Hate crimes have skyrocketed against Jews following the slaughter of 1,400 people in Israel by Hamas on October 7th. Massive pro-terrorist protests are occurring across the globe, with antisemitic calls for genocide becoming all too common. Meanwhile, the national press is obsessed with repeating Hamas-sourced casualty numbers in order to push the idea that Israel needs to disengage, leaving the terror government intact and capable of striking again.
So what's London Mayor Sadiq Khan worried about? He's worried about "Islamophobia."
In times of great crisis, we must never forget that we are more bonded by our shared values than divided by our differences.
— Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan (@MayorofLondon) November 1, 2023
This is London. The greatest, most diverse city in the world. There will always be those who seek to separate us—we must not allow them to succeed. 2/2
"Won't anyone think of the Muslims," Khan cries as the homes and businesses of Jews are literally being tagged with the Star of David while Jewish students are being attacked and harassed on college campuses. And that's just the tame stuff. Never mind the actual physical assaults and the outright murder happening in the name of exterminating the Jews, specifically in the Middle East.
No, we need to worry about "Islamophobia" because we always need to worry about "Islamophobia." Islamists can literally kill 3,000 people, and the chief concern will still be "Islamophobia."
So is there any basis for Khan's concern? If there is, I can't find it. FBI statistics show that antisemitic hate crimes occur at a five times higher rate than anti-Muslim hate crimes. In fact, anti-Muslim hate crimes rank just a few percentage points above anti-Catholic hate crimes, and when was the last time you heard the mainstream press wring its hands about "Cathophobia?"
Even putting that aside and only focusing on what's happening in the United States, antisemitic attacks far outstrip attacks on Muslims motivated by bigotry. In 2021, for example, the FBI recorded five times as many anti-Jewish hate crimes compared to anti-Muslim hate crimes. To the extent that Islamophobia exists, it is nowhere near the threat of antisemitism. In fact, it barely outstrips anti-Catholic hate crimes (9.6 percent vs. 6.1 percent).
Frankly, I'm sick and tired of hearing about supposed "Islamophobia." When bad actors in the Muslim world lash out, the first concern should be those who are actually being victimized. The left-wing intersectional hierarchy need not apply. Khan has run London into the ground. Crime has skyrocketed and illegal migration has overwhelmed resources, never mind the economic issues. The last thing he needs to worry about is a problem that isn't even much of a problem statistically.
I would hope the last month will be a wake-up call to voters in London and throughout the United Kingdom. Is this really what you want to be? Because the current path looks bleak.
