Time to put a stop to out-of-control Washington

In last night’s debate, you might have noticed a number of topics arise that are all variations on the same common theme: An out-of-control federal government, run by overreaching, out-of-control Washington, D.C., insiders.

Whether we’re talking about the EPA’s assault on my state, Texas, over pollution rules, or the National Labor Relations Board and Department of Justice’s meddling in South Carolina’s business affairs and election laws, or even Obamacare, the issue is the same. Under this administration, just like its predecessors, power has increasingly been centralized and hoarded in the nation’s capital, leaving government bigger, weightier, more cumbersome– and very, very far removed from the people it purports to serve.

It’s time for that to end.

As I said last night, when I am President of the United States, the states are going to have substantially more rights and the authority to take care of their own business. The federal government, and Washington insiders like several of those who stood on the debate stage with me last night, will have their powers—as well as their footprint—shrunk. Washington will become far less consequential in your life. It will be a vast improvement over the status quo.

But to accomplish this, we will need to take a number of radical steps.

We can start by overhauling the EPA so it takes account of economic concerns in its decision-making, and by eliminating entire agencies of the federal government.

Shrinking the powers and the footprint of the federal government and Washington insiders will also involve establishing a part-time Congress, cutting congressional sessions, and bringing staff numbers and salaries down by 50 percent. Congress will be more like everybody else, and less like the body that earns a stunning 84 percent disapproval number from those of us who, unlike them, must live under and with the laws they pass every day.

I will also give taxpayers the option of a simpler, flatter and fairer 20 percent personal tax rate, and institute that same rate for companies—both measures that will help bring an end to the IRS as we know it.

Bailouts and earmarks must stop, and as President, I will pursue a Balanced Budget Amendment so that we can finally draw a line under the out-of-control Washington spending that has put our nation more than $15 trillion in debt.

By putting a stop to out-of-control Washington, D.C., we will not only move power closer to the people and make sure their will is better reflected in decisions that impact them; we will reintroduce a measure of fiscal responsibility that has been lacking in our nation’s capital for a decade or more now. In addition, we will create an environment that inherently spurs job creation.

That’s something we know a little bit about in Texas, where over 11 years as governor of the world’s 13th largest economy, I have overseen the creation of a million jobs while the country as a whole has lost over 2 million. We have succeeded in that mission because we have created a climate where job creators know they can go out and risk their capital and see a return on their investment. And Americans from across the country continue to flock to our state, knowing they stand a better chance of getting a good job here than anywhere else.

It’s time to put a stop to out-of-control Washington, which begins with putting a stop to the out-of-control Obama administration by electing a real conservative with the ideas and determination to change the status quo. Let’s get that done in 2012.

Yes Gov. as usual you are

right. Remind everyone that you aren’t called the “Jobs Governor” for nothing!!!! Have friends/family in PA waiting for you to visit their state and give some hope!!! Hang in there and keep on going. Great debate last night as well as The Huck’s forum.

For the good of the party, it might be time for Perry to drop out...

marktx Tuesday, January 17th at 7:32PM EST (link)

Don’t get me wrong, I supported Governor Perry from the start. But at this point in the campaign, I don’t see a clear path to the nomination for him. What I do see is the conservative vote being split in South Carolina and Florida, which would allow the flip flopper from Massachusetts to win.

The best thing for the party at this time would be for Governor Perry and Senator Santorum to drop out of the race before the South Carolina primary. Doing so would provide Newt Gingrich a clear path to defeating Romney.

Way too premature for such adivice, marktx.

westcoastpatriette (Diary) Tuesday, January 17th at 7:35PM EST (link)

What’s the hurry? I say let whoever wants to stay in stay in. We have plenty of time to play this out and defeat Romney first, Obama second.

(Psst) wescoastpatriette-Gracie just overheard Erick ask Perry

tngal (Diary) Tuesday, January 17th at 7:43PM EST (link)

to get out and support Newt. (pass it on)

What a totally classless thing to post here.

You've never been to Tennessee, have you?

jakeofalltrades (Diary) Tuesday, January 17th at 8:23PM EST (link)

(I was born there – trust me.)

I forgot to add, gracie

jakeofalltrades (Diary) Tuesday, January 17th at 8:44PM EST (link)

That with some Tennesseans, the classlessness isn’t malicious: they just have no clue how normal people act. They think tact is a building material.

Some of what happened on Santorum’s diary upset me as well. Enough that I hit the contact page.

do it well.

Proud of my state, generally speaking....

…most people I’ve met here have the grace and courtesy to not insult mass groups of people with no cause whatsover. But I guess most of us hillbillies aren’t usually hiding behind a computer.

I'm generally proud of Tennessee too.

Except when one of them embarrasses the cr*p out of me with stereotypically uncouth behavior.

Also, you're wilfully blinding yourself to my use of the word "Some".

Stop trying to be a victim; are you sure you’re from Tennessee?

Oh, for crying out loud, jake

lineholder (Diary) Tuesday, January 17th at 11:57PM EST (link)

You sound as elitist as that joshdunn guy did the other day talking about Southerners.

Southerners in general know how to treat guests.

jakeofalltrades (Diary) Wednesday, January 18th at 12:03AM EST (link)

But some don’t.

Which is pretty much all I said.

ROFL, backpedaling now?

lineholder (Diary) Wednesday, January 18th at 12:09AM EST (link)

tngal posted a comment, and gracie responded. tngal isn’t a Perry supporter, so gracie took offense to the comment. And because tngal has a moniker that indicates she’s from tn, you run with a take on gracie’s comment about being “classless” with “You’ve never been to Tenessee, have you?”

That has nothing to do with how a person treats a guests. It has to do with making an elitist type of comment for the purpose of taking a jab at someone who doesn’t support the candidate you support.

Actually, I was offended by the treatment of a guest.

jakeofalltrades (Diary) Wednesday, January 18th at 12:11AM EST (link)

Just like I was on Santorum’s thread. Just because you want to paint a picture of me doesn’t mean that picture is true.

You're way off base, lineholder.

westcoastpatriette (Diary) Wednesday, January 18th at 12:19AM EST (link)

jake’ is himself from Tennessee…you really think he is that stupid. Maybe he is using a little hyperbole to deal with another obnoxious person. I’m tired of people jumping to wrong conclusions accusing people of blah, blah, blah. Especially if you have not been here most of the day watching all the garbage. I followed the entire thread and jake’ was confronting someone else who started acting like an a** here first. So why don’t you and Melody back off?

Thank you, WCP.

jakeofalltrades (Diary) Wednesday, January 18th at 12:25AM EST (link)

Yes, it was mean where I was going with that; no I shouldn’t have done it. If I had used more words I could have more gently pointed out the inconsistency between vaunted Southern hospitality and

a) the horrible embarrassment I’ve suffered over the years from my own Tennessean family saying the stupidest things to people and not even know that they’re being unkind.

b) this specific instance with Perry.

It would have been more effective if I sugar coated it.

Well, I try not to jump into other peoples' issues but

westcoastpatriette (Diary) Wednesday, January 18th at 12:31AM EST (link)

tngal’s first snarky rudeness was directed at me so I feel like I am a part of this. Her comment was so bizarre that I chose to ignore her obvious attempt to get under my skin. So, in a way, I felt like you were defending me. But not once did I read into your statements some form of southern bigotry so I decided to speak up.

jake, and I could have done the same

lineholder (Diary) Wednesday, January 18th at 12:49AM EST (link)

where my own choice of words is concerned. Let’s just call truce and leave it be, if that’s okay with you.

There was nothing blameworthy in your actions.

jakeofalltrades (Diary) Wednesday, January 18th at 12:57AM EST (link)

I was the one blasting a shotgun in a crowded room, regardless of my motive. You were just defending people. Vigorously. I like that.

