The Trump transition team engaged in a little bait-and-switch this morning. On the daily briefing call, Spokesman said that former Vice President Al Gore would meet with Ivanka Trump about non-specific climate issues, and that he would not be meeting with the President-elect.
When Gore emerged from Trump Tower, though, he announced that “the bulk of the time” was with Donald Trump.

He said, according to a pool report:
“I had a lengthy and very productive session with the President-elect….It was a sincere search for areas of common ground. I had a meeting beforehand with Ivanka Trump. The bulk of the time was with the President-elect, Donald Trump. I found it an extremely interesting conversation, and to be continued, and I’m just going to leave it at that.”
Trump, who said during the campaign that he believed “man-made climate change is a ‘hoax’ perpetuated by China” and Gore supposedly have radically different views on climate and government’s role in environmental issues. If Gore’s views are allowed to have a voice in Trump environmental policy, Kellyanne Conway will definitely be hearing from the “grassroots.”
Earlier in the day, it was reported that it would just be Ivanaka meeting with Gore. As Kimberly pointed out at that time, that was bad enough. The only reason to meet with Gore is to entertain his alarmist position, and it’s one that Trump is already softening to.
