Testing the “If Feinstein Was a Republican” headline
So California Sen. Dianne Feinstein, who wants a big push on “Alternative Energy”, more specifically “new renewable and energy efficient technologies“, but can’t agree that the Mojave Desert which “receives up to twice the sunlight received in other regions of the country” would be a good place to start?
What is the reason for her apparent hesitation? She saw the light and realized that solar isn’t really energy efficient? No, practicality seldom enters into her thinking processes.
It’s because solar electrical generation is ugly and tortoises will hit their heads.
The California Wildlands Conservancy, a group which usually through private funds goes around purchasing land to prevent its use by anyone but critters and people with Birkenstocks, orchestrated government purchase of land areas in the Mojave starting in 1999.
Since then nineteen companies have applied to start construction of solar and wind generation facilities on the 500,000 acres, which seemingly would create thousands to “Green” jobs that Feinstein and Obama would both love, but sadly;
David Myers, the conservancy’s executive director, said the solar projects would do great harm to the region’s desert tortoise population.
“It would destroy the entire Mojave Desert ecosystem,” said David Myers, executive director of The Wildlands Conservancy.
Note; not cause harm, but destroy the entire “Mojave Desert Ecosystem”. Not an absolutist “fearmongerer” at all, this guy.
Who is the California Wildlands Conservancy? Well from their website just for flavor;
The Wildlands Conservancy, in its own way, joins the struggle with people around the globe to preserve the fountain of this transcendence – the natural world. By opening our preserves to the public, and especially through our programs for children, we trust that people will hear from stars and streams and voices more eloquent than our own.
Hear the tinkling of bells as you read the above? It’s normal, don’t be alarmed.
Feinstein goes on to request of Interior Secretary Ken Salazar by letter;
“This is unacceptable, I urge you to direct the BLM to suspend any further consideration of leases to develop former railroad lands for renewable energy or for any other purpose.”
Further, she intends to push legislation, no doubt easily passed, to turn the land into a national monument, which would allow for existing uses to continue while preventing future development.
Never Again in My Backyard!
So much for clean energy, eh Mizzz Feinstein?
Even RINO Arnold is upset;
In a speech last year, Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger complained about environmental concerns slowing down the approval of solar plants in California.
“If we cannot put solar power plants in the Mojave Desert, I don’t know where the hell we can put it,” Schwarzenegger said at Yale University.
Answer Arnold; no place, nowhere, no how. There will always be a lizard, frog, shrimp, tortoise popping up to block anything anyone tries anywhere in California. You married a lib, wedded your administration to a liberal agenda, and now we get to eat popcorn while watching the energy libs get blocked by the turtle libs, and you flex your muscles and call them all “Girly Men”.