And I don’t hold grudges except with dishonest opponents, which you are not. So no worries.

Yeah, I took offense, and I’ll back off if and when I choose. I happen to agree with Jake that some of the comments to Senator Santorum were personal attacks. I saw the same thing against the DeVine Gamecock (with whom I disagree). Same thing with tailfins indictment of all southerners in his offensive rail against Christians in more than one comment a few days ago.

I’m certainly a big girl and am more than willing to take up for myself, but as previously noted, I’ve been called a fool, an idiot, a racist and quite a few other names by some Perry supporters. Not by all mind you, but I don’t recall too many calling for civility when those comments were being thrown around. I do remember and appreciate your kind words when Cain dropped out.

However, I’ve been notably quiet about most of the comments I’ve seen over the past few weeks that I thought were inflammatory to say the least. I’ve held my tongue more than once, but I took this one personal. Having generally read most of Jake’s comments, I think he’s a good guy, but I think he was out of line with this comment and deserved to be called on it every bit as much as you think tngal deserved to be.

The woman saith unto him, I know that Messiah cometh (he that is called Christ): when he is come, he will declare unto us all things. (John 4:25)

The level of reason goes down even faster than the level of emotion rises.

This stuff all happened in 2008 as well. History repeats itself constantly. We could take half the comments from 2008, replace the names, and paste them now.

Melody Warbington (rwm52) (Diary) Wednesday, January 18th at 1:46AM EST (link)

about politics during this election cycle. I’m persona non grata to folks I once considered friends from my early days here at redstate because I don’t support their candidate, despite the fact that I’ve tried to stay out of the fray, and especially to stay out of attack mode.

I wasn’t nearly involved during the last primary season, and even though I’ve come to realize it’s all part of the process, I’d much prefer it if everyone followed your rules. It’d be much more civil, wouldn’t it? And I think it’d be a much more productive way to promote conservatism.

There seems to be a lot of mob mentality against posters. Some warranted; others not so much. In any event, I never thought I’d see my pragmatic side overtake my idealism, as is the case in this cycle, but that seems to be the case. My youthful, idealistic side wants Perry to win, but my mature, pragmatic side tells me it’s Newt. By March 13 (AL primary date), it may not matter.

gracie (Diary) Wednesday, January 18th at 2:33AM EST (link)

I did not take offense at tngal because she is not a Perry supporter.

I was upset that she brought something I just reported as a fact on another thread to here…this thread that the Gov himself started! made fun of him on his own thread reporting my words and labeling my words as gossip.

I thought it was uncalled for and disrespectful to do that and to post it HERE. Now he will read all of this. This is a man of great integrity who is trying his heart out to become our Leader while facing unnecessary and unfair obstacles with never a complaint. I thought he should be treated with more respect, that’s all.

Kowalski, so lineholder it was exactly about how our guest

gracie (Diary) Wednesday, January 18th at 2:42AM EST (link)

Governor Perry was being treated. It had nothing to do with making an elitist comment about someone I did not agree with.

OK it got taken too far. For whatever my part was in this I apologize. I was bascially asking to stop making this type of remark, especially on this thread. OK?

tngal (Diary) Tuesday, January 17th at 8:41PM EST (link)

westcoastpatriette & marktx were exchanging their differences on getting out re: Perry. You had mentioned earlier in another thread you heard Erick on the radio make the statement of P getting out and supporting another candidate. I mentioned it here. I never once attacked the candidate, denigrated or in any way said anything bad about him. I think all of the candidates have something positive to offer.

Now, If you’re still of a mind to think what i wrote was classless, just read what some P supporters said on the post santorum wrote. Now, those were tacky and classless because they attacked the person. Not the ideas or the proposal. Rather they were remarks about the individual candidate. I even highlighted a few of the nastier ones in a comment there. And, hey, I’m not even supporting Santorum.

There IS a difference, tngal. Governor Perry did not

pttx333 (Diary) Tuesday, January 17th at 9:14PM EST (link)

come here to bash others and to tell lies – Santorum did. There IS truly a difference.

pttx333 you might send a pointer...

snowshooze (Diary) Tuesday, January 17th at 10:49PM EST (link)

I have a hand-medown .58 Hawken from Dad.
He made a rifling cutter and placed 3 more in the barrel…
He was killing 10 inch paper plates at 400 yards. I was too young to understand what he was doing.
My patching, I think, is my weakness.
Should it be denim? Ticking? Something else?
I am inconsistent.
Should it be tight in a clean barrel?
A fouled barrel will barely accept that clean barrel patch.
I think the ball shoots better than the mini-ball.
I can’t tame this thing like Dad did.

Wow, 'shooze! You're asking me this? I'm so flattered!

pttx333 (Diary) Tuesday, January 17th at 11:32PM EST (link)

Lordy, that was many years ago, but I don’t remember using denim or ticking – too thick, I would think. You need a thinner material if you’re having to force the ball inside the barrel with too much effort. I would assume it depends on the rifling, actually. (This is sorta like trying to explain how much salt do I need to put in something.) You want to be sure that the ball doesn’t go in too easily. What we used to do was place the patch on the barrel tip, then the ball on the patch, tap it in with a rubber mallet, then take a ramrod and push it on down to the bottom of the barrel. So there is a happy medium there, ‘shooz, that depends on a lot of things – so you’re going to have to experiment. You want the fabric sturdy enough to not shred going down the barrel, yet not too thick and bulky to let the ball come out properly. Dang, wish I could see it. I remember sitting for hours at a time cutting little squares of patches – OH, are the patches too big? That might be it also! You want them to big large enough to envelop the ball with not a lot of overlap on the top. The patch is more or less the guide/holder for the ball – to guide the ball in, but also to guide it out, if that makes sense to you.

Surely there are some old muzzleloaders (used as a noun here) up there who can help you – you know, eyeball things for you. I know Texas has a lot of muzzleloaders and just cannot imagine that Alaska doesn’t. It is a fun, fun sport, lots of nice folks and good, clean family fun.

Oh, and a clean barrel is always a good thing! ;-) Let me know if you have another question or if my suggestions don’t help. I’ll contact my son for you – he’ll tell you what is what with it.

I usually cut the patch after starting the ball.

snowshooze (Diary) Tuesday, January 17th at 11:48PM EST (link)

Just after it is fully in the muzzle.. I pull my trusty super sharp pocket knife and go around.
I started at one grain per calibre, but found she really lit up at 120Gr FF and started to work. Recoil sends me into next week, but she likes it hard.
I tried swabbing every shot, I tried swabbing when I could no longer seat. I tried praying.. every lube I could lay hands on.
Using TC Spitball now.
I think the patch is the key. I can’t get out and play with the McKinley Mountain Men. I just can’t. Free time comes when it comes with a business and two infants. And a working Wife.
I tried leather shammies too, still can’t break about 8″ at 100 yards.
Really bad. I shoot consistantly under 3/4″ at 100 yards with my 700 Rem .300 winnie. Anything I feed it. Much better with my .220 swift. 6″ @ 400 is a bad day.

Yeah, 'shooze, to trim off the excess. But if you

pttx333 (Diary) Wednesday, January 18th at 12:03AM EST (link)

start with smaller patches it is easier to do. If it works for you, stick with it. No harm done.

Dang, is there a gun shop around there? Can’t imagine there isn’t one on every other corner in Alaska. They could probably help.

If you don’t come up with something soon, ‘shooze, just let me know. I’ll create a special email address for you to send me questions and I’ll forward to my son. If he can’t help, I know that he can find someone who does know.

