CNN's Jake Tapper Tried Another Effort at the Russian Bounty Story, But Ric Grenell Laid Him Out Flat

The Russian bounty story – that Russians were allegedly offering bounties to the Taliban to take out our military – was the big story of the day when it came out but then it was quickly deflated when the White House explained that the President had never been briefed about the claim because there was the claim wasn’t vetted. Then the Pentagon said there was “no corroborating evidence to validate” the claim. That pretty put paid to yet another floating media hoax.

But that hasn’t stopped folks on the left from pushing it as though it hadn’t been debunked.

It apparently didn’t stop CNN’s Jake Tapper who was trying to push it again on Friday night.

"It was never brought to my attention.”

Not true.

“I think it's another Russia hoax.“

Not true.

“‘It was never brought to my attention.’ Not true. ‘I think it’s another Russia hoax.’ Not true. Yes there is disagreement among Intel Community about GRU ‘bounties’ but there’s IC consensus that Russia is arming and funding the Taliban. Who are killing US servicemembers,” Tapper said.

See that? See the goalposts move? Can’t support the original claim: that Trump was told about Russian bounties and did nothing, now it’s “how can you say Russia is not helping the Taliban?” That wasn’t the original false claim.

Director of National Intelligence Ric Grenell let Tapper have it.

You haven’t seen the intel. You don’t know what you are talking about.

“You haven’t seen the intel,” Grenell blasted him. “You don’t know what you are talking about. Your network told Americans that Kim Jung Un was incapacitated and brain dead for weeks. And you said you had intel on it. Your intel ‘sources’ have agendas. And so do you.”

Nicely done.

Does Tapper really think he knows more than Grenell or the Pentagon? Seriously? As Grenell notes, here Tapper is opining without ever seeing the intel, but he still think he knows more. Fine, then produce the evidence for all to see, not “source said this (that no one can confirm).” People are tired of this at this point having seen it over and over and over again.

Thankfully, we finally have great people in charge at both the DOJ and in Intelligence.
