Actually, it’s past time for a national conversation about the blatant racism of the Democrat Party.
Way past time.
The objective of a national conversation would be further exposure of the left’s hypocrisy about all things race-related, rather than to change the minds of those guilty of it. Hopefully, such a conversation would lead to an increase in independents, fence-leaners, and other swing voters abandoning the Democrats.
Anyway, let’s take a trip in the Wayback Machine to October 11, 1991, when conservative Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas — he’s black [sarc] — was attacked by Democrat senators after a former co-worker accused Thomas of “conversations of a sexual nature or about pornographic material” and making inappropriate advances, which the soon-to-be associate justice vehemently and emotionally denied.
Thomas responded, in part:
From my standpoint as a black American, as far as I’m concerned, it is a high-tech lynching for uppity blacks who in any way deign to think for themselves, to do for themselves, to have different ideas, and it is a message that unless you kowtow to an old order, this is what will happen to you. You will be lynched, destroyed, [and] caricatured by a committee of the U.S. — U.S. Senate, rather than hung from a tree.
Justice Thomas was correct — and he remains even more so today. Ironically (but oh so predictably), the left’s despicable racist attacks against Thomas continue, too.
In the aftermath of the June 2022 5-4 majority Supreme Court Dobbs decision that formally overturned Roe v. Wade, angry protests erupted outside the Thomas family home, and Thomas was viciously attacked on social media, on “news” outlets CNN, MSNBC, and by multiple left-wing sites, and called unprintable racist names — and it was Justice Samuel Alito who wrote the majority opinion, not Justice Thomas.
South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott condemned the racist attacks on Thomas and other black conservatives in an interview with Fox News host Jesse Waters in June 2022, with many of his observations mirroring those of Thomas, 31 years earlier:
I certainly think that the greatest threat to the liberal coalition are Black conservatives who stand up and think for ourselves. We represent the fact that the African American community is not a monolithic community. If you can ever break the stronghold that the Democrats have on the African American community, the entire coalition falls apart.
And think about this, Jesse: President Biden’s approval ratings have never been lower in the African American community and the Hispanic community. The last thing [the Left wants] to see are people like Clarence Thomas, Ben Carson, and myself standing up and making common sense popular everywhere in the nation.
And oh, by the way, we happen to be Black. That is a great threat to the entire coalition on the Left. So they want to shut it down, cancel Clarence Thomas because he dares to think for himself.
Truer words have never been spoken. Scott also reflected on the character of Justice Thomas:
You think about what Justice Sotomayor said about Justice Thomas. She said he was kind, affable, first to celebrate the victories in your life — whether it’s your child’s birthday — he is such a warm-hearted person. Those were her comments, but the Clarence Thomas I have met is consistent with what she said.
This is a person who rose from abject poverty in rural Georgia to live the American Dream because in America, all things are possible. Clarence Thomas is a person who has affection for everyone, even those who disagree with him, because he understands that you can disagree without being disagreeable. Clarence Thomas is a class act.
Needless to say, Sen. Tim Scott is a class act, as well. Incidentally, with Scott’s Tuesday announcement of an exploratory committee in preparation for a 2024 presidential run, it’s a safe bet that the racist attacks against the South Carolinian will explode beyond any he’s yet experienced.
Scott was right to include Dr. Ben Carson as an example — and there are plenty more names to add to the list, including Florida Republican Rep. Byron Donalds, who in February dared Democrat lawmakers to call him “racist” to his face.
And let’s not forget black conservative talk-radio host and former California gubernatorial candidate Larry Elder, who was called everything from a “black face on white supremacy” to, again, unprintable descriptors. Influential black conservative commentators like Thomas Sowell, Shelby Steele, Armstrong Williams, Walter Williams, and Candace Owens have been targeted with racist epithets, as well, and as I suggested, the list continues to grow.
And don’t even get me started on MSNBC race-hustler extraordinaire, Joy Reid.
So here’s the salient question:
Why do Democrat left-wingers rush to wail about “Racism!” and “White Supremacy!” and spew other racist bile at conservatives at the drop of a hypocritical hat, yet are perfectly fine themselves with hurling racist crap at black conservatives?
Hugo Gurdon, editor-in-chief of the Washington Examiner, nailed it:
Democrats hurl the insults “racism” and “racist” at conservatives and their policies. It’s their weapon of choice in political argument, and they reach lazily for it whether they’re debating fiscal policy, medical outcomes, school admissions, or pretty much anything else.
They claim racism is pervasive and is, indeed, America’s foundation stone, so the accusation always seems apt to them.
But their own racism is at least as ugly as what you find on the Right. Unlike Right-wing racism, Left-wing racism is not confined to the fringes but has been woven into the fabric of what it means to be a mainstream Democrat. Without it, just to take one obvious example, the displacement of “equality” by “equity” would be impossible.
Again, truer words have never been spoken.
“Hatred of Thomas is due to Democrats’ fear of him,” Gurdon correctly observed, adding:
They divide Americans into victim groups to whom they make their appeal, so it is vital that black people form a bloc, monolithic in its opinions. Thomas, a descendant of slaves, who lived a childhood of poverty in rural Georgia, is therefore regarded as a race traitor for thinking outside his group and coming to well-reasoned conservative conclusions. For this, he is branded an “Uncle Tom.”
And worse.
The Bottom Line
To borrow Justice Thomas’s descriptor, “uppity black” conservatives who have the audacity to refuse to live on the Democrat plantation must be dismissed, ignored, ridiculed, or destroyed for refusing to toe the left-wing line. Why? Because anyone or anything that flies in face of the left-wing narrative is a direct threat to the Democrat Party and its decades of lies. It really is that simple.
Toss in the reality that the depth of Democrat hypocrisy knows no bounds, and there you have it.
