I think the symbolism of the elephant muddles

the message here a bt, since Republicans are against Cap & Tax. I think I would have used a donkey, Red State readers would know it was a play on “Elephant in the room.”

I'd prefer not saying that the U.S. is rejecting help

RedBeard Monday, June 14th at 9:32AM EST (link)

Yes, I know I’m being a bit anal here, but it really is more accurate to say that Obama and his gang of thugs are rejecting help, against the wishes and best interests of the people of the U.S.

But then, he’s doing pretty much everything against the wishes and best interests of the people, so why should this be any different?

By the way, the Cap-’n-Tax reference is dead on. Rahm’s dirty little underhanded “crisis” plan is coming together.

Standard-bearer for grouchy curmudgeonry since, oh, 1975 or so.

Why get help when you want disaster,

A golden opportunity to destroy what’s left of the American energy industry, New land based oil exploration has been virtually shut down, and now a moratorium on off shore drilling, an answer to to a liberal sadists prayer, with new regs coming.
Start shopping for your little electric bumper car now & watch out for members of the ruling class speeding past you in those Lincoln Continentals.
Oh, the ecstasy of causing hardship to millions.

Stop krap and trade

IF 43 voted to strip the EPA of “controlling” emissions, then a cloture vote can be broken.

little o did not accept the Dutch and Dutch Shell Oil offer of help 3 days after the leak because little o DOES NOT WANT TO FIX THE LEAK OR STOP THE DAMAGE. It all suits his agenda. And 3 days after the leak occurred, o was too busy playing golf and did not even know anything had happened.

Call Cong. daily. I doubt they can pull the same sh*t with energy that they did with Obamanationcare in forcing “energy” through. But remember, the House already voted for its monstrous krap and trade. We have to stop the Sen.

Unions Blocking oil cleanup ships in the Gulf of Mexico

http://dailycaller.com/2010/06/11/are-unions-impeding-oil-cleanup-efforts-in-the-gulf-of-mexico/

President Obama is impeding clean-up efforts in the Gulf by kowtowing to unions and members of the American maritime industry, critics have charged in recent days. At issue is the president’s refusal to waive the Jones Act, a century-old law that effectively bars foreign-owned ships from moving between U.S. ports, a necessary component of participating in the cleanup effort.

When asked why President Obama hasn’t waived the Jones Act — which President Bush put on hold to facilitate Katrina rescue efforts — White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said a suspension wasn’t necessary.

But Sen. Bill Nelson, Florida Democrat, and others say the act is keeping boats from getting on the water to lay boom and skim oil. In a letter to the Coast Guard’s Thad Allen, Nelson wrote:

Admiral, I believe the orange mousse of oil that is now in Florida’s waters is more than enough evidence that we need to take advantage of every appropriate global resource. Please advise as to whether we are taking full advantage of the offers of assistance from other countries.

The point cannot be made often enough: Modern liberalism, as embodied in the Obama presidency, is the defender of the status quo. And the status quo is a road to economic ruin. Political forces cannot redistribute the wealth that the economic system does not produce.

Hmm..

1. because international help is really the US. We are the might of the world — and the world’s wallet, even if we’re in debt.

2. The UN will do nothing but pass a resolution, get us to ratify the UN Convention of the Sea, or modify any and all applicable conventions and international law to cover an oil spill like this — which they don’t, currently. Is that what we want? International jurisdiction over our oil spills?

3. Just like the MSM, you sorta know what’s going on behind the scenes by what’s not being mentioned.

Which means this: if the MSM knows something about international efforts, they’re not going to say. If the international community is doing something, they’re not going to say, either.

So, yeah — of course it’s curious “the international community isn’t doing anything.” We peons don’t know about it. It’s the elitists and intellectuals who are in the know.

4. Socialists love to never waste a crisis. This thing is going to hit the US hard. Obama’s using the Gulf as a backdrop.

Think of it as one, huge oil painting.

Nice toon — I can’t figure out who’s ears are bigger. Wish I could say the same about the brains.

And on second thought …

if this is about rejecting Dutch help, this is mega crisis.

Everything to the socialists’ benefit.

the only elephants in The Gulf are being studiously ignored by the donkey in the White House.

1000 lb elephant anology, or the 800 lb gorilla (then, of course I’d be “Raaaaacist”). I knew the elephant would send a little mixed message (it being the icon for the Republican party and all). Maybe I should start using “1000 lb donkey in the room” references instead.

for future reference, because of the high caliber of your work, you should make a note that the “1,000 pound” qualifier is not used in the standard “elephant in the [...] room” expression. That would make a really small elephant, sort of a toddler, smaller than the average horse, and not the ~8,000 pound average adult male African elephant–impossible to ignore in a room–on whose bulk the phrase partly turns.
