Before reading the rest of this diary please take a moment to read what I posted the last time we got our asses handed to us.

All of that is still valid, things haven’t changed a bit. My experience with the ORCA app was quite different. I arrived at the polls approximately 5:45 and was able to tick off voters all day. I didn’t once experience a crash. Sure, I had to re-authenticate a couple of times throughout the day but that’s par for the course. The application itself wasn’t earth-shattering, but quite adequate for our purposes.

The real problem was that I was only hitting 1:30 voters. That’s terrible. Upon launch the app was supposed to populate the names of every voter in my assigned precinct. I came across two names of particular interest. They were interesting because I knew for a fact that they haven’t lived in Virginia for the past 7 years, and the reason I know this is that I bought their house when they moved to Pennsylvania.

Analytical applications start and end with the quality of data they’re operating on. If the data is crap, you’re going to get crap results, which is exactly what happened. Garbage in, garbage out.

I’m done volunteering for GOTV work. Never again. It’s not like this is the first time that the GOP has heard that their voter lists are crap. This was identified over and over again, at length, last cycle. If they don’t care enough to correct these odious and obvious problems then they deserve the trip to the tar pits that they’re apparently about to take.

To the GOP: call me when you’re ready to take this seriously.
