It’s because he doesn’t understand what he’s doing.

For those who keep comparing Donald Trump to Ronald Reagan, you can stop, now.

Trump isn’t even in office and he’s already trying to rush the nation back into a Cold War scenario, racing against Russia to see who can gather the most toys.

I get that our nuclear capabilities have been cut under Obama. That was his goal, but loudly and arrogantly blurting out intentions to bulk up our nuclear arsenal is kind of what North Korea’s arrogant little tyrant, Kim Jong-Un does.

So how did we get to this place?

The brief history of the week, as reported in Reuters today:

Trump had alarmed non-proliferation experts on Thursday with a Twitter post that said the United States “must greatly strengthen and expand its nuclear capability until such time as the world comes to its senses regarding nukes.”

MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski spoke with Trump on the phone and asked him to expand on his tweet. She said he responded: “Let it be an arms race. We will outmatch them at every pass and outlast them all.”

I’m sure nobody at the Kremlin heard about that, though. It’s not like they follow his tweets or read any American news over there.

Do they?

Apparently, the comments excited uranium companies and their investors.

Shares of uranium producers and a nuclear fuel technology company have jumped on Trump’s comments with Uranium Resources Inc, Uranium Energy Corp, Cameco Corp and Lightbridge Corp all trading higher on Friday.

Trump’s tweet came on the same day that Russian president Vladimir Putin remarked that Russia needed to boost its nuclear forces.

In his year-end news conference in Moscow on Friday, Putin said Trump’s comment on Wednesday was not out of line and that he did not consider the United States to be a potential aggressor.

Frenemies, then?

Newly appointed Trump White House Spokesman, Sean Spicer, sought to reassure the nation on several Friday morning news programs that there would be no nuclear arms race, mainly because of Trump’s alleged ability to make deals that would ensure Russia and China would decide not to build up their own nuclear capabilities.

“He’s going to ensure that other countries get the message that he’s not going to sit back and allow that,” Spicer, who was named this week as White House spokesman for the president-elect, told NBC. “And what’s going to happen is they will come to their senses, and we will all be just fine.”

I’m sure all the creditors that were left holding the bag, after some of Trump’s great deals fell through are hugging their children a little tighter, today.
