What Happened to Our Country?

Dr. Seuss books, Mrs. Butterworth’s Syrup, Uncle Ben’s Rice, beloved-by-generations Aunt Jemima. Gone in a flash. A collective stain on America and a danger to American society. And even more ominously: a danger to America’s children in their formative years.

God knows what might happen to the children of America if they continue to eat “racist” syrup, “racist” butter, “racist” pancake mix, “racist” rice, or play with “misogynist” (and no doubt “racist”) toy potatoes, and watch a perverted cartoon French skunk do his deviant damnedest to turn the little boys of America into future, misogynistic, raving-mad rapists.

Yet we’re good to go with those very same kids watching barely-dressed women, barely-not having sex while disgustingly writhing on a stage on national television, in all of their “artistic” glory. Even worse, viewed by many as “ground-breaking entertainment.”

What the hell happened to our country?

And the left’s sick, paranoid addiction to all things race is insane and getting more so by the day. “Wokeness” and cancel culture are out of control. When Keith Olbermann  — of all people — declares “wokeness” and cancel culture “draconian and foolish?” Yeah, “wokeness” and cancel culture are draconian, foolish, and far worse.

Digital “book-burning” is out of control. Censorship of conservative thought and opinion, along with any content the left doesn’t want you to see, read, experience, or be exposed to, is out of control. A smug, left-wing 36-year-old with ice water in his veins is the supreme leader of a social media platform with roughly 2.8 billion monthly active users as of the fourth quarter of 2020, and he is arguably the most powerful human being on the planet.

That is insane. It is all insane. And it will get even more insane before any of it has a chance of getting saner. Perhaps it will take decades. Maybe generations. If we are ever to return to a semblance of sanity at all, that is. Morally, intellectually, logically, decently.

What the hell happened to our country?

Today’s Democrat Party is all but run by Marxists, begat by the hippie generation of the mid-to-late 1960s, many of whom went on to become an insidious collective cancer in the no-longer hallowed halls of academia. They and their equally-radical heirs are hellbent on destroying public education. They are imposing radical “critical race theory” on our kids.

They will never be satisfied. The more they get, the more they will take.

We have an addled man who sits behind the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office, signing radical edict after radical edict — all of which are shoved in front of him by down-line tools of the radical left, all-too-eager to do their bidding. The radical left is pushing Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats to eliminate the filibuster, thereby reducing the once-proud senior chamber of Congress to little more than a Democrat-wannabe-version of Nancy Pelosi’s House of Representatives. They are working feverishly to gut federal election law in likely-unconstitutional ways that not long ago would have been unthinkable in America.

And they are forcing America’s girls to compete with boys pretending to be girls in girls’ sports. “The Party of Women’s Rights™”, no less.

What the hell happened to our country?

In January, we saw a group of patriotic Americans, most of them armed with nothing more than misinformation and misguided beliefs that led to “demands” that were never going to happen — argue amongst yourselves on that one if you must; I am done litigating it — and were promptly labeled by the Democrat Party and its lapdog media as everything from shop-worn “white supremacists” to “seditious insurrectionists,” and worse.

Yet all last summer — under “the big lie” about a black man in Minneapolis being murdered by suffocation (the completely wrong “I can’t breathe” narrative) by a racist, white supremacist cop — we saw rampaging rioters in city after city, do their damnedest to burn those once-proud cities to the ground; every one them run by far-left mayors and city governments who all but donned cheerleading uniforms, grabbed BLM pom-poms, and rushed to the streets to cheer on Black Lives Matter Marxists and Antifa anarchists as the burning, looting, and indiscriminate murder continued.

Worse, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Socialist Barbie (AOC) and her “Squad,” most of the rest of the Democrat Party, and as usual, the sock-puppet state media — “The Most Trusted Name in News” (CNN), PMSNBC, and the usual left-wing print media — week after week, month after month, had the obscene audacity to pronounce the chaos “peaceful protests.” To defend Marxists and anarchists as “peaceful protesters.” All in the name of the battle against “systemically-racist” America.

What the hell happened to our country?

And now? How laugh-out-loud insane would have been the notion — right up until it actually happened — of a surge of illegal aliens (exactly as they are identified in federal immigration statutes), at the U.S.-Mexico border, dressed in “Biden 2020” campaign T-Shirts, to which had been added, “Please Let Us In!,” demanding that the president of the United States fulfill his campaign promises — to THEM?

That. Is. Insane.

Can you imagine that hilarious phone call between Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping?

“Don’t come.” Really, Joe? What the hell did you think was going to happen?

You spent your entire miserable, mumbling campaign playing Pied Piper Moses for illegal aliens, all but promising you were going to erect — “on day one” — one-way, northbound people movers all along the US-Mexico border, then warmly welcome illegals, with festive streamers and mariachi bands, and hand sacks of money to them when they get here.

What did you expect?

As YOUR crisis intensified, you and your WAY-in-over-her-head, smug-ass White House press secretary continued your bob-and-weave kabuki dance, as you lied — yes, LIED — while YOUR crisis continued to worsen, laughingly refusing to call it what it what, is, and will remain. Your crisis. Self-created. On purpose.

And, hey — it worked like a charm. Good job, Joe. And the worst part? You know exactly why you did it, beginning early in your incoherent joke of a campaign, we know why you did, and you know we know why you did it. The same reason you and your pandering party do everything you do. You’ll never admit it, of course. No Democrat ever admits it. Political expediency and the voting booth. Exactly as the Democrat Party has done for more than six decades by exploiting black America with divisive rhetoric and hollow promises, none of which were ever intended to be kept. Speaking of black America, how’s that all worked out?

Although, we talked a bit about it at the beginning. Wouldn’t want to circle back, you know.

Finally, my dad was a proud, patriotic member of “The Greatest Generation” — a term used to describe those Americans who grew up during the Great Depression and fought in World War II, or whose labor helped win it. The term is thought to have been coined by former NBC Nightly News anchor and author Tom Brokaw, in his book by the same name.

My dad grew up in Dyer, Indiana, a town of fewer than 1,000 residents at the time, nestled on the Indiana-Illinois border in the northwest corner of the state. As a barely-22-year-old Marine tank driver, Eddie Miller and his tank crew hit the beach on Iwo Jima in the South Pacific on day-one of what would prove to be one of the bloodiest and costliest battles of WW II. Many of his friends and fellow-Marines died on that black-sand volcanic island during those 36 days. He lost multiple hometown friends in the European Theater, as well.

Many of them had never ventured all that far from Dyer before the war.

My dad had a hard time understanding the Vietnam War. He knew from experience that America didn’t fight wars that way. He knew that when America fought, America won. It was all he had ever known. So in the beginning, my dad and his young know-it-all, anti-war son (that would be me) “debated” the war, fiercely. In the end, we were not only in agreement; we had also both changed. For the good. And we agreed about what was good for America.

I could go on — as we all could, about our lives. But suffice it to say, if Marine Corps Corp. Eddie Miller came back to visit his son, the first question he would ask would be:

“What the hell happened to our country, Michael?”

And after I explained, as best I could, his second question would be:

“Why did you let them do it?”
