In the wake of Tea Party conservatives compelling Speaker of the House [mc_name name=’Rep. John Boehner (R-OH)’ chamber=’house’ mcid=’B000589′ ] to announce his retirement at the end of October on Friday Illinois Republican congressman Adam Kinzinger told the Chicago Sun Times over the weekend that Boehner’s ouster was “Senseless legislative hostage taking”, that would only make the Republican Party smaller.

North Carolina congressman [mc_name name=’Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC)’ chamber=’house’ mcid=’M001187′ ] and the House Freedom Caucus lead by Ohio’s [mc_name name=’Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH)’ chamber=’house’ mcid=’J000289′ ] are credited with pressuring Boehner relentlessly to stand up for conservative principles and to fight President Obama instead of constantly surrendering without a fight.

Kinzinger told Chuck Sweeny of the Rockford Register Star that those 40 or so conservative Tea Party members of the House were “exotics” that don’t understand how to govern and that absent having 60 votes in the Senate and the Presidency they simply aren’t going to get the things that they want, such as defunding Planned Parenthood.

Kinzinger told the Sun-Times that the House conservatives and by implication their allies in the conservative grassroots such as Heritage Action, the Tea Party Patriots, FreedomWorks, and others were more interested, “With overthrowing the Speaker than advancing our conservative agenda.”

That conservative agenda includes the continuation of $500 million in federal taxpayer funding to Planned Parenthood, the reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank, Obamatradeamnesty, and the undertaking of no effort to undo the Supreme Courts nationalization of same sex marriage, and will almost certainly include an increase in the debt limit before Boehner leaves.

Kinzinger said on Friday that [mc_name name=’Rep. John Boehner (R-OH)’ chamber=’house’ mcid=’B000589′ ]’s been a “Great leader”.

If that’s leadership, I’d love to know what Kinzinger considers abject failure.

*Kinzinger told Sweeny that he expects [mc_name name=’Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA)’ chamber=’house’ mcid=’M001165′ ] to be the next Speaker, as an loyal leadership yesman Kinzinger will almost certainly back McCarthy.
