Barack Obama again waited for Rush Limbaugh to go on vacation before addressing the public from the Oval Office. Like the last speech, this speech was, for three-quarters of it, dry and monotone — President Spock addressing the nation without emotion.
Finally, at the end, Spockobama gave into emotion and showed some talking about the troops.
Throughout though, the speech was a rather pathetic speech. Not since February of 2009 has Barack Obama talked in detail about Iraq and his Oval Office speech tonight indicates this may be the last we ever hear of Iraq from him. He couldn’t wait to move on to topics more to his liking.
He praised George W. Bush — but curiously set up his praise in a way to make himself look better. He then turned almost as quickly to the economy and blamed George Bush for the economic picture. At least tonight, however, he was kind enough not to use Bush’s name directly.
Changing subjects again, this speech about Iraq went off on domestic spending initiatives, then made sure the Taliban knew we definitely would be departing Afghanistan on time so they could sit back and relax a few more months before taking back over.
In short, it was a pathetic mashup of schizophrenic campaign themes built up as an “Iraq speech” so the networks would carry it in full. The speech could be boiled down to “I love the troops. Cough. Iraq. Cough. Jobs, jobs, jobs. Hey, let’s go spend some more money!!!! Cough. Iraq. Cough.”

New Sharron Angle ad
redtillimdead (Diary) Tuesday, August 31st at 9:32PM EST (link)I know this isn’t exactly the best place to post it, but this is where it will get the attention it needs. Erick, we need this on the front page. Sharron Angle has a new ad out, and it is probably her best yet. Its not as funny as the love story one, but its the first one she actually talks right to the voters in. This makes her into a real person, despite what Harry Reid has tried to paint her as. Its shows how Reid has hurt NV families. Here is the ad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMT4-HY-Vi0
Sharron Angle is running low on cash, and she needs these ads to stay on the air to compete with Reid and stay tied, or move up, in the polls. We need to help her reach her goal of raising 3.25 million dollars. She is only 12k away. Donate: https://secure.piryx.com/donate/MqXmkiis/SharronAngle/midnav

Obama's speech rivals the worst in history
fpete13527 (Diary) Tuesday, August 31st at 9:42PM EST (link)obama sounded like a second grader reading flash cards.
bobojake (Diary) Wednesday, September 1st at 12:44AM EST (link)Today when he was politicing at Ft Bless in his monotone he said someting to the effect as long as i am President.
I wish I would of had a replay because he sounded just like and exboss that had in a meeting and said he was going to do this for us as long as he was VP. Two weeks later my boss was then my exboss.
That was how obama sounded talking to our TROOPS” the Greatest in the WORLD” just need a leader and our leaders in the Different Branches are retiring getting away from obama..
I am flat-footed, shaking my head...
conservativecurmudgeon (Diary) Tuesday, August 31st at 10:11PM EST (link)Listening to the President on the radio tonight, I was struck by a couple of things:
1) I really have a hard time these days countenancing the sound of Obama’s voice. Literally. It sounds like he’s got half-chewed hot-dog shoved behind his back molars, and the way his “S’s” come out so sharp and long, they take on the tone of a band-saw cutting galvanized roofing.
2) I am really tired of jargon. This man is a walking cliche, or, rather, those that program his Tele-Promp-Ter are walking cliches.
3) Does this man REALLY think he has any credibility with the American people anymore? Does he really think he can sit there and lavish praise on our beloved, magnificent Armed Forces when most everyone remembers his fiery vitriol against them during his intramural Senate career? Does he really think we don’t remember he wanted to make veterans PAY for their own battle-incurred medical expenses, while he is claiming his administration is rolling out the Red Carpet for the VA like never before? And finally, does he really think you can on the one hand have flexibility “on the ground” for a war, and on the other, a timetable to end it? I shake my head…
The words of this president stand on their heads. He is a liar, a dissembler, a con man. America knows this.
He doesn't have creditability with the Citzens/voters/taxpayers.

“Government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the Earth.” Abraham Lincoln
Can there be such a defining, historic quote from tonight’s presidential address? We scratch our heads. No wonder Robert Gibbs hemmed and hawed when directly asked five times if the President would thank Bush would be thanked for the success of the surge.

Oval Office decor
azmar Wednesday, September 1st at 2:12PM EST (link)Sage green? Where did you see any of that? It now reflects his personality exactly- it’s all beige, brown, caramel, neutrals- into the trash with that silly red/white/blue stuff! There are a couple of neutral blue pillows, otherwise no color at all. And the dull brown drapes behind him during the speech just emphasize the souless of this man. The best display I’ve found on the net is at -horrors- MSNBC, where you can find several interviews with decorators about the renovation and good videos of the whole office. We are told, to my pleasure, that it didn’t cost us taxpayers, but was paid by donations (but that’s what BO thinks taxes are, right?)
The address was just an HG TV moment

I'm glad somebody watches these things
Adjoran (Diary) Wednesday, September 1st at 2:12AM EST (link)I can’t. I can’t abide the man. 2009 was enough, he was on every TV network all the time, there was no place to hide. I’ve had my fill of Obama if I live to be 110.
A clip on the news here and there I know I can’t escape, but I refuse to have him speaking longer than that on any media in my home.
Hear hear.