Nope, it isn’t easy with a business to run, a working wife and two little cutie-pies. Time is truly limited. Been there, done that. Let me know, and we’ll get it figured out, ‘shooz.

BTW, never heard of the leather shammies … must be something new since the olden days when I was shooting! Sounds expensive, actually, and probably totally unnecessary … but, what do I know?

Let me know …

Pigskin Shammies.. to dry the car after washing...

snowshooze (Diary) Wednesday, January 18th at 12:16AM EST (link)

I tried them. They are inconsistant. They are leather, I thought they might hold up to the pressures better than cloth.
They might, but they are thick and thin and all over.
What else is there? I think Dad used ticking, in .017 or .011

Shammies, Oh, those kind of shammies, 'shooze! Nah, they're too thick.

pttx333 (Diary) Wednesday, January 18th at 12:54AM EST (link)

There’s ticking and then there’s ticking, ‘shooze – depends on the thickness. So that is one of those issues. Ticking would work, just depends on the thickness. Mattress grade would be too thick, I would think. Dang it! Wish I could help you more, ‘shooze. This is like one time my daughter as a young bride called to ask me how to cook such and such. I tried it with “a pinch of this, this much poured in my palm, a dab of that, and up this high on my special glass I use to measure” – didn’t work out too well. ;-)

So... Denim And Ticking too much...

snowshooze (Diary) Tuesday, January 17th at 11:56PM EST (link)

I made a solid ramrod with a great big handle. I thought, tighter is better.
Maybe I am going overboard?
Should I stay with cotton?
What did you like?
I am a pretty strong fellow. When I say it was tight.. I mean just short of a hammer in a fouled barrel.

Cotton vs. denim - let me think back, 'shooze.

pttx333 (Diary) Wednesday, January 18th at 12:11AM EST (link)

There are different thicknesses to both. Boy, that would depend on a lot of things – the barrel, the cloth, etc. But I do know that the ball should go in without needing to take a hammer to the ramrod to get it to seat at the bottom the of barrel. No, you would use the rubber mallet to get the patch/ball to the point where it was just inside the barrel (not falling in or “ooching” down, just stuck there), then take the ramrod and hand-over-hand punch it on down. I’ve never seen anyone have to use anything other than the ramrod at that stage. It has to be the fabric … has to be. I think you’ve got it. At this point, I think it would be a trial and error thing with fabric. Go to a fabric store and get some swatches of cloth and try – shoot, who know? – someone in the fabric store may know what you’re looking for. Sure doesn’t have to come from a gun place. Always got our fabric at the fabric places. How’s that sound to ya?

I never figured anyone in a fabric shop would have a clue.

snowshooze (Diary) Wednesday, January 18th at 12:19AM EST (link)

Just too much to expect.

I should say Cotton Vs. Linnen .

snowshooze (Diary) Wednesday, January 18th at 12:29AM EST (link)

As cotton is the flower and linnen is the fiber.
much different.

Trouble is.. I am well beyond most I talk to.

snowshooze (Diary) Wednesday, January 18th at 12:35AM EST (link)

I am at the point that modst don’t even understand the words I say.
I get that feeling when pitching Perry as well. ( Just to tie some context in )
Playing at the higher level..

Okay, I'm thinking, 'shooze, that a thin (not sheer) ticking would

pttx333 (Diary) Wednesday, January 18th at 12:58AM EST (link)

work – and you would be very surprised at what they know in REAL fabric stores – not at Wally World or one of those places, but a real, old-fashioned fabric store. Those folks know their fabrics, and I can’t imagine they haven’t dealt with this issue – muzzleloaders get their fabric from somewhere!

No...conservatives don't have plenty of time

marktx Tuesday, January 17th at 7:43PM EST (link)

If Romney wins South Carolina, it will be due to conservatives splitting their votes among three candidates. And if Romney wins South Carolina, the party establishment, as well as Fox News, will quickly unite around Romney. Not only that, but funding for the other candidates will dry up, forcing at least two of the conservative candidates to quit the race soon after South Carolina votes are in. Better to drop out just before the primary on Saturday than just after.

Ok... why not just get Romney and Gingrich get out then?

snowshooze (Diary) Tuesday, January 17th at 7:50PM EST (link)

We’d get a lot better deal. The GOP wouldn’t like it much… they’d have to come out of pocket more with either of them.. and it eats into their play money.

OOps.. GOP want's Romney because he has dough..

snowshooze (Diary) Tuesday, January 17th at 7:52PM EST (link)

They don’t want Gingrich or Perry…

jfree Tuesday, January 17th at 9:39PM EST (link)

they don’t want Gov. Perry because there wouldn’t be any “status quo” left to maintain when he was done wrecking that little playhouse. He scares them to death.

They want Romney because they know he will play the game.

Gingrich is polling better than Santorum...and much better than Perry...

marktx Tuesday, January 17th at 7:57PM EST (link)

If the goal is to defeat the front running flip flopper from Massachusetts, the only way to do that is by uniting around one alternative candidate. Gingrich is within striking distance in the polls, and would be in much better shape if Santorum and Perry weren’t hanging around at the margins.

If Perry dropped out and endorsed Gingrich, perhaps Gingrich would put choose Perry as his VP.

New Hampshire should NOT be the first primary to vote. That state no longer represents the current demographics of the republican party – and by having an open primary, far too many non republicans vote for candidates that aren’t conservative.

South Carolina is far more representative of the current mood of the party.

it will be Romney and Paul left. Mark my words. Etveryone should get out of their comfort zone and talk to people. I have been amazed at the people I talk to or over hear that are looking to support Paul. I had a call from relatives in PA this morning asking about my opinion of R.Paul, their remarks were he sounds too good to be true. These are highly educated people in their 50′s and up. I had conversations around town with people that just are not going to vote for Gingrich or Santorum. I truly believe it to be a plan for Romney and Paul to be the last 2 standing and then they figure Romney takes it. It is going to backfire. Can people not remember last time Ron Paul got little to no media coverage. Fox has had him on alot this time. since all are reporting Perry is low in the polls, then why would his “little” support factor against anybody? Why not ask someone that is polling higher to get out, like Santorum? We are doomed and will be looking at another 4 yrs of Obama.

I did suggest that Santorum, as well as Perry, drop out. Nor do I believe Ron Paul will do as well in South Carolina as he has done elsewhere. Ironically, if Ron Paul somehow won the South Carolina primary, that would put an end to the Romney front runner status. In fact, it would be the best thing in the long term for the Gingrich campaign.

To drop out at this point when probably no candidate has even 20 delegates, there have been no “GOP ONLY” primaries and no medium to large state “GOP only” primaries would certainly be foolish. But on the other hand, if any do so for any other than simply not having the funds to continue, it is good for the voter as it shows that that candidate didn’t have the “intestinal fortitude” to keep going when the going got tough. America doesn’t need an easy quitter.

If you 'Defeat Romney' and then lose to OBAMA, it doesn't matter one whit....

Dave_A (Diary) Tuesday, January 17th at 11:01PM EST (link)

And that is what GINGRICH would do.

No one will care about ‘Lincoln/Douglas debates’ when Obama digs up every bit of juicy divorce gossip & every congressional ethics charge (true or false, doesn’t matter – just ask Dan Rather)…..

Gingrich is the EASIEST candidate for Obama to BEAT, of any that have any shot at the nomination….

Why?

Because Obama’s best campaign tactic is to run against his opponent’s personal life… It’s how he got to the Senate in the first place, by digging up Mr Ryan’s divorce files & the various sex-related ‘problems’ he had with his ex, Star Trek star Jerri Ryan….

