The effort to repeal Obamacare continues to gain steam. The King discharge petition, backed by Heritage Action, now has 94 Members on board. But it is still a wonder why it is taking so long for the other Members–both Republican and the Democrats who claim to oppose Obamacare–to sign? Every time these Members vote, they have an opportunity to go and sign on the dotted line. So why the delay?
Congress is headed into the July recess, and tonight is the last opportunity for Members to sign on to the campaign for full repeal for more than a week. We need to continue the momentum by having the stragglers sign up tonight. If not, next week, when they are home in their districts, it will be time to call them out by name for why they are don’t seem very committed to the cause.
A special note to you Blue Dogs: Why yes, we’ll be beating you up during recess for your lack of signatures. I’m looking at you two Jim Marshall and John Barrow.

Put up or shut up
DerKrieger (Diary) Thursday, July 1st at 10:28PM EST (link)This is a great opportunity to separate the talkers from the doers. I am SICK and tired of politicians who talk out of both sides of their mouths. Anyone who called for repeal and yet refuses to sign either discharge petition must be called on the carpet. They must be forced to explain themselves. The GOP has a long history of enabling the Leftists and this may prove to be just one more example. Only true conservatives can be trusted.
“In questions of power, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution.” – Thomas Jefferson
“I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents.” – James Madison
Whenever the legislators endeavor to take away and destroy the property of the people, or to reduce them to slavery under arbitrary power, they put themselves into a state of war with the people, who are thereupon absolved from any further obedience.” — John Locke, 1690
No time for going wobbly
wilfranc Friday, July 2nd at 7:29AM EST (link)I am reminded of Margaret Thatcher and that we could use a few prodding the weak kneed right now. If not now, when?
What the establishment GOP doesn’t understand is that it is not just citizen anger, but that the citizens are realizing they outrank members of congress; individually they can’t do much, but the collective is getting restless.
Yep, I get the feeling the insulated world of Washington politics has prevented Repubs from seeing and understanding they are the only thing between America 1776 and a bad impression.
Thanks for your stand EE!
fpete13527 (Diary) Thursday, July 1st at 11:08PM EST (link)Thanks for staying with this. The GOP who haven’t signed the KING Discharge should be looked at as having zero integrity or courage…zero.
As for the Blue Dogs….are there any? We”ll see.
This is best link I have for most current signees. It probably has been updated.

Call Lamar Smith
popdaddy Friday, July 2nd at 10:41AM EST (link)Lamar Smith, TX-21, 202-225-4236, seems to be missing from the list of members who have signed petition. Robert Fisher is the assigned voice mail extension Smith’s office will transfer you to for discussion why Lamar has not signed petition.

Reality vs. Fiction
Swamp_Yankee (Diary) Thursday, July 1st at 11:13PM EST (link)Real World:
None of these measures matter.
Fake World:
We start a GOP civil war because they pretend they do.
Real World:
The only GOP candidate who can win Delaware voted against ObamaCare. And is a vital vote for repeal.
Fake World:
Lets beat our chest over some irrelevant measure (it needs Obama’s John Hancock, so it will never happen), while we destroy a real senate vote for real repeal.
Castle actually voted against ObamaCare.
No sense. No sense. Absolutely no sense.
no doubt
rdelbov Thursday, July 1st at 11:20PM EST (link)no doubt this goes nowhere.
I am not sure if this is the best tactic.
I do not beat up fellow GOP types over tactics. So if others have another plan I am willing to listen to them.
The GOP voted to a person against Obamacare-there is not the votes to repeal nor will be President sign it. I am all for scoring political points but do not think this discharge petition is a plan to repeal it.
Dang it..
dontell Thursday, July 1st at 11:29PM EST (link)See who signs it and go from there…keep the pressure on!

Erick, I have been asking this question for months now; where are the Republicans in challenging this man’s agenda?
They are big on talk, but not on action. I know Michael Steele is a big problem for the GOP. He has done so much backtracking, obfuscating, and apologizing that no one really knows where he stands.
But, what of the rest? What is it that is causing so much anxiety over taking a stand? Could you, or someone else who has their ear to the ground, let us know what the reasons are. What are they afraid of?
I think a lot of us would like to know.
Thanks for your help, and keep up the fight!
Everyone call their congressman
euskalherria Friday, July 2nd at 1:15AM EST (link)I just made a call to my congressman, Mike Simpson (ID-2) and left a message. He’s a Republican but not on the list. Unfortunately, he’s been pretty squishy on some issues (ie SCHIP and bank bailout) but he was one of the guys holding a sign on the capitol balcony saying Kill the Bill the day it passed. Well, Congressman, let’s Kill the Law now….
I really think this is something we need push. I have family calling Blue Dog’s Walt Minnick (ID-01) and Jim Mattheson in (UT-2) that live in their district. Raul Labrador and Morgan Philpot (their respective challengers) need to make this an issue this week.
"we’ll be beating you up"
redtillimdead (Diary) Friday, July 2nd at 2:38AM EST (link)Oh nos! Tea Partiers are dangerous! Erick MUST have meant we will physically abuse members of Congress over the recess. Thats the story that’ll be on MSNBC by morning.
Anyway, is there a list of who has signed?
Nancy Pelosi can kiss my asstroturf.
The King petition is the only valid discharge petition
Adjoran (Diary) Friday, July 2nd at 4:30AM EST (link)The other bill hasn’t been in committee long enough to qualify for discharge – it’s just a CYA diversion, at best.
Mr. Erickson, thank you!
