With Congress in its August recess that means that congressman Adam Kinzinger is back home in the 16th CD and he’s again saying stupid stuff, in this case he is telling lies about the size of the amount of money the government waste each year and lying about the benefits of the Export-Import Bank.
On Wednesday he told the LaSalle News Tribune:
Government funding and sequester caps on spending will loom large this fall as the federal budget year ends Sept. 30, Kinzinger said.
Despite some perceptions, waste, fraud, abuse and foreign aid account for less than 1 percent of the federal budget, he said.
“I would argue that foreign aid is a lot cheaper than going to war,” said Kinzinger, who has flown missions with the U.S. Air Force in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Being an establishment RINO, and Jeb Bush support, Kinzinger has been a fan of and supporter of middle management style governance so naturally he would like to downplay the waste the occurs each year in the federal government so he and others don’t ever have to do anything about it.
The Government Accountability Office says in 2014 alone the federal government misspent $125 billion just in improper payments. Breitbart News has reported that two-thirds of those improper payments occur each year at the Department of Health and Human Services.
Then there are the billions annually that the IRS gives out in fraudulent tax credits to criminals, fraudsters, and illegal immigrants. Hundreds of millions in taxpayer dollars have been given to “green energy” companies who have failed in recent years such as Solyndra and 20 others.
To say that all of this waste, the rampant fraud, plus foreign aid which accounts for tens of billions itself annually, is a small deal, a less than one percent kind of deal, is being disingenuous to say the least.
And then on Thursday Kinzinger lied to Chuck Sweeny of the Rockford Register Star about the supposed benefits of the Export-Import Bank to small businesses:
Reauthorizing the Export-Import Bank is crucial to manufacturers’ ability export products to compete with the rest of the world, U.S. [mc_name name=’Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL)’ chamber=’house’ mcid=’K000378′ ] told about 40 Rockford-area manufacturers at a roundtable discussion Thursday at SPX Hydraulic Technologies in Rockford. The discussion was sponsored by the Illinois Manufacturers’ Association.
“I’m a fierce warrior for the Ex-Im Bank. It’s not just Boeing and GE that benefit from it, although they do benefit from it, it is the smaller manufacturers. This is essential for us to press ahead” to get it reauthorized in Congress, Kinzinger said.
In actuality as Adam Andrzejewski and Open the Books have discovered the Ex-Im Bank actually gives half of all of its money, backed by the American taxpayers, to Boeing and General Electric. Open The Books has also found that the Ex-Im Bank was financing transaction that were ineligible.
The Ex-Im Bank is a New Deal era relic of cronyism, that is spending more money than ever before, whose time has long since come. When your shuffling money around, at the taxpayers ultimate expense, to the state owned oil company in Mexico, and to two of the US’s largest corporations, you know something isn’t right.
Kinzinger can talk about looking out for small business manufacturers all he wants at the end of the day the Export-Import bank isn’t the way to do it, but it is the way the US Chamber of Commerce wants to do it, it’s want [mc_name name=’Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’K000360′ ] wants, as well as the rest of the Republican parties establishment so that’s what Adam Kinzinger’s going to do, because they matter more than facts, the evidence, and the will of the people in the district do.