Ryan, Obama’s opponent, wasn’t accused of cheating, either – he essentially wanted to ‘show off’ his wife in public, and she didn’t approve of that sort of thing… They sealed the file to keep the whole matter private, and Obama dug it up & got it unsealed to win his senate seat…

Now, hand Obama a man who’s got not one, but MULTIPLE divorces – all due to cheating… And who faced congressional ethics charges (true or false does NOT matter to the Dems)….

He won’t even have to bother with debating the issues or defending his record – he’ll just go 100% personal/mud-slinging, and do enough damage that Gingrich won’t stand a chance…

We need a CLEAN candidate….

Which means ideally Gov Perry, but if not him, Romney is the only other choice who has a chance….

I don’t expect anyone to drop out before South Carolina votes. Anyone actually voting in South Carolina ought to seriously think about voting for Gingrich, however. If Romney wins, all the other candidates have no hope. If Gingrich wins, on the other hand, the battle continues in Florida, and more people will be interested.

NH did not count because it is a waste of time to try to court NE libs to vote for a conservative. I live in MA, I do not trust Romney to repeal Obamacare because he signed Romneycare into law and refuses to apologize to use for it.

No fake, phony, smoke-blowing man is he – he just shoots straight and says it like it is. He is a true gentleman, yet a John Wayne in the raw – all in one. His wife is magnificent – I have met and visited with her, she is a delightful lady.

Gosh, I’m so happy you Romney as do I. I see a fake, a phony, a man with no core principles, convictions or discipline. I see a spoiled brat who has been in training all of his life for where he is now – he is so coached, so molded, so stiff – he’s like a pretzel in a bunch of twists and turns. I just see there no there, there. And, no, I don’t believe for one second that he would do anything about Obamacare – then he would have to admit that he is dead wrong on Romneycare, so that isn’t happening. His Romneycare staff went to b.o. at the White House to advise on Obamacare. How ’bout that??? Cozy, huh? He would never ever admit to being wrong about anything. But, that is just what I see.

Good talking to you, Carol. Buzz me any time!

Famous line from Cast Away.

“I gotta keep breathing. Because tomorrow the sun will rise. Who knows what the tide could bring? “

The above is an excerpt from the whole statement:
We both had done the math. Kelly added it all up and… knew she had to let me go. I added it up, and knew that I had… lost her. ‘cos I was never gonna get off that island. I was gonna die there, totally alone. I was gonna get sick, or get injured or something. The only choice I had, the only thing I could control was when, and how, and where it was going to happen. So… I made a rope and I went up to the summit, to hang myself. I had to test it, you know? Of course. You know me. And the weight of the log, snapped the limb of the tree, so I-I – , I couldn’t even kill myself the way I wanted to. I had power over *nothing*. And that’s when this feeling came over me like a warm blanket. I knew, somehow, that I had to stay alive. Somehow. I had to keep breathing. Even though there was no reason to hope. And all my logic said that I would never see this place again. So that’s what I did. I stayed alive. I kept breathing. And one day my logic was proven all wrong because the tide came in, and gave me a sail. And now, here I am. I’m back. In Memphis, talking to you. I have ice in my glass… And I’ve lost her all over again. I’m so sad that I don’t have Kelly. But I’m so grateful that she was with me on that island. And I know what I have to do now. I gotta keep breathing. Because tomorrow the sun will rise. Who knows what the tide could bring?

But we must be realistic, and if Romney wins SC it is effectively over. As it stands now, the only hope (and its even slim at that) to stop the Romney express is for you and Sen. Santorum to throw your support to Gingrich….BEFORE Saturday. (And it wouldn’t hurt to have luaP noR drop out, too, but we all know that ain’t gonna happen.)

AZ, this is what Rush called similar views being expressed by pundits today. Do you really think this year is no different from other election years? I think it is very different. Nearly a million people who went to Washington on their own time and money to protest ObamaCare and trillion-dollar deficits are not going to be dictated to by Party elites. What’s Mrs. AZProf saying? She’s often sharper than you.

Do you have me confused with someone else?

azaeroprof (Diary) Wednesday, January 18th at 2:02AM EST (link)

I don’t recall mentioning Mrs. AZProf before?? She is more conservative (if that’s possible) and much less political than me. She did agree, though, to name our daughter Reagan and she has long been a Gingrich fan.

I don’t consider it negativity. However, money still rules in politics, and the establishment has the money. I do believe this year is somewhat different, and that if it were a head-to-head with one conservative candidate vs Romney, the conservative would have had a great chance. But they have split the vote for too long, and it will take something just short of a miracle to turn it around.

I sense that the electorate is already tiring of the GOP race. I see that even among GOP activists, both conservative and establishment. That’s why I think that if Romney wins handily in a conservative southern state like SC, many more folks will decide to just “settle” and the money and support for the conservative candidates will dry up quickly.

I pray I’m wrong.

For the good of the country, everyone BUT Perry should drop out

gbenton Wednesday, January 18th at 5:32PM EST (link)

Romney is not conservative, won’t change a thing, and may very well lose.

Newt is erratic and I doubt he plays well in the general considering the last time America saw him he was getting rolled by Clinton and was forced out of the speakership.

Santorum- while I appreciate his passion and underdog determination, I do not see him winning and do not forgive him for Alan Specter over Toomey, among other things. That gave us Obamacare because of how Arlen voted.

Paul – anyone who likes Paul’s commitment to the Constitution should find Perry appealing over Obama. Paul’s other views make him unelectable and a vote for him would be a vote for Obama.

If ALL the non-Romney’s dropped out, Perry would be able to defeat Romney by math alone.

When Perry is the only one who has proven he can DO the job, why are we fooling around with these other guys?

It’s a serious question.

What if the Republic is at stake?

Do we really want ANY of the other candidates to be our President in these trying times?

I am grateful Gov. Perry decided to join the race. I believe if he stays in the others will be surpised to see him come from behind, as he has before.

But if the GOP continues to nominate weak or boring candidates against the Dem media mechine, our country is doomed to Euro trash status.

Perry is the strongest conservative in the race, and no one can tell me that he would fare any worse in the general than the other guys still in the race.

Sir, I want to thank you for stopping by. I agree it is time that Washington, D.C. be put in it’s place. The Founding Fathers never intended for the Federal Government to be this big. I fully believe a large part of the problem began when Senators began being elected by the citizens of the state instead of by the state’s legislature. It is time for that to change.

You, sir, are the only one running with a strong record of fighting for states’ rights and please continue to point that out. You are also the only current Executive of a state. I am perplexed, and disturbed that someone like Mitt Romney has a chance to win this nomination. I believe you have a strong chance, Governor Perry. If you’re going to use the Bain Capital part of Romney’s resume to attack him, do so from a morality standpoint. It’s easy to make the argument that what was done by Romney was to line the pockets of himself and not benefit those working for the company he took over. The argument can be made that a man who will destroy those around him to better himself can’t be trusted to put the good of the nation before himself.

I did applause tracking. Newt got a lot more applause – thanks in part to Juan Williams, but your 3 big ones (in a row, I might add) were just as loud and long as Newt’s. The other candidates’ audiences were unenthused by comparison – either less loud, less long, or both.

We all want you to hang in there and let the others drop out. Once it’s you and Newt – THEN America will have a clear choice.

Take it to all fifty-seven states, Gov! We’re with you all the way. Besides, I heard you always come from behind for the win.

God bless you and yours!

I love your stance on states’ rights and that Congress needs to go home and live under the same rules as the rest of us.

I prayed you would get in the race and you have my support! I look forward to going to D.C. in January 2013 to see you sworn in as the 45th President of the United States.

I am finishing up my Masters in Education and will start teaching high school American Government and Economics this Fall. I look forward to talking to my students about you and how you are working hard at making sure the opportunities are their for them to enjoy.

