Portland Reporting an Ugly Statistic That May Be a Direct Relation to Radical Defund Efforts

We’ve been seeing the skyrocketing crime results and, in particular, shootings in areas that have had riots and defunding the police calls such as in New York City, Minneapolis, and Chicago.

But what about Portland, the place that has been the epicenter of extremist radical leftist action?

It was relatively quiet on Sunday night from a riot perspective and had far fewer people out.

But, unfortunately, The Oregonian is reporting an ugly statistic for July.

Portland had a higher number of homicides in July than they had during any other one-month period over the last 30 years. There’s also been a surge in assaults, burglaries, vandalism, and shootings.

As of July 30, 15 people were killed in Portland in July alone, according to The Oregonian. They’ve already had 24 killings for this year. There were 63 shootings so far this month compared to 28 in July 2019, according to the Police Bureau, more than double last year.

This followed the City Council voting to cut $15 million from the police budget acceding to the leftist push to defund the police, including cutting the Gun Violence Reduction team which went into effect on July 1. The Police Chief Chuck Lovell said that this was forced by the Council and that it has hurt the ability of the police to do follow up investigations. In response, he will be pulling officers from the detective division to assist.

New York City had a similar response almost immediately in June — after they cut their anticrime unit, the unit that primarily focused on proactively trying to stop shootings, their shootings skyrocketed, including the shooting death of one-year-old Davell Gardner, Jr. It’s been so bad that community activists have asked the police to reactivate the unit. That has not happened, however. The unit was dissolved as part of the push to “defund the police.”

How anyone can advocate defunding the police in the middle of riots and such spiraling statistics is incredible. Even if you believe there are issues with the police, how does taking away their money actually make them any better? It’s a completely illogical conclusion with a predictable result as we can see in all these cities.

It also means that the real aim isn’t to “reform” the police. It’s to heighten the chaos. But Democrats are helping enact all these moves being pushed by the radical left that are feeding the chaos.
