Let’s just say the whole thing didn’t turn out quite the way 18-year-old Oregonian Josiah Johnson envisioned it going down.

Before it was over, the teenager was shot with his own weapon, after allegedly pointing the duct-taped handgun at the back of a taxi driver’s head — after trying to pay for his ride with a counterfeit $100 bill. The driver attempted to disarm Johnson, and a struggle ensued.

During the struggle, the gun discharged — striking Johnson. The bullet entered his left hip and exited out his left buttock. Ouch.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

According to the media release from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the cab driver told deputies he had picked up Johnson for a long ride. As is customary, the driver asked the teenager for pre-payment or collateral, at which time Johnson gave him his cell phone.

When they arrived at the destination, Johnson tried to pay with a counterfeit $100 bill. The driver immediately recognized the bill was fake. That’s when all hell broke loose, as detailed in the media release.

Mr. Johnson pulled a gun out and pointed it at the back of the cab driver’s head. Mr. Johnson was yelling at the cab driver, but the cab driver was unable to understand Mr. Johnson. The cab driver told deputies he saw an opportunity to grab the gun from Mr. Johnson, so he did.

A struggle occurred over the gun, and during the struggle, the gun discharged – striking Mr. Johnson. The bullet entered Mr. Johnson’s left hip and exited out his left buttocks.

Both Mr. Johnson and the cab driver exited the vehicle, where the struggle continued. The cab driver was able to get the gun away from Mr. Johnson, throw it away from both of them, and yell for help.

Community members from a nearby home heard the commotion and went to see what was going on. The community members helped the cab driver hold Mr. Johnson down and called 911. Deputies arrived shortly after.

Yeah, that didn’t turn out the way the dude thought it would, for sure.

Moreover, after Johnson was arrested at the scene and transported to a local hospital, where he was treated and released, he was booked into the Washington County jail on the following charges.

• Robbery in the first degree
• Assault in the fourth degree
• Menacing
• Unlawful use of a weapon
• Criminal possession of a forged instrument in the first degree
• Possession of a controlled substance – schedule IV

In a weird, summer of 2020 kind of way, this isn’t all that bad of a story. I mean, how encouraging is it to know that there are still common thieves in Oregon who attempt to commit stupid crimes, as opposed to anarchists who want to destroy America as we know it?
