New York Senator Chuck Schumer stepped in it on Friday night when the Senator panic-tweeted his demands for the replacement of Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s seat on the United States Supreme Court.

Ginsburg died Friday after a lengthy battle with Pancreatic Cancer.  She was 87.

Chuck Schumer took to Twitter immediately following the public announcement of Ginsburg’s death.

This was Schumer’s first tweet about the passing of the 27-year SCOTUS veteran.  Schumer didn’t comment on her death or offer condolences or a tribute to the life of Ginsburg.  Instead, he immediately politicized her seat as some political chess move.  A move, that could obviously affect the outcome of the coming election.

Eight minutes later, after facing immediate and intense backlash, Schumer returned to tweet a tribute to Ginsburg.

Schumer likely won’t be the only member of either House of Congress to politicize Ginsburg’s death in the coming days and weeks.  We are only witnessing the beginning of what can be expected to be a complete circus.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell also issued a statement, first praising and eulogizing Justice Ginsburg before stating the Senate would hold a floor vote on confirming Trump’s yet-to-be-named nominee.

Of Ginsburg, McConnell said:

“Justice Ginsburg overcame one personal challenge and professional barrier after another.  She climbed from a modest Brooklyn upbringing to a seat on our nation’s highest court and into the pages of American history.  Justice Ginsburg was thoroughly dedicated to the legal profession and her 27 years of service on the Supreme Court.  Her intelligence and determination earned her respect and admiration throughout the legal world, and indeed through the entire nation, which now grieves alongside her family, friends and colleagues.”

Americans can expect a fever-pitch situation coming to the upcoming election now that the added complexity of the Supreme Court seat and the fight over that will be front and center.  Stay tuned to RedState as we continue to cover and analyze the happenings related to this.