Keep up the good work and I look forward to voting for you on Super Tuesday here in GA!

Kudos, Governor Perry! Thank you so much for

visiting with us here at Red State.

Loved your forum Saturday with Huckabee and the debate last night. You absolutely nailed it both times. Wow! I was here cheering for you. I agree with everything you said, but when you addressed the top of our Marines’ -gasp- “utterly deplorable behavior,” it was all I could do to refrain from running out into the streets to announce to everyone what you replied – Paul Revere style, without the horse. They are NOT criminals! It was bad judgement, but no more so than running a stop sign – less, actually, they were not endangering anyone. The deplorable acts have come from the terrorists, and we cannot ignore or forget that.

Thank you for taking the time from your busy, busy schedule to give us updates. You have my vote all the way to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue – and that will not change!

Uhh, pttx333

The reason, for the most part, is that I get so involved while here that I don’t know what time it is, whether the sun has set, etc. Then, all of a sudden, I collapse for a few minutes and off I go again. Talk about an addiction!

Part of it is that I’ve always had such an inquisitive mind, it is natural to love puzzles, analysis and research. Since I retired (it IS NOT the thing to do!), that part of me has been sorely lacking in the fulfillment department so have taken on other things to keep the old brain working. At this stage, it is RS, my friends here and the election of Governor Perry. To me, this entire process is like one huge puzzle involving both research and analysis, and I love it!

I live alone so there is absolutely no one I have to care for other than myself. Since my husband died, I just do as I wish, when I wish. That is a good/bad thing – a catch 22, if you will. But, I’m alive and well, full of vinegar and that other ingredient, and rarin’ to go! Life can be good if we allow it to be so!

How do you figure BHO is a Washington insider? You will be like every other politician, dragging along other political friends who may have been in Washington, but may not.

You can’t do 1/2 of what you promise here as President, because things like Congress sessions are not Presidential powers. Better you should stay in Texas and dream big dreams and maybe even read a copy of that book called the Constitution.. But suggest you drop out first.

““Liberals tend to put the onus of your success on society and conservatives on you and your family.”

Dennis Prager

ohiohistorian, BHO IS a Washington insider! Anyone

pttx333 (Diary) Tuesday, January 17th at 8:13PM EST (link)

who has been involved in Chicago’s politics IS a DC insider.

Governor Perry is NOT dropping out, FYI. Your comments here are absolutely rude, uncalled for and obnoxious – perhaps you can take them to another site where others of your ilk reside.

Maybe you would like to refute my comments?

ohiohistorian (Diary) Tuesday, January 17th at 8:28PM EST (link)

Despite what your ignorance tells you, Chicago is NOT inside the Washington Beltway. And yes, I am rude to a fatuous idiot who writes stuff that he cannot do as though he has even mentioned any of this as a PLAN. Empty rhetoric from an empty suit is Governor Perry.

Perry cannot force a part-time Congress. Congress sets their own schedule (Article I).
Perry cannot undo the EPA mission wiith the bureaucrats, who are protected as civil service, are willing to buck him. Al a GWB and Colin Powell at DOS.

Perry can’t even cut the budget. He can veto all day, until he finally caves

The problem is that the Congress has these responsibilities. If he wants to do them, he should go see Ron Paul.

As far as my comments and being offensive, learn to live with the truth. You think I belong somewhere else, go read my blogs and tell me why.

Because I do not like Romney, Gingrich, OR Perry. DR. Paul is beneath contempt. I am tired of settling for second best. I would rather have an open convention and take my chances than pick Tweedledum, Tweedledumber, and Tweedledumbest. (the three candidates described here). FYI, Santorum isn’t any bargain, either. Go listen to Roger Hedgecock’s first hour tonight, where he reads a list of what Santorum voted for.

““Liberals tend to put the onus of your success on society and conservatives on you and your family.”

So you hate everyone and you're bitter.

jakeofalltrades (Diary) Tuesday, January 17th at 8:30PM EST (link)

Thanks for venting. You aren’t so hot yourself.

I will be more than happy to refute your comments.

runner12 (Diary) Tuesday, January 17th at 8:46PM EST (link)

Obama is a Washington Insider because that is who got him elected. An insider is not defined by one’s residence, but on who brought them to power. By your illogical argument, Reid would not be a Washington Insider because he is a Senator from Nevada. And if you even try to argue that Reid is not a Washington Insider, then there is no hope for you.

As to no power over Congress, it seems you need to re-read Article 3 of the Constitution. The President does have some authority over when Congress adjourns and convenes.

And finally, if you do not think that the President does not exert great influence over the budget, how did Obama manage to rack up so much debt after the 2010 elections? Yes, he had the Senate. But he holds the bully pulpit as well. Never underestimate that.

And yes, your comments are rude and show a complete lack of etiquette. You can disagree with a sitting Governor, but some respect is due. I would not even reply to a Democrat Governor using the language you did. Do you know why? Because that form of language only beclowns the one who wrote it.

Maybe you would like to refute.....

I can only figure that your attitude is because you are emotionally invested in Perry. As far as Obama and the Bully Pulpit, that is not the reason. Try guys like Ron Paul who stuff the bill then vote against it after it is going to pass, guys like Boehner who are the old guard, and a majority in the Senate. THAT is what got Obama what he wants, not the Bully Pulpit. A guy at 40% doesn’t win the Bully Pulpit, any more than a guy at 5% wins the nomination.

““Liberals tend to put the onus of your success on society and conservatives on you and your family.”

The guy who was complaining about "respect" for a sitting Governor

ohiohistorian (Diary) Wednesday, January 18th at 8:57PM EST (link)

doesn’t want to give Ron Paul his title without calling a guy a “Paulbot”. Maybe you should read my whole post where I told you I don’t like Ron Paul either. DR. Ron Paul is satire. Dr. Ron Paul is not. I guess I am getting into the point where I am wrestling with the pig in the mud, so I will stop because you like it too much.

As far as leaving, don’t say goodbye yet. I have been a conservative when Goldwater was running when I was 14. I know a conservative, and NONE of these guys are conservative enough for me. That includes someone who calls 18-22 year olds “children” and thinks that the citizens owe illegal ones of them a cut-price education. And you think he isn’t going to push amnesty just like the two Bushes?

As far as the checks and balances, you tell me when the last President sent home a Congress was? Or anything else. The comments like this were by a desperate man trying to hold onto his slim following.

““Liberals tend to put the onus of your success on society and conservatives on you and your family.”

I hope you stay in for the long haul. Forget about the MSM just work hard to get you message out. Many here on RS do our part by visiting other sites and posting about you. The MSM have decided to Palinize you maybe not as viciously as they did Sarah Palin (it is hard to denigrate your record) but they have decided to marginalize you and your campaign and it is up to the grassroots to overcome their Palinization of you. I have been one of your supporters and have been contributing as much as I can every month and will continue to do so until I hit the individual campaign limit. I will continue to support you as long as you are in the race. I truly believe you are the only hope we have to save America as all the other candidates believe that it is the governments responsiblity to take care of us and you are the only one who believes that we as individuals can make our own choices. One size fits all government does not work. May God bless you and see you through to the nomination. You are in my prayers and have my support every day.

Yes, Gov, PLEASE stay in the race!

The solution to turn America around

izoneguy (Diary) Tuesday, January 17th at 7:52PM EST (link)

is as simple as voting for Gov. Perry….

It really is that easy.

South Carolina what are you waiting for?

Newt can be President Perry’s VP….

The other Rick needs to get lost.

