Once a moderate, always a moderate.
Illinois RINO congressman Adam Kinzinger told the Ottawa Times this week during a swing through the southern portion of the 16th congressional district that he would be perfectly fine with more background checks to purchase a firearm, so long as they were constitutional.
U.S. [mc_name name=’Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL)’ chamber=’house’ mcid=’K000378′ ], R-Channahon, said he is not opposed to having an “open debate” on whether or not stricter background checks could prevent terrorists and those suffering from mental illnesses from obtaining firearms.
“If we have to strengthen background checks then that’s something we ought to talk about,” he said.
He went on to say any regulations put into place should not violate the U.S. Constitution.
“One thing I’m not going to do is violate the Second Amendment, which says you have the right to keep and bear arms,” he said.
Square peg, round hole anyone.
Since the San Bernardino terrorist attack President Obama, congressional Democrats, and their counterparts in the Illinois House have been pushing for more background checks, and to ban people from getting a gun if they are on terrorist watch lists, that are often rife with errors, as well as renewing the lefts push to ban “assault rifles”.
As I reported over the weekend the IL House Dem bill would allow the Illinois State Police to confiscate the FOID cards and guns of people on the lists, if the legislation ever became law; highly doubtful with Bruce Rauner, a Republican, as Governor.
