Yes, I am going to talk about the President’s vacation.

You might be surprised though, I’m not really going to criticize the President taking a vacation. The truth is this is a topic both parties use as a weapon. When Reagan and Bush( both of them) where in office the left condemned their vacations. When Clinton went on vacation the right would disapprove, not so much for his time on vacation but where he would vacation. Now, it’s President Obama’s turn.

It is true, a President is never truly on vacation. Wherever he goes the job follows more so than any other job on the planet. However, as with everything in politics, the optics matter. Reagan and Bush (both of them) went to their homes. It did not matter to the left that President George W Bush, conducted business with foreign leaders at his ranch nor did they( and still don’t) care that his ranch was literally transformed into a “southern White House.”

He was on vacation, bad G.W, bad boy.

Let us go back to Bush 41 shall we?

His success in Iraq was irrelevant. It did not matter he was vacationing at his home in Kennebunkport. What mattered was the economy was beginning a downturn, the price of gas was going up and what was the President doing? He was fishing!!

The way the press and the left reacted you would have thought he committed a war crime.

They kept saying how out of touch he was for using a power boat to go fishing. While “regular American’s” were under pressure to fill up their gas tanks, the President was spending money on gas for his power boat. The press lamented how out of touch he was for doing such a thing as “regular Americans” were struggling.

With that in mind, looking at the mainstream media’s coverage of President Obama’s vacation in Martha’s Vineyards, you realise the argument should not be about whether the President should be on vacation, but rather where he is vacationing. Most know Martha’s Vineyard is a wealthy community, do they know how wealthy? From Wikipedia:

The island is primarily known as a summer colony, and is accessible only by boat and by air. Nevertheless, its year-round population has grown considerably since the 1960s. A study by the Martha’s Vineyard Commission found that the cost of living on the island is 60 percent higher than the national average and housing prices are 96 percent higher.

Do I have to mention the hypocrisy of the left and the media who defend this vacation?

Personally, I like it when the President is on vacation.

It means I do not have to listen to him speak and he deserves a vacation.

It’s hard work blaming others.