The point cannot be made often enough: Modern liberalism, as embodied in the Obama presidency, is the defender of the status quo. And the status quo is a road to economic ruin. Political forces cannot redistribute the wealth that the economic system does not produce.

Nullifying our vote

conservnca Tuesday, January 17th at 7:59PM EST (link)

Hi Gov. Perry,
I am so grateful for the opportunity to say a few things to you. If you ever have the time to read the posts here on RedState you will get a pretty good idea of how so many of your supporters feel about you, and how much we are committed to having your back.We all know you are the President this country needs to fight this enemy we have allowed in thru misguided voters. The politicians have become power hungry with an appetite that is out of control. Our freedoms are truly under assault and it’s amazing to me how those who are against our Constitution are using so many back door ways to strip us from our rights as Americans. It has occurred to me that these calls for our Presidential candidates to drop out of this race is one of those tactics. If the media and the establishment tell people often enough that the frontrunner is the one, no need to stay in the race, our right to vote is being nullified. If those who want to rule over us can’t take away our right to vote because the Constitution protects us, then why not convince us it’s already over without almost all of America not having a say yet in their state. In effect that is how our vote can be taken.
There are so many desperate for you to stay in this race to fight for America and her freedoms, but the most precious freedom we have is the right to vote and to be heard. If any of the candidates give in to pressure to drop out (unless they have no choice) because it will make a smoother pathway for those who are so arrogant to think they have it all sewn up, then I fear for us.
This primary is supposed to be a race, a contest. So let it be one. We the people deserve to have this process fully completed, or else why have one. Just so the establishment can tell us who they have chosen for us to vote for! Why vote then if it’s already a done deal? That sounds like a dictatorship to me.
America has been stripped down little by little for so many years that many Americans are getting used to living in the repressive ways of Washington and the media. We can’t allow that to continue. I believe that is why God has called you to run. He knows you are a fighter, He knows your heart, He knows He has your ear, and He knows He has your trust! Please don’t give up.Let Him use you to fight for this country which in turn is fighting for freedom everywhere. It’s not over until it’s over! I know you must be surprised at how so many have come after you to take you out for their own selfish purposes, but you are fighting for so many Godly things that I am sure hell itself would like to unleash on you. If God is for you who can come against you! God is for you, He says so in His Word.
Thank-you for standing in our place to try to right so many wrongs here. I believe with my whole heart if you will stay in this race you Will be the last man standing. Newt Will implode again(he can’t help himself) as he gets puffed up. He is already calling for you and Santorum to drop out so he has clear sailing. I thought he was running for all Americans, not just the ones who have had their vote in 2 states. Doesn’t he believe a President has the duty to protect all the citizens rights? Guess not. He’s what matters, not us! I am so tired of those and their actions to control us.If Newt, Romney, Santorum and Paul truly have the heart of an American President then let all the people of this country have a say, AND QUIT TRYING TO NULLIFY OUR VOTE.I know a Perry Presidency will again reawaken the American dream and bring her values back to the forefront.

Stay in the race, Gov. Perry.

runner12 (Diary) Tuesday, January 17th at 8:20PM EST (link)

I want the chance to cast my vote for you. I live in the state to your north and believe me I know first hand how competitive Texas is with regards to jobs. It is a state known for bringing in big job producers due to the economic freedom that exists there.

Do not give in to the media hype nor the spin that if you don’t get out of the race Romney wins. This argument makes no sense at all this time around given that whoever is the anti-Romney will be blackballed by the establishment. Romney has been crowned by some and will continue to be, no matter who stays in or gets out. I say fight till the end. Push the contest to all fifty states. This country needs you.

Thanks, Governor.

I’ve often said if I could appoint a President, it would be you.

But we do need confidence in your electability. People have a strong deep seated fear from earlier debate performances, oops moments etc… strong supporters here keep yelling “record, record, record….”

Unfortunately, America doesn’t look at records in depth and make a rational reasoned informed decision. It’s often on gut feel and confidence.

Buckley’s rule. Go for the conservative that can get elected.

I think the consensus polling is single digits in both SC and FL.

Can you share with us your thoughts on your path to victory from here?

What is going to change?

If your campaign thinks you can hang around until Santorum and Gingrich run out of resources? How do you think you can mount a challenge to Romney who would have won IA, NH, SC, FL and more? beyond by then?

Please share your thoughts on electability and path to nomination. It is the most lingering important question/concern that people have in throwing their support your way. It’s not your record.

Thanks!

Also, would Governor Perry’s campaign consider throwing their support to the Gingrich campaign for SC only? This would give Romney a defeat and open the race back up some.

Scope (Diary) Tuesday, January 17th at 9:08PM EST (link)

Common Cents has been going on and on and on about Perry’s less than stellar debates, and yes, the ooops moment happened in a debate. If anyone on these boards can tell me, with a straight face, that debate performances is now the “new” criteria to judge presidential candidates, I’ll be more than done with the Republican party. That means to me that anyone who can articulate their newfound positions in a stellar way, is who deserves the presidency. It excludes a candidates record and positions on the issues, but, puts a premium on the candidates ability to lie with all the flourish that a candidate can muster.

There are not just a few that recognize that bluster and bravado isn’t what will win the WH, Obama has that tactic down in spades. What “debate” has Obama participated in since he became president? What winning policies has Obama been able to pass with the majority of the countries support? Obamacare comes to mind, and you can add in the Banking Reform to that mix.

It breaks my heart to see any candidate get thrashed here on their own diary.

I’ve stated 109 times I like Perry as in the above post, but have called into question his electability and asked Redstaters, him and/or his campaign to address electability over the past couple months.

Keep your head in the sand if you want.

Bashing? I don’t think i’ve called anyone names like I have received from certain people. It really makes you look immature and pathetic.

Are you now going to call Sarah Palin an idiot and Perry basher? She just stated on Hannity she would vote for Gingrich if she was in SC. Go ahead, throw another under the bus and make yourself look foolish.

You should examine where your anger is coming from and quit projecting it on others. Perhaps some time off from politics will help.

Give Perry a chance? I donated to his campaign early on. Candidates don’t deserve chances, they have to EARN them with records and performance/electability.

Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan ‘Press On’ has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.

And Governor, here's some messages to you from Winston Churchill as well!

These really encouraged me this week:

“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”

“Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.”

“A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.”

“We shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end…we shall fight with growing confidence…we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.”

First time I voted for Gov. Perry..

nativetexan41 Tuesday, January 17th at 9:03PM EST (link)

Was for AG Commisoner and then Lt. Gov. Then unfortunately my husband had to take a job out of state. We love Texas and have family there. Gov. Perry is a good Gov. and we would be so blessed if he were our nominee. His military service and his leadership as Governor is what we need. I think Newt is so full of himself, give him one good debate and he declares himself the winner of the race. Santorum is really only a social conservative not a fiscal conservative, don’t want either one of them.
Just read Perry is proposing a Wounded Warrior Tax Plan, if you served this country and were wounded then you would not pay any taxes for 5 years. This is the least we could do for these great young men and women.
Praying for Perry and for the SC voters to see through the other two and come out Saturday and vote for Perry.

Govenor Perry, you keep up the hard work.

Sarah Palin Says: Vote Newt

aj_0000 Tuesday, January 17th at 9:10PM EST (link)

She just said this on Hannity: the contest needs to keep going, eventually one or two of the conservative candidates will need to drop out. If she lived in SC, she would vote for Newt. Of course her husband already endorsed Gingrich, but Sarah (diplomatically) has called it correctly, and suggested the right vote is a vote for Newt.

Threadjack! This diary is about out-of-control spending and Rick Perry - not Sarah Palin, Hannity, Newt, or disrespecting our visiting dignitaries.

