Congratulations 'Burn it all Down' Crowd: You are redeeming 'The Establishment, not destroying it....

Over the past few days, I’ve seen a number of people posting how they are eager to do ‘maximum damage to DC’ and thus are ‘Cruz or Trump’ supporters.

Now, I am NOT speaking of ideologically motivated Cruz partisans here. While we have our legitimate differences (which I am not going to get into – the intent of this was NOT to create another Rubio vs Cruz thread), you guys are generally honest Conservatives & motivated by a solid and rational ideological foundation…

I am speaking of the folks who are motivated pure anger at ‘Washington DC’, and thus are choosing their candidate based on some fantasy about ‘wrecking balls’ and ‘breaking the system’.

Out of pure rage, they would rather wreck the Republican Party than try to color within the lines…

The presumption seems to be that somehow, if they ‘defeat’ the preemptively-hated ‘Establishment’ (which to-a-T they are usually mad at over something related to immigration), it will all be candy & roses ever-after…

Sorry, not going to happen.

What *IS* going to happen, is that the longer Trump stays alive, the more the DC Establishment starts looking like a desperately needed ally we need in our fight against him & the more angry we are going to get with YOU (not them).

For many of us, that fight won’t end at the Convention. If he’s elected, we’re still going to oppose him as if he was Obama reincarnated.

For folks like myself – for whom sound economic policy is one of the major draws of conservatism – everything about Trump is an anathema. The stupid border-wall. Internet censorship. Tariffs. Higher minimum wage. Socialized healthcare. Blasting Carrier for doing-the-right-thing by their shareholders & moving production to Mexico. A massive hit-parade of folksy-Facebook-meme stupid & none of it can be allowed to become law unless you really WANT a Great Depression Redux right after Trump leaves office…

For others, it’s the fact that he’s pro-choice, a fraud, con-man & a predatory horn-dog of Bill Clinton proportions…

And for some it’s all-of-the-above.

If Trump gets elected, who would we possibly be able to work with, to block him?

On the wall & restrictions on legal immigration, the Democrats provide enough NO votes to stop him dead in his tracks… And whatever liberal idiot he puts on the Supreme Court to replace Scalia won’t back him up on executive-orders if those orders contradict liberal dogma (Something he’s too dumb to realize)…

Beyond that, if perchance a ‘comprehensive reform’ bill were to start rolling through Congress (Say, headed for a veto-proof majority), would the people who’s political party you just ‘took a wrecking ball to’ over immigration *really* stand up to help you stop it? We’re generally opposed to amnesty – but (cue Batman Begins) just because we don’t support it doesn’t mean we have to fight it…

On Economic issues, the Democrats would be *with* Trump, and the Establishment is our only ally…

The Chamber of Commerce & the ‘Establishment’ GOP, on the other hand? Now you’re talking… The libertarian Koch network? Deal. Glad to have you with us… Any Democrats more beholden to Wall Street than to screaming undergrad cry-babies? Those votes will be useful too…

Even if this nightmare scenario does not take hold, we will need the Establishment’s money & support to fight this out in the primaries. If it takes making peace with the establishment to stop Trump, so be it…

The net effect of trying to ‘burn it all down’ in a damn Presidential cycle, will be to force what’s left of intellectual conservatism to join forces with Mitch McConnell & Co & make their ‘Crush Them!’ vision from 2014 a reality.
