Illegal Immigration Math

There are many negative aspects that result from the problems we have with illegal immigration down here in Arizona.  Here is one:

I live north of Sierra Vista, AZ and drive up and down Hwy 90 each day to commute to work.

I go to work about 50 weeks out of the year five days a week.  (50 x 5 = 250 days)

There is a Border Patrol checkpoint on Hwy 90 that I must drive through each day in order to get home.  When I drive through it at around 5:15 pm it is backed up and it can take between 5 to 15 minutes for me to get through it.  Let’s just take the low end of 5 minutes for the calculation.   The checkpoint is up and running about 95 percent of the time.

.95 up time  x 250 days = 237.5 (round down) 237 days per year

237 days x 5 min/day = 1185 minutes

1185 min / 60 min/hour = 19.75 hours per year I wait in that line. (at a minimum)

That’s about one half of a work week I and every other person driving through that checkpoint looses each year waiting in line.  I am happy the Border Patrol has a presence down here, but this and all the other checkpoints are just Band-Aids for a huge problem.

One of the Federal Government’s responsibilities is to protect the borders of this country.  You cannot tell me we don’t have the capability to keep illegal immigrants out.  Our elected politicians just don’t have the will or political desire to do it.  I am sick of politicians, like our Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords (D), who just pay lip service to this issue.

These illegals are an invading force.  They bring in crime.  They bring in drugs.  They place a financial burden on Arizona taxpayers because they make us use our State resources to deal with them.