Good Start, Governor Perry

unsk Tuesday, January 17th at 9:16PM EST (link)

Governor Perry, I like much of what you said here but I have a few qualms.

Returning power to the States is not the panacea some conservatives think it is. Some states like my own, California, routinely violate my property and other constitutional rights, and would continue to do if given more power.

The answer is to enforce the Constitution.

I would propose all legislation go under a ” Regulatory Impact Review” where those pieces of Legislation or regulation that impinge on our rights, particularly the Fifth Amendment and my rights to Life, Liberty and Property are reviewed under a Cost/Benefit – Risk/Return analysis where if unless there is a unquestionable benefit to a piece of Legislation that in any way impinges on my right that it be ruled null and void. And furthermore, I would propose all Legislation, regulations and ordinances from the last fifty years be reviewed in a similar manner by dates certain that would allow for an appropriate review.

A major reason our economy is in this devastating recession is that our regulatory system has strangled growth and forced much of our manufacturing might overseas. To return that manufacturing base home, we must squarely face that our regulatory system is broken. Badly. Unless we drastically overhaul our regulatory system, our economy will not return to prosperity.

Furthermore, within that regulatory reform effort, we must address the corrupt regulatory practices regarding our Financial sector and the FED. The Too Big Too Fail Banks have bought and paid for not only flimsy regulatory oversight but outright sweetheart giveaways from the FED and Congress. The Big Banks have committed outright fraud worth in the Trillions.

You, sir, have not addressed this fiasco. I believe that is one reason your candidacy has not taken off. It is a glaring omission. A true conservative would have been madder than hell about this outrageous fraud.

Unless the Big Banks are cleaned up normal lending will not return. Again, how can one expect there to be a recovery when small business cannot get a loan when appropriately qualified?

Gov Perry Please stay in the race

conservnca above, sums it up so beautifully….

Gov Perry, your points are all well taken and approved. You and your vision for America are spot on, and I think everyone knows it…At least I pray for that daily.
All your hard work putting yourself on the line is a credit to your character, your commitment and your record…But I find all your hard work is undone minute by minute by the establishment and our faux media. As Americans this should give us all pause for concern. It just feels like the Long arm of the government reaching out to strangle the values and principle you and we uphold.
This is IMHO just as big of a deficit as we have monetarily in our nation. I am as always standing strong in support of your candidacy, there are so many of us who are fighting our battles daily to uphold our convictions against the powers that be.
It will be an honor to continue to support you …. I pray that you keep up the good fight. I and my family have your back!

Thank you so much, Governor Perry

Please stay in the race. If you leave, there will be no Tea Party candidate left. My seven-year-old brother loves you–he has the picture of you and our Governor Jindal (with the John Deere tractor) sitting proudly in his bedroom–and was begging me to tell him yesterday that you’re pressing on. I assured him and our little sisters that yes, you’re persevering.

No matter what happens, the Lord is working all things for your good. And as your sister in Christ I want nothing but God’s best for your life. So press on and be of good courage, knowing that there’s a family here in Louisiana that labors in prayer for you everyday. Our God can do anything and He’s showed throughout history that He’s with those who trust Him with their whole heart.

Fight for all Americans to have a choice

keepithonest Tuesday, January 17th at 9:21PM EST (link)

please Gov. Perry.

I don’t know what your finances are but I would like every candidate to stay in until the very end. I am dismayed at how many politicians who are supposed to represent the American voters try to make decisions for them by asking candidates to leave the race to make room for others.

Taking away the rest of the states right to choose the person they really believe in by hounding candidates to leave the race is despicable. Also, since when did the religious leaders speak for all. Where does it say that in the constitution. Catholics, Evangelicals and other religions have congregations that have minds of their own. In fact, that is the American way.

Every American has the right to choose from all of the candidates not just those that the first few states decide upon. I see the system becoming more corrupt as each election goes by. I arrived in the US when the Watergate scandal was in bloom and I thought that things would get better. At first it did – but it is really broken now.

Our troops die to give the rights to other nations to chose their leaders. How in the world can we justify the circus that is taking place today. Candidates making decisions that they are the best candidates and that only they can win so the others need to leave the race. Candidates calling upon their competitors to leave the race should be disqualified for ignoring the rights of the voter to choose.

Red Staters. No matter which candidate you are supporting, please fight for the the rights for all Americans to choose from all of the candidates.

God Speed Gov. Perry and keep up the good fight. Only leave the race if you feel it is truly the answer, but if you do, I will be so disappointed.

States have POWERS, not Rights,

curtmilr Tuesday, January 17th at 9:35PM EST (link)

which are ascribed to individual citizens of the Republic by God Almighty, not the government. Please keep that semenal distinction clear in ALL your communications!

The national government (no longer federal) under the Constitution is granted Powers by the People thru the States in the Constitution. Unless specifically enumerated, actions of the national government beyond those specified grants are usurpations of Rights and Powers not their own, and are wholly invalid!

Gov. Perry, I believe that you are the man for the hour, but it remains up to you to BE that man. Your early stumbles can be surpassed, but only by consistency, persistance, and intense focus on the goals of regaining Constitutional control of the national government again.

True, the conduct of the Legislative Houses are subject solely to the rules of their own making. You cannot unilaterally make such changes, nor get them to pass Amendments ordaining such strictures as you suggest. But an electoral mandate would require such measures to be brought to a vote, and, with the bully pulpit, pressure could be brought to bear to pass them, or bring them to the State Legislatures. Further, the established administrative bureaucracy must first be neutered to prevent them from becoming an entrenched oligarchyfurther removed from the control of the People or the Legislature. This is a similularity to the extraconstitutional power that the Judiciary has likewise usurped in the last century, by their own edicts.

Honestly, Governor, you are an imperfect vessel, as are we all. But it seems that your heart & soul is in the right place, and that you are being called to a higher service than you had previously contemplated. I trust you are accepting of this calling, not with arrogance, but with, as Gov. Palin called it, “a servant’s heart”, and that you will help to reestablish the Republic that our forefathers have fought and died for across the generations.

Godspeed, Governor! Never abandon the fight, for, as a Texan, you are our Favorite Son in this race. And if it takes a floor fight at the convention to succeed in preventing the RINO subversion of our Party, SO BE IT!!

We cannot tolerate any further subjugation to the amoral Obamanation that presently resides in the seat of power, May the Almighty strengthen you!

VICTORY, OR DEATH!!!

Dear Governor Perry, a couple quick points.

snowshooze (Diary) Tuesday, January 17th at 9:35PM EST (link)

But first;
We are honored by your participation here. Thank you.
And also, thanks for announcing at the RedState event.

Ok, first, you have mentioned backfunding programs to the States.
I fail to see where that would be superior to just kicking the Federal Government out of those programs entirely.
The States shouldn’t even have to send their money in.
If the Federakl government get their ” Mitts ” on it… they will retain as much as they can . Cut them out of the loop.
Second…
Tell me what you think of recess appointments.
With a part-time Congress… it is problematic.
And we need to proceed with caution, unlike Obama, we tend to try to follow our rules rather than get around them. This could be a double edged sword.
Thanks,

I hope you stay and respond to the comments on your post. While I don’t agree with all of your suggestions or actions as Governor in TX, I do like what you bring to the table and hope that other Republicans will look at you seriously come SC’s primary day.

