Yesterday Donald Trump blamed a shadowy group of globalists, media organizations, and bankers for everything that ails us. As early as today, the Wall Street Journal reports, we’ll learn more about the folks behind this supposed conspiracy. Trump will say the group includes Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim, a large shareholder in the New York Times, which was at the vanguard of the GropeGate stories:
Donald Trump will broaden his attack against the media to hit globalism and the Clinton Foundation by charging that Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim is part of a biased coalition working in collusion with the Clinton campaign and its supporters to generate news reports of decades-old allegations from several women.
Mr. Trump, defiant and enraged in speeches on Thursday, flatly denied charges he had made inappropriate advances on the women over the past three decades.
“What they say is false and slanderous in virtually every respect,” he said at a rally in West Palm Beach, Fla., on Thursday, the day after the New York Times and other news outlets published accounts of women who said he had fondled or kissed them against their will.
As early as Friday, Mr. Trump is planning to claim that Mr. Slim, as a shareholder of New York Times Co. and donor to the Clinton Foundation, has an interest in helping Hillary Clinton’s campaign, according to a Trump adviser.
The fingerprints of Trump campaign CEO and ex-Breitbart chairman Steve Bannon are all over this attack. Here’s a passage from a Breitbart article from February detailing a discussion between Bannon and Trump about Slim:
“Carlos Slim came in and I believe he now owns up to 15 percent [of the New York Times]. It’s an open secret in the newsroom that Carlos Slim is the guy that’s going to bail out the Times,” Bannon said, noting that some believe he “was looking for a platform to influence American policy.”
“Well, certainly, people should know about it,” Trump responded. “They may be doing the work of somebody else. We really don’t know that. Certainly a very rich Mexican owns a big chunk of the paper and has a lot of power over the paper.”
See, the problem is not that Trump is a pig who openly boasted about grabbing women’s privates without their consent, and about bursting into rooms where women and teenagers were dressing so he could see them naked — all of which ended up getting corroborated by multiple witnesses. No! That’s not the problem at all!
The problem is [voice lowers to a whisper] that Mexican billionaire.
And here I thought Trump was going to be blaming The Jews.
Maybe that will happen Monday.
