Your Message Incites Violence - Call Off The Thugs, Trump

Two brothers were arrested in South Boston last week after allegedly beating a homeless Hispanic man. Because, Trump.  Scott and Steve Leader face multiple charges over the incident which , according to one of the brothers, was done because “Donald Trump was right, all these illegals need to be deported.”  Understand, the Leader brothers were well known among law enforcement prior to this latest matter.  The Boston Globe notes both have extensive criminal records .  That is the very brief background.

Now here, one could argue the men were just looking for an excuse, any excuse, to get into more trouble and candidate Trump was handy.  After all the brothers do have a bit of past history when it comes to trouble.  Or, one could suggest that the matter of illegal immigration is flaming on all sides right now and it would not be unusual to find some people who were overzealous in their beliefs and illegally took matters in their own hands.

But, I’ll let you argue those points. My concern is candidate Trump’s response:

“It would be a shame . . . I will say that people who are following me are very passionate. They love this country and they want this country to be great again. They are passionate.”

Passionate is one word for it.  But perhaps a little rebuking would be in order here. I consider myself to be very passionate on the matter of illegal immigration. I loved the paper candidate Trump put out with help from [mc_name name=’Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’S001141′ ]. It covered most everything that is problematic when there are too many people that are untraceable and the inherent problems that come with such a large number of shadow people. But while I agree there is a serious problem, no one should condone violence in this matter.  And while Trump may or may not be to blame as the cause of the beating his response could have included a few words of admonishment. At the very least a call for his more “passionate” followers to calm down would have been a nice gesture.  He could have used it as a clarion call to say “Hey, nowhere in my platform does it suggest violence against this group.  We will handle the matter legally and legislatively if I get in office” or thrown out some other similar meat to the masses. Say something that will nip this type of behavior in the bud early.

Obviously there was violence against illegal immigrants before Trump jumped into the race. And whether his words are making the matters worse or if he is just being used as an excuse at this point in history remains to be seen. But he could say something to discourage these type of actions.

Oh, who am I kidding?  This is Trump.
