The Tennessee Senate has now passed the new maps as well, by a vote of 25-5.

The Tennessee House of Representatives has passed their 2026 redistricting maps by a vote of 62 to 24. As RedState reported on Wednesday, Tennessee Republicans released their proposed congressional map, which would eliminate the state's sole Democrat district. This makes the Tennessee map feature nine Republican districts and ZERO Democrat districts. 

Suffice to say, Democrats have not taken this well, but stopped short of chaining themselves to their legislative desks. As the vote was being cast and finalized, Democrat lawmakers and protesters in the gallery yelled, screamed, "No!" and "Shame!" and broke into profanity and chants. TN State Troopers had to handcuff some people and physically remove them from the gallery.

The United States Supreme Court decision in Callais v. Louisiana determined that gerrymandering of congressional districts on the basis of race alone is unconstitutional. Their decision precipitated the domino effect of other Southern states calling special legislative sessions to review their maps to conform them to the SCOTUS decision. Louisiana suspended its May 16 primary for congressional seats, while Alabama, Mississippi, and South Carolina are in the process of making moves to conform their maps ahead of their primaries.

The new redistricted map now moves to the state Senate, where it is expected to be approved. Once approved, it moves to Gov. Bill Lee's desk for his signature.
