WHAT'S ON TAP?

Today on Capitol Hill...

Wednesday's shaping up to be a busy day on Capitol Hill, with multiple hearings set — not least of which is the House Oversight and Accountability hearing titled “A Hearing with the President of EcoHealth Alliance, Dr. Peter Daszak.” On the off chance you're not familiar with that name, I assure you, we've written on him extensively here at RedState. That one's undoubtedly going to be worth the watch

Other hearings set for Wednesday include:

  • Senate Budget — Hearings to examine Big Oil's evolving efforts to avoid accountability for climate change
  • House Judiciary — Hearing on the Weaponization of the Federal Government
  • House Foreign Affairs — From 1979 to 2024: Evaluating the Taiwan Relations Act and Assessing the Future of U.S.-Taiwan Relations

Full Court Press...

No court for former President Donald Trump on Wednesday — it's the regular Wednesday break for the Manhattan trial. Oh...but it's not a break for Judge Juan Merchan. He'll be busy with the pre-trial proceeding for former Trump advisor Steve Bannon in the "We Build the Wall" case, in which Bannon is accused of defrauding donors.

Meanwhile, disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein is due in court (in the same courthouse) Wednesday afternoon for re-arraignment following the April 25 overturning of his 2020 rape conviction.

MORNING MUSING

Holy cannoli, we made it to May. We're one-third of the way through 2024. One suspects the fun and hijinks have only just begun, though, as we roll toward summer sporting shades of '68. Mixed emotions on that, as that also happens to be the year of my birth. (Yes, I'm old.) We can hope for less mayhem, but I wouldn't bank on it.
