Kamala Confirms That She's Living an Episode of 'Veep'

Kamala Harris finally did an “interview” on Wednesday.

It wasn’t a real interview, it was a softball excursion on Stephen Colbert’s show where she could guarantee she wasn’t going to be pressed on any question. It did look like she got her hair done beforehand if that counts as “preparation.”

But although it was a cushy interview, Kamala still sounded like she was struggling to define her job, just like the character in the HBO show “Veep” that Colbert asked her about.

“One of the themes of the show is that her character, Selina Meyer, is frustrated by the sometimes vague duties of the role. It’s a high constitutional office but does not describe what you’re supposed to be doing. Does that ring true? Like, what’s the actual role on a daily basis as you have found it?” Colbert asked.

She didn’t truly answer that question, even though he made it as non-threatening as possible. But one part of the role is to be a suck-up, which she attempted to do there. “I have the great privilege of serving with Joe Biden, who is president of the United States,” she responded.

But that isn’t what you do in your role. Colbert tried again, even praising her further empty answer, but there wasn’t much of an answer about what she did to be found. Just more sucking up.

“Does he understand what it’s like to be vice president?” Colbert then asked.

“He does, he does,” Harris replied. “He really is a true partner and he understands that job. And remember, we came in during the height of the pandemic. And so much of the work was about okay, we’ve got to cover a lot of bases and let’s figure out between us how we can do it. But he’s an extraordinary leader and I wish people could see what I see because there’s only one person who sits behind that Resolute Desk. And the decisions that person has to make are the decisions that nobody else in the country can make. And he’s an extraordinary leader. He really is.”

“That’s an excellent answer and, uh, the question was what’s the job of the vice president,” Colbert grinned, causing Harris to burst out laughing. “And your answer is part of the job, I’m guessing.”

Do you think if she says he’s an “extraordinary leader” enough, she’ll believe it?

Look at the forced smile here that she pastes on as she says that if Joe Biden runs, she will be running with him.

She hopes. She’s gotten thrown under the bus by the Biden folks allegedly leaking things to the media against her multiple times, so that remains to be seen whether simply sucking up cancels that out.

Part of the problem is that she just seems lost every time she’s talking, which is why she’s become known for her word salads, like the one that she did for Colbert.

“I think that the concerns are based on what we should all be concerned about, but the solutions have to be, and include, what we are doing in terms of going forward in terms of investments,” she said. Alrighty, now. I’m sure whatever that means will reassure those leftist protesters.

What happened to her role at the border? Where was that? What had she been going to fix anything there? She said that she went to the Munich Security conference to declare that Russia had committed “crimes against humanity” by invading Ukraine. But what about the job that she’s supposed to be doing for this country?

When Colbert asked her if the gaffe-ridden “Veep” was an accurate portrayal of the office, Harris admitted, “There are bits of it that are actually quite accurate.” She then related a story that seems emblematic of their time in office so far and that it may be worse than we thought. They are completely ignorant when it comes to policy, but they’re ignorant of everything else as well.

She said one of her staff told her that he wanted to do something nice for her because it was cold and he wanted to light the fireplace. But he forgot to open the flue. So the Secret Service wouldn’t let her go back to the office because there was smoke everywhere.

What a scary thought that these guys are in charge. Unfortunately, this is pretty much how they deal with every issue. Is there any wonder that the Biden administration is one big mess?