Occasionally there was a bob or weave of the head. BUT, nothing else moved. Not his shoulders, not his arms.
Not even his chest.
I have to ask, was this an “Obama-headroom” on the tube last night. I don’t think it was even a person in the chair. More like a combination of madame tussauds and Walt Disney animated wax figure.
Just watch in fast forward, you will see what I mean.
There's a Milli Vanilli quality showing there.

Fact Check: Blaming Iraq/Afghanistan for MAObama's Deficits
Ausonius (Diary) Wednesday, September 1st at 11:48AM EST (link)NewsMax has an article of interest today.
An excerpt:
OBAMA: “Unfortunately, over the last decade, we have not done what is necessary to shore up the foundation of our own prosperity. We have spent over a trillion dollars at war, often financed by borrowing from overseas. This, in turn, has shortchanged investments in our own people, and contributed to record deficits.”
THE FACTS: This is partly true. For sure, the costly Iraq and Afghanistan wars have contributed to the nation’s budget deficit — but not by as much as Obama suggests. The current annual deficit is now an estimated $1.5 trillion. But as recently as 2007, the budget deficit was just $161.5 billion. And that was years after war expenses were in place for both the Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts.
Most of the current deficit is due to the longest recession since the 1930s. It has seriously depressed tax revenues while increasing costs to the government — including social safety-net programs such as unemployment insurance and spending by both the outgoing Bush and incoming Obama administrations on stimulus programs and on bailouts of banks and automakers.

When is Limbaugh...
swami7774 (Diary) Wednesday, September 1st at 12:01PM EST (link)…NOT on vacation?
Anyone notice all the time he takes off? He’s become the Obama of talk show hosts.
I write that as one who’s been listening to him for 22 years. Not that he hasn’t earned the right to do what he wants, but it appears his interests lie elsewhere now.
Plus I can’t stand his substandard fill-in hosts.
Today, there is a name for the political doctrine that rejoices in scarcity of everything except government. The name is environmentalism.
Mark Steyn absolutely rocks
JSobieski (Diary) Wednesday, September 1st at 12:04PM EST (link)While I agree that Rush is out a lot, you can’t doubt that his heart is still very much in it. He is just determined to enjoy his life. To say that his “interests lie elsewhere” is a crock.
if that were the case, he could easily sell out . .. which is something he isn’t even tempted to do.
Remember, Rush could have all of media fawning over him for weeks if he wished. All he would need to do so is become an Obama supporter.
My rules of the road for primary season.
Rule #1: Vote for YOUR first choice in the primaries
Rule #2: Vote for the R in the general.
Rule #3: Don’t let anyone convince you to violate Rule #1 or Rule #2
Rule #4: When in a center-right argument, reaffirm Rules #1-#3–it will help us all to get along better.
Rule #5: If you are using the language of the left, you probably aren’t furthering conservativism
Rule #6: The priority is issues first, candidates second, and supporters third. Nobody is bigger than the issues. Conversely, if you spend your time focusing on supporters, you are wasting everyone’s time.
STOP THE MADNESS!
A reduction in the rate of spending increases is NOT a cut!
In-state tuition for illegals is NOT amnesty!
Requiring someone to pay their medical bills is NOT an individual mandate!
Reducing tax rates is NOT a tax increase!

Disagree on both counts
JSobieski (Diary) Wednesday, September 1st at 9:10PM EST (link)I think Steyn and Williams are great on radio as well, they just have a differnt style. They both have moments and topics that they can explain the conservative position more thoroughly than el Rushbo, which means that both are far above most politicians.

realskinny (Diary) Wednesday, September 1st at 12:50PM EST (link)Virtually all the TV we watch is recorded and we fast forward through the ONE’S appearances. The first time you saw this guy give a speech, you thought this clown doesn’t know what he’s talking about but he delivers a good speech. But then he gives another one and another. No matter what he’s talking about, it’s the same delivery. Whether it’s the few times there is soaring sentiment or a nicely constructed phrase, or he’s talking about buying ice cream, the voice, the gestures–or lack of them–is exactly the same. The only time he’s animated is when showing sneering disdain for some Americans.
George W. was a poor public speaker, but he gave better speeches. He actually cared about what he was saying and it showed. Obama acts like someone who has no real feelings and is just playing a part, like someone just pretending to be human. Steyn is on Rush right now.

benson1 Wednesday, September 1st at 9:10PM EST (link)Remember he was sick and rushed to hospital. He got married. He attended a funeral of a close friends son. So there’s 3 times that wouldn’t really be considered just a vacation. This last time would really be considered a vacation. I miss him to. The only stand in I like is Mark Levin the rest make me turn off the radio. It just goes to show no one can do Rush’s show like he can.
As for Obama, I turn off the TV or turn down the volume on the radio every time his voice or face is on. One of my favorite phrases for people I consider evil is “I hope they burn in Hell”. With Obama I figure that’s to good for him.
