Sinking Ship

If the primary elections have taught us anything thus far, it’s that the American people are angry at Washington political insiders. So far, three incumbents have lost their bids for re-election. Interestingly, all three were members of an appropriations committee.

I believe the people are telling Washington insiders that they want representatives in Washington who will deal with federal spending in a responsible manner.

More Americans than ever before are getting involved in the political process – and that’s a good thing. They are paying attention to what is going on in Washington, and they are expressing their dissatisfaction. Federal spending is rising from about 21 percent to 25 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP). That’s a huge increase. The national debt is expected to double as a percentage of the GDP within a decade, and that is unacceptable.

In the past, most voter unhappiness was focused on taxes, but now much of the discontent is focused on out of control spending. With each new pie in the sky spending scheme by Democrats, such as the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) or the stimulus, budget and health care bills, people are demanding that the government stop spending money we don’t have!

This is exactly why we need to send business people to Congress now more than ever. As a businessman, I know how to budget efficiently, meet a payroll and most importantly stop spending money that’s not there. I need your help and your vote, so I can get to Washington, apply my business skills, and help save this sinking ship!
