On Monday Illinois Republican congressman [mc_name name=’Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL)’ chamber=’house’ mcid=’K000378′ ], an Iraq war veteran and pilot in the Air National Guard, was on 1440 WROK’s morning show and attacked all libertarians and the libertarian philosophy as being ” at 100 percent odds with the idea of defending the country” following Kentucky Senator and GOP presidential candidate Rand Paul’s successful efforts to get the National Security Agencies bulk collection of Americans phone records stopped.
Kinzinger, who has a history of attacking Rand Paul(and [mc_name name=’Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’C001098′ ]), is a supporter of the NSA data collection program and wants it to continue.
In his Monday interview Kinzinger said, “We need to reach out and welcome Libertarians to our party, we have to be very careful to get that we’re not giving up our core principles that Reagan talked about frankly, in order to try to assuage a few people like Rand Paul and [mc_name name=’Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI)’ chamber=’house’ mcid=’A000367′ ].”
Paul has launched a 12 hour filibuster and objected in every way he could to Senate majority leader [mc_name name=’Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’M000355′ ]’s efforts to get the NSA’s bulk data collection, some call it spying, program renewed under provisions of the Patriot Act. Paul’s stubbornness resulted in the NSA program shutting down Sunday, and effectively forced McConnell to agree to the House passed USA Freedom Act, which addresses many of [mc_name name=’Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’P000603′ ]’s concerns about the NSA programs violations of the 4th amendment. The Freedom Act, which the Senate approved Tuesday, requires the government to get a warrant to search telephone record metadata. Kinzinger also voted for the USA Freedom Act.
Hearing a Bush supporter like Kinzinger talk about Ronald Reagan and use words like principles is infuriating. But we shouldn’t expect anything less from an amnesty supporting establishment Republican who always goes along with Speaker [mc_name name=’Rep. John Boehner (R-OH)’ chamber=’house’ mcid=’B000589′ ] and has a well documented history of attacking the Tea Party, conservatives, Rand Paul, and [mc_name name=’Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’C001098′ ].
