Hang on while I sing a few verses of “Endless Love” over the loop of madness that is Trump’s man-crush on Russian President Vladimir Putin.

I don’t know what Putin did or said in those brief meetings he had with Trump while in Vietnam (You know, the place Trump had his rich daddy buy him deferments from, when it mattered), but he must have put out some powerful pheromones, because Trump is a puddle, at this point.

To keep up, so far, he’s stood on foreign soil, met with the leader of a hostile foreign nation (two, actually), and not only congratulated one leader for taking advantage of the U.S., but threw the U.S. intelligence community under the bus, after talking to the other.

Basically, when standing against tried and hardened leaders, Trump is not the strongman his loyalists like to make him out to be. He’s a creampuff.

Putin blows in his ear and Trump loses all resolve.

We can just about guess what Trump and Putin did talk about, based on the way Trump is wriggling and whining, now.

Sanctions.

Trump hasn’t called for an end to sanctions on Russia, but he’s saying everything just short of that.

“What I believe is that we have to get to work. And I think everybody understood this that heard the answer.  We have to get to work to solve Syria, to solve North Korea, to solve Ukraine, to solve terrorism,” Trump said in Vietnam.

“And, you know, people don’t realize Russia has been very, very heavily sanctioned,” he continued. “They were sanctioned at a very high level, and that took place very recently. It’s now time to get back to healing a world that is shattered and broken.”

Except that the object of Trump’s affection and admiration benefit by keeping the world shattered and broken.

The very reason for meddling in the 2016 election, as well as all the other social media tricks Russian troll farms engaged in was for the purpose of ripping up the U.S. from the inside out, sowing the seeds of chaos.

Except Trump can’t be convinced of that, or at least, can’t be convinced that that’s not a good thing.

Trump said Saturday he won’t argue with Russian President Putin when he says he didn’t meddle in the presidential race.

“Every time he sees me he says, ‘I didn’t do that,’ and I really believe that when he tells me that, he means it,” Trump said Saturday.

Guys, Trump really, really wants to get back together with Russia.

“And I feel that having Russia in a friendly posture, as opposed to always fighting with them, is an asset to the world and an asset to our country, not a liability,” he said.

You don’t really get Russia in a friendly posture.

You have the option of standing up to them, or the “posture” of rolling over and offering them your underbelly, yellow and soft.

We know Trump’s posture, already.

Trump added that Hillary Clinton, former secretary of State, wanted to “get back together with Russia.”

“President Obama wanted to get along with Russia, but the chemistry wasn’t there.  Getting along with other nations is a good thing, not a bad thing — believe me. It’s a good thing, not a bad thing.”

I don’t think there’s any nation, anywhere, who wouldn’t want to “get along” if that were possible. The problem is the nature of humanity is that somebody always wants to be on top before they can “get along.”

Trump has no ability to grasp that. He’s a man with no ideological or principled mooring, and a flaming, out of control desire to be seen as a friend and ally by a corrupt, dangerous regime.
