BREAKING: Gary Johnson Claims Mitt Romney Is Considering Endorsing Him (VIDEO)

With 2012 Republican Nominee Mitt Romney previously coming out against Donald Trump, while also ruling out an independent run for President, many have been left wondering what Romney might do next in 2016.

According to the Libertarian Party nominee and former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson, Romney’s next step could be an endorsement of the Libertarian ticket.

In this most recent CNN interview, Weld also brings up the point that some in the Bush family have endorsed the Libertarian ticket and hopes former Florida Governor Jeb Bush will endorse the ticket too.

Romney had previously told CNN‘s Wolf Blitzer in June that he really liked the Libertarian ticket of Gary Johnson and, more specifically, former Massachusetts Governor Bill Weld:

“If Bill Weld were at the top of the ticket, it would be very easy for me to vote for Bill Weld for president,” Romney said. “So I’ll get to know Gary Johnson better and see if he’s someone who I could end up voting for. That’s something which I’ll evaluate over the coming weeks and months.”

An endorsement of the ticket would not seem too farfetched, as Mitt Romney has also been incredibly critical of Donald Trump:

“I don’t want to see trickle-down racism,” Romney said in an interview here in a suite overlooking the Wasatch Mountains, where he is hosting his yearly ideas conference. “I don’t want to see a president of the United States saying things which change the character of the generations of Americans that are following. Presidents have an impact on the nature of our nation, and trickle-down racism, trickle-down bigotry, trickle-down misogyny, all these things are extraordinarily dangerous to the heart and character of America.”

Regardless of endorsements, the Libertarian ticket needs to make it onto the debate stage in order to really have a chance at influencing this election. The most recent polls have had Johnson/Weld hovering between 10-12%, just shy of the 15% required to participate in the main debates. However, with plenty of time left to go before the first debate on October 4th, it is possible that Johnson and Weld could really make an impact. The question is, will Mitt Romney play a part in helping them, or is this just wishful thinking on the part of the Libertarian ticket? Only time will tell.
