Biden Admin Coordinating With Anti-Israel Group to Isolate West Bank Jews

The Biden administration makes mouth noises about supporting Israel, which nation is not only a solid American ally but is also the only nation in its region with a government chosen by the citizens in open elections. But when you look into the actions of the Biden administration regarding Israel, you get a much different picture. In the latest such bit of evidence to drop, we see that the Biden administration has been coordinating efforts with an anti-Israel group, Democracy for the Arab World Now (DAWN) to isolate Israeli Jews living in the West Bank.

Senior Biden administration officials have been coordinating since at least early 2022 with an outside anti-Israel group to isolate Jewish Israelis living in the West Bank, internal government emails show.

The previously unreported emails show top officials at both the State and Defense Departments fielding concerns from Democracy for the Arab World Now (DAWN), a human rights group that is highly critical of the Israeli government and has lobbied the Biden administration to cut off military aid to the Jewish state.

It is ironic in the extreme that a group calling itself "Democracy for the Arab World Now" is campaigning against the only country in the region with a democratic government, a country whose Arab Muslim citizens have full civil rights, including being able to vote and serve in Israel's Parliament, the Knesset. And they are influencing the feckless Biden administration's policies in the Middle East.

At the time, DAWN sparked an internal push at both departments to stop American officials from engaging with Jewish Israelis living in the West Bank and other contested areas of Jerusalem. DAWN is leveraging its clout with the Biden administration to push fresh sanctions on Israeli military units for alleged human rights crimes, having provided the State Department with a list of Israelis to punish. DAWN's anti-Israel lobbying campaign traces back to at least 2022, with the internal government emails shining new light on the level of access and influence it peddles inside the Biden administration.

It's not at all clear how the Biden administration can sanction an individual Israeli Defense Forces unit, but reality has never been a stricture for this administration.

Here's the onion:

DAWN and other anti-Israel advocacy groups recently provided the State Department with a list of Israelis they believe should be sanctioned for human rights abuses.

Reed Rubinstein, America First Legal's senior counselor and director of oversight and investigations, said the emails paint a disturbing picture about the Biden administration's coordination with outside groups that are highly critical of Israel.

DAWN is free to advocate for what they like, of course. But, interestingly, they point fingers at a "list of Israelis." Here are a few recent (post-Oct 7th) articles from their website:

If you scroll back through their list of articles mentioning Hamas, back to October 7th of last year, there is scarcely a mention of the Hamas attacks on Israel; only calls for "restraint" on the part of Israel and the United States, and calls for sanctions against Israel for replying against one of the most heinous, atrocity-laden attacks in the century - so far.

This is not a group the United States government should be working with. This is not a group that should be influencing policy.
