Swalwell: You Can't Hold It Against Bernie If Russia Prefers Him (But You Can Hold It Against Trump)

Democrats and media are trying to ratchet up the crazy over Russia again against President Donald Trump.

Except there’s a couple of small flies in the ointment.

The New York Times report claim – that Russia was trying to interfere on behalf of Trump in the 2020 election – was discredited from multiple sources including CNN’s Jake Tapper and Catherine Herridge.

Plus the WaPo is reporting that Russia is trying to interfere on behalf of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT). Sanders did confirm that he was apprised by U.S. officials of intelligence to that effect. Exactly what they are doing or how isn’t clear.

Mostly Russia is about sowing chaos. But if it’s anyone whose an operative, hint – probably not the guy who has built up the U.S. economy and military, dropped bombs on the heads of a few hundred Russians in Syria, who is for fracking, pipelines and coal, who is against the Iran Deal and supportive of Israel and who helped make NATO stronger by getting the member nations to pitch in more. As opposed to the guy who honeymooned in the Soviet Union and defended its positions for years, who wants to ban fracking, whose policies would destroy the economy.

But Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) doesn’t see it that way. He thinks that Bernie should be given a pass, but Trump, with the similar kind of report, he concludes is an “agent of Russia.” Talk about hypocrisy.

From Daily Caller:

“You can’t hold it against Bernie Sanders that this may be a preference of Russia, but you can hold it and ask questions of Donald Trump if he again is working as an agent of Russia by seeking not only one, to tweet at Bernie Sanders and try to amplify his campaign to get him to be a general election opponent but two, if he is indeed firing people on his staff who are telling others about Russia’s preferences,” Swalwell told CNN Friday.

Swalwell told CNN Friday that he couldn’t discuss the briefing, but said, “I did ask [FBI] Director [Christopher] Wray at a judiciary hearing if Russia was still interfering and he plainly said yes.” The congressman gives “credit to Bernie Sanders for disavowing what [Russia] was doing … and saying to Putin ‘I’m not going to put up with it.’”

Swalwell insisted, “The real question, though, is did Donald Trump know that Russia had a preference for Bernie Sanders? Donald Trump has for the past few months has constantly and not so subtly been tweeting that his preferred candidate is Bernie Sanders. Is he taking intelligence that he’s getting and feeding it back to be aligned with Russia so he gets the candidate he wants in the general [election]?”

So exactly why does Bernie Sanders get a pass from Democrats like Swalwell?

How hypocritical that he justifies a three year investigation of a hoax against Trump and still is pushing it, claiming Trump “acts on Russia’s behalf, but doesn’t feel that anyone should “hold it against” Sanders.

Can we say ridiculous double standard?

Hard to believe this guy ever got elected or ran for president.

From Twitchy:

This is the guy who just said last month that a vote to acquit Trump in his impeachment trial was “also a vote to acquit Russia,” since “letting Trump go free invites Russia to further weaponize misinformation.” He didn’t mention in his clown tweet that Russia was weaponizing misinformation on Sanders’ behalf, but Sanders, who honeymooned in the Soviet Union, is certainly no Russian agent like Trump. Glad we spent millions on the Mueller investigation to put that theory to rest.
