New Poll: Republican Confirmed as Underdog in Tennessee Senate Race

In a year when the Senate is supposed to be the Republicans’ bright spot, starting out behind in a state like Tennessee is terrible news for the party.

We covered the first poll of the year between Democrat Phil Bredesen and Republican Marsha Blackburn. But now Mason-Dixon polled the race and came up with the same results.

Blackburn is losing. Mason-Dixon only has Blackburn down 3 points, not the 10 of Middle Tennessee State University, but when every poll goes one way, we have to conclude it’s a problem for her.

Bredesen is a popular former Governor who has won statewide in the past. Blackburn is a member of the House of Representatives and never won statewide in the past. Further, this is a bad year for Republicans.

Bob Corker currently holds the seat. If Bresdesen wins, then that’s the kind of upset that could change control of the Senate.
