The United States Constitution makes most things pretty clear, it’s just people looking for loopholes that muck everything up. They redefine certain words or ignore others and then call their way of doing things “Constitutional”, even when to most that way is clearly not.
The full text of the First Amendment;
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Just sit back and read the above again. Where in that block of text is a High School football team prohibited from praying before a game? Nowhere. In fact, to deny them appears to me to be unconstitutional in itself, but yet we hear about ACLU legal actions all the time suing this school district or that because of that very thing.
Read it again. Where in that text does it say “It’s okay to contribute to these politicians over here or to create ads in their favor, but not that group over there! Those guys are evil because we say so, and if you aid them and don’t follow this list of rules, you’ll go to jail, pal!” I don’t see that in the text either, but apparently the Democrat Party does.
It amounts to speech licenses being handed out by Congress to whomever agrees with them.
Check out Mark Levin’s take on it here, and listen to the clip, even if you don’t like Levin. He interviews Cleta Mitchell, an expert on the First Amendment who wrote on the NRA getting an exemption from the so-called “Disclosure Act” (funny name for something created behind closed doors).
Mike Castle (R-DE), is supposedly a Republican, but doesn’t even deserve the RINO label. He’s actually an undercover Democrat, I’m convinced. He was one of only two Republicans voting in favor of passing Disclosure in the House on Thursday, the other being Cao of Louisiana. Castle has a long history of voting with Pelosi and his friend on the left side of the aisle, and on this issue it looked like he may waffle, but ended up voting against the people and for statism yet again.
And it’s all about November. It doesn’t matter that this will hopefully eventually be overturned, as long as it helps Democrats gain political advantage in November 2010.
Mike Castle should be stripped of any committee memberships, given a closet for an office, and cut off from GOP funding.
