, but so was Brady… coattails are relative.

for keeping me informed about the candidates and the issues. I tried to donate a little to every money bomb you suggested. This morning I feel like a proud mother to every candidate who won, while hurting for those who didn’t.

Just for today, it’s appropriate to feel the proverbial Chris Matthews thrill up the leg, but we cannot and must not ever become complacent again. We should go back to work tomorrow. Keep contacting your representatives and let them know we expect results, not compromise, or they will feel the same sting of rejection we delivered to many across our country yesterday.

I am particularly proud of 2 results. Alabama elected a Republican majority to the state house for the first time in 136 years and swept all major positions, My hometown in the historically Democratic TN 4th District helped boot out Lincoln Davis who was obviously bitter last night This seat was at one time held by Al Gore, Sr. and then junior until they redistricted him to another area. If only we could redistrict him out of the country along with a few others, but at least they’re now out of office.

because that slug, Alan Grayson, is outta here. Maybe he’ll move to NY to be closer to his MSNBC pals? Cheers for Scott, Rubio, Webster, Adams and Col. West too. Unfortunately, as CWilson mentions above, the libtard redistricting amendments went through. As did an extra tax for Orlando area schools. Boneheads!

It means ‘ and with your spirit’ in that funny language they use in my church. Many thanks for a great opportunity to do a little bit to help out something I care about, my freedom. And yours to.

My sister and I start our plan today to leave California. Our plan? Set goals, achieve goals. Simple.

Plano, Texas is our goal.

America is an idea; a noble idea that essentially boils down to the shocking belief that the masses are in fact not asses. John Nolte

Props that passed – the “simple majority” proposition they sold by promising people that, for every day the budget didn’t pass, legislators would lose their pay. Big whoop – now a simple majority taxes us deeper. However, the prop to allow businesses to determine how to allocate write-offs for multi-state companies did pass. Businesses can cling to that for a while. We also won the redistricting commission prop. Legislators can’t draw their own boundary lines anymore. Another big win – they can’t call new taxes “fees” – and any changes in existing “fees” will automatically trigger an assessment of its status as a fee.

Props that failed – the “hold off on cap and trade until our economy springs back” died last night. Screws our businesses HARD, and our jobless rate will now soar still higher. However, the “parks and rec” tax (revived car tax in disguise) was defeated, so we can all go back to paying for what we actually want in terms of our recreational activites (except pot – that got stomped). The prop that allows government to rape the transportation and infrastructure funds passed. Hello bad roads and more union payoffs.

So sorry that OC over-ruled the will of the rest of the state and put Babs Ma’am back in her seat. You should see the county-by-county vote tally on Carly. She came very close.

How *anybody* could vote for Moonbeam is beyond me. We’ll chalk it up to the Peter Principle.

Analysis: We are putting in the very least amount of $$$ needed to spruce up the house, selling it, and moving our businesses to a state with no income tax and at least a center-right state legislation. Detroit is California’s future. We see the writing on the wall and we are acting before it is too late.

We are a family here so will pass on some TX info and just some thoughts

1. Whatever you need to do for best interest of your family, wish you well.
2. Remember we will need conservatives in CA to pick up the pieces of the Lib induced financial crunch within the next 2 years.
3. California is fantastically beautiful and varied even in the highly populated areas, you will miss that immediate gorgeous scenery unless you move to the Hill Country (San Antonio – Austin). There, California expatriates to Austin hardly notice they have moved, for topographic as well as demographic reasons. Sort of California East.
4. You will have the same, comfortable “this is a big d#$n state and it can’t be ignored” feeling although the politics are very different. Sorry all other great states, it’s just a feeling in the air in TX and CA esp.. I pray you can sell your house, if so, the reverse sticker shock you encounter moving into a major metro area in TX will keep you on a giddy financial high for at least a year.
6. Property taxes, utility bills can
be higher in TX than most other states. Yes you got that right. But still no state income tax.
7. The friendliness of the people is genuine but still some especially from the North, it gives them the creeps because they think it is affected.
8. Airlines work better in TX than CA, you will quickly notice.
9. No you dont have to have a gun but there are a lot here in legal possession.
10. Texans have had to survive now across 3 centuries by being willing to tell particularly, Eastern snobs, and other invaders of all sorts, where to go, and really mean it. You need not be put off, confused or feel left out of the fun. CA has in fact produced some great, great conservative politicians including Duncan Hunter and Ronaldus Maximus himself, RWR.
