1. The Democrats’ Disaster: More Americans Question Barack Obama’s Birth Story Than Support the Ground Zero Mosque

There is no great split in the United States of America on the issue of the Ground Zero Mosque. Sixty-eight percent of Americans oppose it.

In fact, using the same metric — CNN Opinion Research polling of 1,000 Americans — more American have doubts about Barack Obama’s birth story than support the mosque.

Consider that for a minute.

Delving into the data, 27% of Americans believe Barack Obama was probably not born in the United States and 29% support building the Ground Zero mosque. If we can call the former group “fringe,” surely we can call the latter group fringe as well.

Add to the 27% who think Obama was not born in the United States the 29% who think he was born in the United States, but are not definitely sure and more American have doubts about Barack Obama’s birth story than support the mosque.

Therein lies the great problem for the Democrats and why Barack Obama has locked in a Democratic disaster come November. In essence, the Democrats have lost the ability to connect with normal people at a moral level. The Democrats’ inability to address the question of “should the mosque be built” after answering the question of “could the mosque be built” is a cultural turning point for independents. Just as normal people ran screaming from the “San Francisco Democrats” 26 years ago, they will now reject the second coming of the San Francisco Democrats.

3. Reid’s new Angle on 9/11 mosque.

Sharron Angle went off on Harry Reid on the subject of the Ground Zero Mosque this morning – she takes the position that while people have the right to build a mosque there, they should show some delicacy of their own and build it somewhere else – and the Washington Post’s official paid left-wing shill, Greg Sargent, was practically licking his chops in response. He was of the opinion that making opposition to the President’s position – once we figure it out – a midterm issue would be a bad idea for Republicans, and he leaped on Angle’s opposition.

Then Harry Reid decided to agree with Angle.

4. Obamacare worth 17.5K dead women a year?

If you’ve missed the Avastin controversy, here’s a quick summary of it: Avastin is a general anti-cancer drug that got fast-tracked by the FDA a few years ago and is now prescribed to under 18 thousand women a year in the United States who suffer from the last stages of breast cancer. It doesn’t cure the cancer; it has side effects; and its beneficial effects are disputed… but the drug has its defenders as well as its detractors. However, now the FDA is contemplating reversing its approval of Avastin, which would probably mean the end of both its coverage by Medicare, and a subsidy program for low-income women.

Why?

Because then it won’t be covered by Medicare and the government can end the subsidy program for low-income women, of course.

5. Democrats Obfuscate

Politicians in general, and Democrats (most especially) in particular, don’t give a rip about the human condition of those to whom they pander to sate their lust for personal power and self-aggrandizement. Countless times over the past several generations we’ve been made to suffer their whims and fancies and cultural experimentation but, while targeted demographics have enjoyed short-term benefit…by and large the whole of the Country has ultimately been all the worse off for these things.

Not only do the left and right hands have no idea what the other is doing, it would appear they are not even part of the same body. What else explains the misguided notion that investing in Unions and propping up under-performing teachers might enjoy a greater return than feeding the poor? Further, why would Democrats think the best way to cure obesity would be by starving those very same poor people?

6. Senate Republicans Getting Played on the Russian-friendly Strategic Arms Treaty

The conservative movement has had to battle a lot over the last few years, for the number of terrible policies, pushed aggressively and relentlessly by Barak Obama, is truly staggering. It has caused us to triage out of necessity. Unfortunately, one national security issue that has received short shrift is the treaty the President negotiated with the Russians—his new START (“Strategic Arms Treaty”)—and if we’re not careful, it could very well slip through the Senate in the fall. The treaty needs more far more attention devoted to it, because it is so one-sided in favor of Russia (details below) that it strains one’s comprehension as to how the U.S. Senate could ratify it.

MSM is taking harsh tone with opponents of the cordoba project

earlgrey (Diary) Tuesday, August 17th at 9:04AM EST (link)

The majority of the country opposes this project, but I am reading where a number of MSM dinosaurs are criticizing opponents. Obviously this is insulting, but I wonder how it will impact the ratings of these programs. Is the goal of the MSM to be nothing but a democratic party pep rally?

