Not everyone in the Green Party is behind  recount fundraising scheme.  Dr. Margaret Flowers, the 2016 Green Party candidate for U.S. Senate in Maryland has written a screed about how Stein’s actions are moving the Greens too close to “the corruption of two money-based parties” and don’t reflect the values of the Green Party.

The Green Party cannot build the political power necessary for the transformative changes we need by allying with two capitalist parties that serve the interests of the wealthy. That is why it is imperative that the Green Party is independent of those parties. We stay independent to give people an alternative to the corruption of two money-based parties. Greens reject donations from corporations and their political action committees to ensure we are accountable to the people and so that the people’s agenda is not superseded by the corporate agenda.

That strategy seems to be working fantastically so far. Even in left leaning Maryland, Flowers couldn’t muster enough support to even be included in debates with the the two “money-based” candidates. You may recall how she crashed one debate and was escorted out by security.

Flowers calls out Democrats for their “undemocratic” behavior during the campaign. This is presumably a reference to revelations that the DNC colluded with the Hillary Clinton campaign and  worked against Bernie Sanders’ campaign. She urges Greens not to create alliances with them.

As a candidate, Dr. Stein has the right to call for a recount. However, we urge the GPUS to distance itself from any appearance of support for either Democrats or Republicans. We are well aware of the undemocratic actions taken during the primaries by the DNC and the Clinton campaign. Greens cannot be perceived to be allied with such a party.

That perception is probably going to exist regardless of what Stein does regarding vote recounts. Much of the Democrats’ constituency—evidenced by the level of support for Sanders—is as far left as many Green Party candidates. As RedState’s Streiff wrote: “…ultimately all the Greens are Democrats with bad personal hygiene who failed economics and history.” The bulk of the money raised by Stein for her recount effort is most certainly from Democrat sources who are disgruntled by Donald Trump’s victory.

Flowers’ statement is co-signed by a long list of fellow Green Party members. In order to add your signature to the statement though you are required to provide your email address, so it looks like Flowers herself is using the recount controversy to build her email list which she will certainly use to raise funds. Everyone’s an opportunist.
