An Ohio mother who drove an hour and a half to watch her seventh-grade son play football was tased and arrested for reportedly refusing to wear a mask. Did I mention the football game was played outside?

As reported by the Ohio Star, Alecia Kitts was rooting for her son’s visiting team from the Marietta City School District when she was reportedly approached by a police officer for not wearing a mask.

In the video below, Kitts appears to be properly “social distancing” from other families in the stands.

The encounter gets physical as the police officer attempts to arrest Kitts, and she resists. Kitts repeatedly tells the officer to “get off of me!” and at one point screams: “You’re not arresting me for nothing, I ain’t doing nothing wrong!”

After a two-minute struggle, the officer tases Kitts. “Tasing this lady over not wearing a damn mask,” a witness can be heard saying.

Tiffany Kennedy, the woman who took the video, told the Ohio Star that Kitts had not been warned for not wearing a mask prior to the officer approaching her. Kennedy also said that Kitts has asthma and that was why she was not wearing a mask.

Kennedy was hot:

“There is no reason to tase someone and arrest them for not wearing a mask. Alecia’s mom said that when the officer tased her, the current went through the bleachers and zapped the kid sitting there too.”

Kennedy pointed out that the female officer who is shown running toward the arresting officer and Kitts at the end of the video was not wearing a mask — only pulling one out of her pocket as she ran.

As reported by The Blaze, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R) issued a mandatory mask order on July 22. All individuals in Ohio must wear facial coverings in public at all times when:

  • At an indoor location that is not a residence
  • Outdoors, but unable to maintain a six-foot social distance from people who are not household members
  • Waiting for, riding, driving, or operating public transportation, such as a taxi, a car service, or a private car used for ride-sharing

The order requires only those 10 years old or older to wear a mask. Additional exclusions include:

  • Those with a medical condition or a disability or those communicating with someone with a disability
  • Those who are actively exercising or playing sports
  • Those who are officiants at religious services
  • Those who are actively involved in public safety
  • Those who are actively eating or drinking

Kitts was reportedly charged with criminal trespass and released on her own recognizance. Several questions come to mind.

If Kitts was properly social distancing — as the case appears to be in the video — why was she ordered by a police officer to put on a mask?

If Kitts is asthmatic, did she tell the officer? If not, why not? If she did tell the cop and was also properly social distancing, why was she hassled, tased, and arrested?

If Kitts was guilty as sin, was it really necessary for a male police officer to tase her, apparently in front of at least one of her children, for not wearing a mask?

Hopefully, Alecia Kitts learned a lesson. The next time she ventures outside without a mask, she better grab a couple of Molotov cocktails and a few bricks — and head for the nearest “peaceful protest.”