The MSM is badly out of touch.

acat (Diary) Tuesday, August 17th at 9:13AM EST (link)

The MSM “stars” have been in or intermingled with the so-called “ruling class” for so long, they’re struggling to understand what’s happening to their business model.

My favorite current example – Channel 2 News in Chicago have dusted off two retired anchors from the ’70s to come back and do commentary pieces this fall.

I suppose the hope is that because they were once able to draw ratings away from other stations, they’ll now draw ratings away from the internet, but the fact is the news media has, by letting its’ bias be obvious, destroyed trust – and without trust, nobody’s buying the papers for anything other than bird cage liner and fishwrap.

No they aren't

Green_Lantern (Diary) Tuesday, August 17th at 10:04AM EST (link)

No, no, no, no, no. They are not out of touch. “Out of touch” implies that they are just insulated from reality, and it also implies that they don’t understand traditional American values.

But they *do* understand them. They categorically reject them, and they work to undermine them. They are complicit in the destruction of this country. Like intellectuals under Marxism, they know that they will get to “float” above the rabble in a communist society. They work together to decide what the rabble should be reading or hearing about today. It is not an accident. It is sinister.

They are enemies of the Republic.

Your hypothesis depends on one point.

acat (Diary) Tuesday, August 17th at 2:12PM EST (link)

News media is supposed to be, underneath, a business. Hearst is just one fortune made selling papers.

Your hypothesis runs into trouble with the idea that the business side is sufficiently delusional to believe they can keep it going.

In the short run, I believe it. In the middle run, *some* of these papers have to say “Enough!” and open their eyes.

Unless they are angling

for a permanent government subsidy. Remember, regardless of what the owners of those newspapers think, nearly *all* of their employees are the types who quit en masse when editorial decisions are made that are disagreeable to leftist sensibilities. And the pool of possible employees these outlets could draw from are of the same ilk, bred from our J schools to enter the biz in order to “make a difference”.

A cabal in ownership is bad enough. But what we’re seeing here is that the footsoldiers have their own cabal that reaches across corporate lines, alá JournoList.

And as I said somewhere around here...

acat (Diary) Tuesday, August 17th at 4:07PM EST (link)

(over here to be specific: http://www.redstate.com/erick/2010/08/17/the-democrats-disaster-more-americans-question-barack-obamas-birth-story-than-support-the-ground-zero-mosque/#comment-79154 )

…the MSM does seem to be smearing itself with government sap, hoping to turn itself into amber.

The problem being that becoming a government agency doesn’t work well for most businesses unless the bar to competition – and not even *direct* competition – is very high.

For example, it’s next to impossible for me to start my own electricity-distribution company – between the cost of stringing the wires, the OSHA inspectors, the “grid operator oversight”, etc. it’s a tough business to break into. There’s the possibility of a muni with a natural generation opportunity (hydro or geothermal, forex) to get into the business but .. unlikely for Joe Sixpack.

For another example, the airlines and highway system have effectively turned Amtrak into a national joke and/or disgrace. Rail service does not make a good government agency – and while there’s no *direct* competition, i.e. no Amtrak vs. Joe’s Rail Line, the indirect competition is dominant.

Since any schlub with a web server and a flipcam can report on what’s news, or what they think, I see the Mostly Stupid Media attempt to ossify as, at best, getting us some sort of government-owned USA Today, and most people getting their news off Facebook.

Great point

Green_Lantern (Diary) Tuesday, August 17th at 5:09PM EST (link)

The internet is really the great equalizer in both business and politics. Something else people are finding is that with the opportunities that the internet affords both the internet entrepreneur (me) and the citizen journalist, what good is a college degree unless you’re going into medicine? The more people that figure that out, the better. I am less concerned about an American BBC as the days go by. But it *does* aggravate the heck out of me.

Thanks Acat (I love cats) and Lantern. I enjoyed your insight. nt.

Anybody hear about yesterday's visit by our Dictator In Training Pants to Los Angeles ?