That said, I do hope that your campaign specifies what a Perry administration would do about entitlements. I think I speak for most of the conservative movement when I say that spending is the issue for 2012, and your campaign seems to agree with me. Given this, entitlements are an important topic that your campaign can help to educate Americans on; particularly the extent to which they are responsible for government spending increases over the last decade and the ways that this can be curbed by applying free-market reforms for future generations. While your campaign has had its missteps, it can be a force for good, prove its seriousness, and impress fiscal conservative primary voters in SC by demonstrating a substantive, concrete approach to entitlements and creative solutions for how to fix them.

aesthete (Diary) Tuesday, January 17th at 10:21PM EST (link)

I agree that jobs are important, and that Perry needs to do a better job (heh, heh) of stating this outside the context of Texas, which his record would justify. However, entitlement spending (and their impact on government spending and growth) is a) directly tied to the size of government, and federal government control over states and people (two issues highlighted by Perry), and b) has an impact on jobs — a good business climate is derived in large part from a stable government, a stable currency, and stable regulations (also something Perry has highlighted). None of these things will be stable if debt gets to unmanageable levels, and entitlement spending has much to do with this. IMO, if Perry has the time and inclination to make unpopular statements about his views on Iraq, then he should divert this time and energy to educate the public on an issue which directly impacts everything that his campaign has attempted to highlight.

http://spectator.org/archives/2010/07/16/americas-ruling-class-and-the

I was thinking about Codevilla’s piece today (not done rereading it yet) after reading Dan McLaughlin’s RS piece that analyzes Establishment v. “outsider.”

Your outstanding accomplishments as a long-serving governor are ignored by the media and by the Establishment on both left and right because you are part of what Codevilla calls the Country Class. (I’m not keen on that name, but haven’t thought of a better one yet.) You are in good company:

it is possible to be an official of a major corporation or a member of the U.S. Supreme Court (just ask Justice Clarence Thomas), or even president (Ronald Reagan), and not be taken seriously by the ruling class.

The parentheticals in the quote are Codevilla’s.

This is why you are the candidate that terrifies everyone from President Obama to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. Way to go! Thanks for being on our side.

And Colbert’s pitch to South Carolina voters to vote for him by voting Herman Cain, because Colbert’s name is not on the ballot. I have no idea how that will influence the actual vote on Saturday, January 21, 2012.

If ever there was a Tuesday night to watch that 3:45 hours of television and relate it to this election year, last night was IT.

Who can you trust? was a common theme in all four programs.

Who has the courage and steadiness to walk into the line of fire was a common theme in all four programs. Jon Stewart’s Daily Show squeaked in on that one because Liam Neeson was the guest and he spoke at length about his new film, “The Grey” where he fights wolves to the death, without a gun.

It was the season premiere of “Justified” that renewed my faith that America knows it needs a strong leader, regardless of the polls. All I could think is that Obama and Romney need to be forced to watch “Justified” until they confess their cluelessness about America and human nature.

I never underestimate the power of popular culture to influence even our elections.

My shout-out to all who are captive to the conventional wisdom that South Carolina “picks Presidents” is that this year is different.

2012 is a turning point in American history. I am not sure why anyone wants to be our next President. I confess, I just read the RealClearWorld entry by George Friedman of STRATFOR on Iran and the Straits of Hormuz. A RED squirrel suddenly claiming a new home? Well, that’s something for the record book!

I wish Gov. Perry another great debate on Thursday night, and know the veterans in SC will defy conventional wisdom and vote for the only man they know they can follow over the hill and into the line of fire:

We have only completed two laps of race. There is no Dominant figure that stands above the rest. Even if there were, he could still blow a tire.

Gov. Perry, Keep the stride. Stay in the race. You are are the only true Conservative in the pack. The only one we can really trust to shrink Government, control spending and protect our borders.

Thank you.

PLEASE STAY IN THE RACE

Governor stay the coarse. You heading into the south states and will find a much friendlier reception.

Gov, Perry please stay in the race so to give

those of us in latter states the right to choose who we want to vote for. Please, please ignore all those(pundits, candidates, etc)who ask for any of you to drop out and help their chosen “one”. Being a staunch states rights candidate, I feel you will heed our call. If it’s a money issue call on the Nug, and your entertainer friends to fundraise for you. We are tired of getting to vote for the leftovers!

Governor Perry please

Next time, Newt says “consolidate behind a conservative”, just look at him and say…unless “Jeez Newt, unless No Child Left Behind, unfunded Medicare Part D, Individual mandates, and supporting Freddie Mac are conservative, there is only one conservative in this race and it is the Governor of Texas not the four big government insiders from Washington.” Simply, Governor Perry is the only small government conservative running for President in 2012.

Gov. Perry please stay in the race!

You are the ONLY true conservative choice!

I vote on Super Tuesday and it’s silly to think that this will be decided by then.

Earnestly praying for you and your campaign!

The real solution is to restore the Constitution

timelyrenewed (Diary) Wednesday, January 18th at 1:13PM EST (link)

The problem goes much deeper than an out-of-control EPA, and the solution must go deeper than simply replacing the current administration. The EPA’s imperious disregard of the Constitution is only one manifestation of a national government which has expanded far beyond its original constitutional bounds. We can only hope to be permanently free of such bureaucratic overreach when we restore the original limits on the national government which have been stripped away by Supreme Court decisions since 1937. The Supreme Court jurisprudence allowing the unlimited growth of federal power is deeply entrenched. The only sure recourse is constitutional amendments restating the original constitutional limits on federal power. See http://www.timelyrenewed.com.

Who Are The Real People Who Believe in The Constitution?

carolynr Wednesday, January 18th at 1:26PM EST (link)

Two…Governor Perry and Ron Paul. The rest of these guys have circumvented it.

Are you kidding? Have you read the many diaries on Ron Paul here? nt

I cannot believe this…the IMP is asking for another $500 billion in bailouts…AND THE TREASURY…according to article is going to dip into pension fund in order to cover debt.

WOW…talk about playing into Perry’s Ponzi Scheme scenario….this is too much.

Thank you, Gov Perry, for telling it like it is!

We here in VA are very disappointed that you won’t be on the primary ballot. However, we are hopeful that you will stay in the race for however long it takes to win this battle for all of us who want a true common-sense conservative in the WH. We want someone who tells it like it is, up front and personal..w/o sugarcoating the truth. I loved your book, “Fed UP!” and wish it was mandatory reading for ALL who will be voting in SC on Saturday and thereafter. We are conservatives who want to see our President following the Constitution, and you have proven you know how to do that very well. I believe you are true to your principles, w/o regard to consequences; and I respect people w/good ‘ole common sense solutions, which you have provided. To quote Ralph Waldo Emerson: “Nothing astonishes men so much as common sense and plain dealing!” We are praying for you to have a strong showing in SC on Saturday; and whatever happens, we pray you march on into FL! Never give up or give in as the battle is yet to be won! Godspeed!

Do not let them run you out Perry, you are the only chance we have to put a conservative in the White House

and until you cannot run anymore you should stay in, if not only to give us a voice. I think Newt is a fraud, and you would do this country a favor if you do not allow him to become the nominee. Newt would destroy everything we have worked for since Obama got elected. Think about what it means to have Newt as the nominee,

I’m a proud supporter of Rick Perry. God Bless everyone.

“We the people” tell the government what to do, it doesn’t tell us. We the people are the driver, the government is the car. And we decide where it should go, and by what route, and how fast.” Ronald Reagan’s farewll adress (January 11, 1989)

Keep talking you are on a roll

Governor Perry,
If you have the money please stay in the race. Newt & Mittens are going to continue fighting while you talk of Jobs and ridding Americans of Obama. That second chance will come. Don’t listen to the news medias or anyone except your “inner voice”. When it says that it is time to get out, then go.
Where are all the money backers that wanted you to get in? If they still believe in you, then they should go rogue and add billions to your campaign. They should also get to every mic available and scream your praises. You are the only candidate with a message that can save this country. I thought that was their motivation in helping you get in the race.
Our prayers are with you.
