Tucker Carlson Says Out Loud What the AOCs of the World Won't About What Defunding Police Really Looks Like

My RedState colleague Nick Arama wrote Sunday about a ridiculous claim made by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) regarding the rising crime rate in New York City, a claim made as Mayor Bill de Blasio prepares to “shift” $1 billion in funding away from the NYPD.

“Maybe this has to do with the fact that people aren’t paying their rent and are scared to pay their rent and so they go out, and they need to feed their child and they don’t have money so … they feel like they either need to shoplift some bread or go hungry,” the freshman Congresswoman said during a virtual town hall meeting last Thursday.

She also insinuated that the spike in crime had nothing to do with the budget cuts for the NYPD, which haven’t yet taken effect. She said nothing, however, about the disbanding of the NYPD anti-crime unit, and how the anti-police rhetoric coming from Democratic politicians have hurt police morale, and is causing officers to resign/retire or to consider doing so out of disgust.

Ocasio-Cortez’s rhetoric on what’s causing the crime spike and how the left’s push to defund the police allegedly has nothing to do with it does not match reality, of course, but there aren’t many in the AOC-adoring mainstream media who are willing to fact check her or otherwise call her out.

Fortunately, Tucker Carlson isn’t into coddling politicians on either side of the aisle, and AOC in particular was on his radar Monday night.

Carlson began his program with a blistering monologue in which he referenced more of AOC’s comments from last week’s town hall, including what she said about what she thought a city that had defunded the police would ideally look like. Here’s what she said:

“It’s funny because when people ask me, what does a world where we defund the police — where, you know, defunding police looks like? I tell them, it looks like a suburb.”

Carlson launched into providing some background on AOC and how she grew up in what many on her side of the aisle would call a “privileged” community, one that didn’t have a police force because it was protected by one that protects the bigger community around it:

Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the voice of the streets, actually grew up in an idyllic little town 45 miles north of New York City. It’s called Yorktown Heights.

You would never know it from listening to her recent race-baiting, but the population of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s hometown is over 90 percent white. The median family income there is more than double the national average. Real estate listing show million dollar homes on big pieces of gated property.

[…]

It looks like a suburb.

Unfortunately, not everyone lives in a suburb as placid and protected as the one Sandy Cortez grew up in, with all the bake sales and pool parties.

Cities like St. Louis and Baltimore are more violent than El Salvador, and they’re getting more dangerous by the day. In Milwaukee, homicides have risen nearly 40 percent just this year.

Carslon went on to point out that in big Democrat-run cities like New York and Chicago and Los Angeles, the politicians who are the most vocal about defunding the police do so with the thought in mind that even if every single dime is stripped from the police, that they (the Democratic politicians) will still be protected by their taxpayer-funded security detail, unlike average citizens who have to hope nothing happens and pray their 2nd amendment rights won’t be taken from them:

That will not affect Bill de Blasio though. His family will remain protected by armed security paid for by taxpayers.

So, will Sandy Cortez, so will Barack Obama. So will the rest of the politicians calling for taking away your protection.

[…]

Homeowners who try to protect themselves from violence are the real terrorists now and they must be punished. Increasingly, they are being punished.

He did a really good job laying out the duplicity of leftist politicians like AOC and de Blasio, who virtue signal about “reimagining policing” without telling their constituents what the devastating consequences will be for the communities the politicians don’t live in if it actually happens.