Kenny Solomon (Diary) Tuesday, August 17th at 9:35AM EST (link)

To paraphrase ‘The Great One’:

Jim Hoft……. Gateway Pundit…….. Go !

———

L.A. Outraged After Obama Fundraiser Shuts Down Traffic For Hours.

Obama traveled to Los Angeles last night for a fundraiser at the home of a wealthy Hollywood producer and managed to pi$$ off the entire city after locking up traffic for hours.

Of course, the fact that this administration once again treated ordinary Americans like complete peons should surprise no one.

——————

Understand what happened.

POTUS shows up at some Hollywood donor’s home to suck more campaign money out of those leftist freaks.

(Travel at our expense, of course – not reimbursable by the DNC or anyone else, for he is Teh Won.)

POTUS – without question – is a security exercise in necessity – of that I agree.

However…… At some magical point in time, the entire roadway system in a very large surrounding area was frozen for the entire time POTUS was there.

No movement.

None.

Officials knew he was going to be there.

No advance communication to the public as to re-routing.

I can’t wait until they really start throwing their weight around.

Let's Abolish Fund-Raising! (the term, anyway.) How About "Cash-Raising" Instead?

minncon (Diary) Tuesday, August 17th at 10:34AM EST (link)

I mean really… “fundraising” sounds so dignified and harmless. It sounds like when I used to sell $1 chocolate bars for my baseball league.

Perhaps if we start calling these political events what they are – “cash-raising” – we’d more accurate communicate the nature of these private confabs.

“When I was crossing the border into Canada, they asked if I had any firearms with me. I said, “Well, what do you need?” -Steven Wright

minncon, what about these

tngal (Diary) Tuesday, August 17th at 2:27PM EST (link)

titles for fundraisers? The lefties could use the terms: Dollar Suckers;
pocket diving or ( my fav) A Bengamin Begger.

Now for conservatives we call these fundraisers;
Shareholders meeting
Dinner with the boss
Associate reunion

(these will help to remind the candidates when they get in office that they are still employed by the citizens that put them there.)

Valley Center, Kansas - Man Arrested Over Political Yard Sign.

Kenny Solomon (Diary) Tuesday, August 17th at 10:46AM EST (link)

“Dear Valley Center: I did not buy lakefront property. Fix this problem. This is what I pay taxes for. PS: Joel, this means you.”.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/38634487

When City Administrator Joel Pile saw the sign, West was arrested and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on a criminal charge of defamation. He spent the night behind bars and is now free on a $10,000 bond.

The controversy over one man’s complaint about what he calls his lakefront property continues to develop. The homeowner says the American Civil Liberties Union is getting involved.

Getting to the bottom of the ACLU vs Valley Center KS story...

Steve Maley (Diary) Tuesday, August 17th at 7:32PM EST (link)

He’s facing criminal threat and battery charges stemming from an altercation with his elderly neighbor in early July. Police said West pushed the man to the ground and made threatening remarks. Police said West claimed the man was on his property.

West was arrested on the charges, but was released from jail until the District Attorney’s Office could file formal charges and issue a warrant. Valley Center police served the warrant on West July 28, arresting him and booking him into jail, where he bonded out. Sheriff’s and police records show that West was neither arrested nor booked into jail on the criminal defamation charge. He was issued a criminal complaint and notice to appear in court while he was in jail on the criminal threat and battery warrant.

Thank You NRCC (I mean it)

tngal (Diary) Tuesday, August 17th at 11:32AM EST (link)

Don’t say it very often, but…the National republican congressinal commitee has done good this time. They are reserving ad time in several races and one is non other than MI-01. The Dan Benishek race. Good to see they’re actively going for this seat.

Now shame on you nrcc…..Wish you would have seen fit to dump some in my TN -04..but oooo noooo. Lincoln Davis is beatable and Scott Desjarlais has the support of the republican voters. You better pony up in this race.

There are quite a few districts they’re dumping money in. Politico’s got the current list if you’re interested in a particular race.

Well, there goes the soap opera. It was fun. Blago convicted on One, count it, one count but jury hangs on the other 23 others. There was a chance O could be sucked into this Chicago maelstrom but …nope, just out of reach.
