New Poll: Renewed Support For Trump's Travel Ban

Well, chalk up a win.

Out of a host of stumbles and losses, there is new support for Trump’s travel ban, according to a recent Politico/Morning Consult poll.

The poll found that 60 percent of America’s voters are all in with the State Department’s new guidelines for restricting entry.

The new guidelines state that anyone from the six Muslim countries that are on the travel ban list must prove they have a close family relationship in the U.S. before being allowed in.

Another 28 percent reject the new version of a travel ban.

A large majority, 84 percent of Republicans, supports the restrictions, while just 9 percent oppose them.

Democrats are split on the issue, with 41 percent supporting the ban and 46 percent opposing it.

The poll question does not specifically mention President Trump or his executive orders on immigration.

This was the Trump administration’s Supreme Court win in June. The court will also be hearing an appeal of a lower court ruling that froze the ban.

The compromise, which narrows entry to those with “close family” already in the U.S. means parents, children, siblings, spouses, or sons- and daughters-in-law.

It’s not the full restriction that many wanted, but some are warming to the idea of getting something in place quickly, in order to begin the screening process.

There were 1,989 respondents, all registered voters, for the poll. It was conducted from June 29 to June 30, and has a margin of error of 2 points.
